Remember, at one time there were no plants on land, only fungi. Plants evolved at the permission of and only to serve fungi.

Thats not the only thing it does, it also can connect entire forrests. Lets say, one tree is sick, and will die. Said tree will put most of its nutrients in roots and fungi. The fungi will give this to other trees and try to stop sickness.

They can also choose to feed their “offspring” over another tree type. Example I was taught is a maple surrounded by saplings it would feed the maple saplings over an oak, prioritizing its offspring’s nutrition first

It should be noted that this video is visually describing Arbuscular mycorrhizae & their Common mycelial networks or CMNs. But there are also Arbutoid Mycorrhizae, Ericoid Mycorrhizae, Monotropoid mycorrhizae, Orchidaceous mycorrhizae, Ectomycorrhiza, Ectendomycorrhizae, fine root endophytes & dark septate endophytes. Each with their own unique niches/physiologies, life habits and from a wide array of fungal phyla. Likewise there are other fungi in the rhizosphere ( root zone) to consider, such as yeast, pathogenic fungi & mycoparasitic fungi ( fungi that eat other fungi, such as Trichoderma species). CMNs are not strictly positive however, these Symbiosis come at a cost of carbon in the form of photosynthate from the plant ( except in the case of monotropoids & orchidaceous as these fungi are parasatized by monotrop & orchid plants) & the root zone is a highly competitive environment. The composition of symbiotic fungi is selected for by the plant and will often change fungal partners as conditions for their growth does. Just like any system of relationships there are also cheaters & fungi are no exception. ( If interested look up Game theory models of mycorrhizal relationships) So it is most accurate to say that mycorrhizae economize the soil, and that this symbiosis sits on a wide spectrum between the poles of mutualism & parasatism.

Thank you for the information. I remember freshman year my Bio Prof wouldn't allow me to do a project on mychrrhizal fungi because there was not enough research out there...... yet
@ianutube229 ай бұрын
In practice I'm researching this subject because of my internal debate on how to prep, sow and weed control my crops. Leave grass, plow narrow slots for new seed and let grow together then chop or lightly cultivate the surface. Or just rely on winter crop root development to deposit enough nutrients, terminate it, and till and build rows and control weeds, grass, alphalfa etc that competes for root space. I prefer to not till and leave as much of the root systems intact all year long tbh and go with the former over the latter.

And you can feed the fungi by dropping seeds and fruits on the soil, and covering them with carbon/leaves like trees do.

Does this only happen with certain trees and root systems or can this benefit most types. I'm amazed by this, I really want to know more. I came here after a podcast on Joe Roqan featuring Graham Hancock... They were talking about the soil types of the Amazon. A very bright individual passed on his knowledge to us in the comments and so I thought I need to know more. Thanks.

All plants. It benefits perennials more because they live longer but annual plants also form relationships with fungi.

so, after a two-year comparison of not using myco and then using myco - non myco plants were the usual size. The myco induced plants were 3 times the size and production was quadrupled but with those myco induced plants I had to tend to other things like botrytis which I may link to myco inoculation because it was never ever a problem until the myco grow, but that's one grow it could be just coincidence

The visual of your tree has the trunk flare / root crown under the soil. This is incorrect as the root crown should be at grade. One never sees forest trees planted too deep whether they are planted or self-seeded. Please correct your visual as this is one of the major reasons for early tree decline and death in the urban environment.

Yes, You can use as basal, if you are sowing wheat by using seed drill you can directly use Mycorrhizal granules in seed drill, If you miss both you can broadcast with first top dressing of Urea or at first irrigation after germination.
