If Remarkable does not have the resources to improve the software, they should open source the OS and let the community do it.

My take on the battery life issue is that every tech device company exaggerates the battery life of their products. This should not be Earth shattering news. I use my electronic devices until they are low on juice, then I charge them up. I don’t fret whether I charge my devices twice a day, twice a week or twice a month. On the other hand, the claim of being able to store 100K pages with just 6.4 GB of storage is not just a gross over exaggeration, it is down right unethical marketing. The reMarkable company would do well to fire a few marketing people and replace them with more software engineers. Thank you for doing real world testing of the products you review. It’s good to have a reviewer that tells it like it is.

Thank you for taking the time to dissect every part of this MAGNIFICENT DEVICE. . It's obvious that you truly love this device and took the time to test out every feature. Thank you for not letting your enthusiasm for the device take away from your open criticisms. I totally agree that it is lacking in the software department, but I am eager to give the company a chance to provide those updates as the hardware is AMAZING. The writing capabilities and everything the device stands for still holds true! The minimalism and distraction free. I will impatiently wait for my Remarkable 2 in the mail. Thank you SO MUCH for this long awaited analysis and unbiased review!!! :)

So, I provided feedback through their ‘Wishes & Ideas’ page. Basically, I wrote that they need to view your channel for this series of videos for enhancement ideas 🤓 And having now looked at other reviews, either on KZbin or on websites, they are the usual high level nothing. This is the one and only channel to come to for reMarkable and other similar devices! Thank you, and really appreciate your time and massive amount of effort you put into these vids. Hey, @remarkable people! Listen to this man! That said, I'm one of those who are looking first and foremost for a handwriting note-taking digital device. And all I've seen in these videos confirms that this is the perfect device for people like me. None of the cons are serious enough from that point of view, and there aren't serious competitors either. So, can't wait to get mine and start enjoying it. Thank you for the reviews!

A stunning review sir ! The ability you have to describe the product in an articulate and humorous manner is outstanding. Being a self confessed techy and electronics engineer by trade I tend to watch a lot of tech reviews. Your review of this product is hands down the best review available. So many reviews are just verbal accounts of the datasheet - your emotional dimension to the product makes for very compelling viewing. An excellent account of the product - I hope they pay attention and address the issues !

Thanks so much for a great series of reviews that really covered the pluses (and minuses) of the new hardware and the existing software. I've now ordered my reMarkable 2 and am impatiently waiting for November (or later?). However, at least I've got the chance to go back and watch some of your earlier videos now too. I really appreciate the depth of your coverage and the thoughtfulness of the feedback. It gave me a much better feel for the product than anything else I've seen - including reMarkable's own website. And the fact that it is obviously based on your experience with the original reMarkable tablet helps give more perspective too. It felt like real world experience, which is the most valuable thing of all. Great video quality too - very professional.

Thanks for making these videos. You don’t throw any punches. Biggest one I really wish was a real landscape mode to scroll down a portrait document. Thanks to you I bought the rm1 as a graduate going back to school. After the honeymoon period I find that the device is awesome way to keep all my notes organized in one place. So my class notes and my professor handouts are put in same folder. The ability to look over my professor note on singly linked list then flip over to blank notebook to sketch out my own implementation is awesome on the go. Then I can go to my computer type into program and reference rm1 is powerful combo. I now no longer have loose leaf paper all over the place and yet can access my notes in the phone. What also killing me is the ability to flip back and forth between document and within a document. Great review and appreciate the time and effort you put into these reviews.

Watched all the vids on 1.75x speed. Thanks for all the work you did to create this series. You have me excited about my RM2 preorder. A couple of thoughts: Another reason to only have one device per account = Subscription fee coming later? Possibly. Same with other software limitations might be for a similar reason. Other hardware limitations, I would guess a "Pro" hardware version with more battery and storage. My conjecture is that a $15m series A investment would come with business decisions that aim a company toward decisions that seem off, but leave room for making more $ off the same audience as part of the invest/grow/exit process VC's use.

Instead of charging users for basic functions with their new Connect program, Remarkables should be paying you for these videos and promoting them which would likely increase sales without making their customers angry. Dear remarkable, if this device is suppoed to "help me think", then why can't I properly use it as a reader and take notes along documents? I don't know about you, but for me (most people?), "thinking" in my job means either (a) reflecting and planning by taking notes, or (b) attentively reading and annotating all kinds of documents. Both are equal parts of the modern work environment, so this device just doesn't meet the need I have.

The Remarkable team NEEDS to watch these reviews and take them to heart. I just ordered mine yesterday and didn’t know how many UX breaking issues there were with the device before watching these reviews. If they can get out of their own way then this can truly be a remarkable device. It seems that most of the issues can be solved with future OS updates so that’s a good sign. Thank you so much for the 4-part review. It was insightful and got me motivated to delve into my Remarkable 2, but it also got me thinking about where it could be improved. Before I watched part four, I was thinking that the biggest problems were software problems and was not surprised how much you emphasized that. I agree with everything you said. Here is my contribution: I often do illustration, and it often involves laying down a layer of graphite over the page to produce a dark surface, and then using the eraser to lighten or whiten the surface. The pencil tool allows us to do step one, but, as far as I can tell, any tool that allows "lightening," (the pen tool in white mode or the eraser tool) lays down white. I would think that a tool like the Remarkable has a big market among illustrators, and that a big part of its appeal is that it steers all of users from having to adopt a different approach to doing what we do. Writing/drawing on the Remarkable 2 is an amazing experience, but these limitations, like having the eraser mean total destruction without it allowing lightening, denies us that option.

First of all, you've done an outstanding review for reMarkable. Thank you very much indeed. 6:26 Connectivity, is pissing me off, that's really a problem for me. I can't accept this primitive software solutions of managing resources via USB cables or devices or even local networks. Cloud services are not a solution, but a trap for the future and I have no intention of going in that direction. I'm writing this is in 2023, three years after this review and nothing really have been done towards effective software improvements and solutions. Lamentably, instead of fixing the major issues, the reMarkable team opted to improve marketing instead. What a pity.

Thank you for this series. I didn’t find it until I had my rM2 in my hands and I think the cons for the reader might have scared me off; you can always leave the distracting apps off an iPad or put it in “do not disturb.” However, I did get it as a note taking device and have loved it for the few weeks I’ve had it. My only hassle has been wanting to use pdf’s as checklists. Since they can’t be sent to the device and used as a template I ended up making my own version in a notebook specifically for this, then export a copy of the page to the notebook I want it in, adding a layer for all my writing and checking off. I think this is a work-around that makes sense to me, but you are so right that I shouldn’t have to come up with a work-around. I look forward to your future videos!

Research, students and professionals we need to be able to search highlights, also split screen so we have text or mind map up top and our thoughts on the bottom. The landscape stuff is needed too. Hey AGILE PM at R2 wee bit more innovation for us avid users. I know all things have to be deployed bare as I work in this sector but if you spoon feed us what this lacks (regularly) we will be very loyal. 💕

Buying this for note taking and replacing note books and sketching UI skeletons and user flows. The fact that the notes aren't searchable seems like a deal breaker to me. Why would I spend 400e on a device if Its just easier to flip through paper pages to find my notes? 🤷‍♂️ I want this product to be great but looks like their missing the core value of their product and ignoring the user experience. Thank you, Voja, for your exquisitely detailed, funny and very user-friendly unbiased reviews. They are helping me a lot with my decision to stick with my order in batch 8 or to cancel it. If reMarkable don‘t up their software game towards a complex reader with good pdf and ePub functionality along your suggestions by the end of the year, then I will have to cancel despite the beautiful design and the fantastic handwriting. I need split screen, a horizontal layout for pdfs and particularly a seamless zooming into and scrolling ability of pdfs. I need individual contrast regulation and I certainly need searchable handwritten notes. I would love to have coloured highlighters, though I can live without them. Please, reMarkable, do listen to us, your buyers and users. And please, Voja, do give yourself an ample and well-deserved rest. Generally speaking, for production related work, where you need to actually use the notes you make, i find that the Supernote has functionality that's far superior to the Remarkable platform.

Amazing series of videos. Congrats from Spain. I support 100% all your suggestions. It is a pitty that so amazing piece of hardware has so much limitations for professionals (usb connection is a must, in my company all the computers are locked to workers, and clouds are forbbiden) or students (reader, taking notes, etc is a must) buyers. If they don't realised soon pf this big cons somene else is going to make another similar device and they are foing to miss the opportunity. I liked a lot, but the cons are very important fpr me, so I am going to wait to other device or version.

Honestly companies would pay to have someone that would point out all their short comings and how to address them and implement them (I was pretty impressed by the easy solution you offered to make the device left handed friendly, fsr I couldn't see that all you needed to do was rotate the thing 180°), especially finding someone as dedicated as you, and here you are offering it for free. Hope they listen cause some of these features (bookmars, highlights, portrait mode, etc) are so basic that it's almost a joke that you have to tell them to implement them. There's only two things you can do on this product read and write and they somehow got one of them wrong, which is a pity since the other looks like it's leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. That being said I'm pretty exited for mine, since tbh I mostly bought it to write on and only to read short documents like papers and not long documents like books, but still that's no excuse to half ass such an important aspect of the product.

Very much enjoy your reviews which ultimately persuaded me to purchase reMarkable 2. The basic functionality for me as a writer is excellent - I hand-write my script but found the typing -up to be onerous. The conversion facility tipped the scales for me BUT how frustrating that the converted (and edited) text cannot be saved directly. I have a couple of cases of losing the entire converted document due to email issues. I hope they introduce a save function for converted text soon!!

Thank you for this great review! I was thinking about getting Remarkable 2 for reading and marking up screenplays. I'm a screenwriter. But your review cleared up a lot of questions I had and now I see it's far from ready to do that really well. Thank you for saving me money, time, and pain. Thank you for putting in the work, I know what you're doing takes a lot of effort. 👍🏻

@@j2thezla I've found nothing so far really, I'm also doing it on the iPad. It would be great to have some device with ePaper that can do good pdf annotation and has a "paper" size of more or less 1:1 letter format

Thank you for a very informative and thorough review. I am mainly looking for a digital notebook and this made me even more confident in my pre-order. Another thing I would like in the software (If it's not already there) is the ability to add size-adjustable geometrical shapes to the notes. I use boxes a lot when writing notes, it would have been great not to have notes full of crooked and ugly squares xD I'm Looking forward to more great remarkable 2 stuff on ur channel :)

Hello! thank you for the fantastic work you have done on these reviews. it is the first remarkable that I buy and I did not understand very well the question of space and how the cloud works, I would use it to take notes at the university, I can transfer files freely to the Cloud to free up space and have them available when I need them by downloading them ?

Superb review videos, thank you so much for all your efforts making them and doing them so thoroughly. I am delighted that I'm in batch 2, none of the cons are even close to being deal breakers for me. I am left wondering if the Remarkable team is holding back a major upgrade in the software until they can ramp up production, just to avoid being overwhelmed by what might become a massive demand level for this amazing device.

Thank you very much for this 4 video, they are great, YOU are grate. Best review ever! I pre-order the RM2 and I'm in the batch 8, so I have to wait November. Lessons at university starts 21 September, I'm going to use it just for taking notes and I really hope that 7500 pages are enough for 6 months of lessons... I would love tu use it for reading too but I think I'm not going to use it if the RM team won't change something. I really hope that they will have a look at your videos and start working on this little (and not so little) problems, this device has a super high potential but right now it's using maybe 60% of it and it's so upsetting. Let's hope for a better product in the near future. P.s. I think you should use your Instagram a bit more, just tu grow up on the other social ;)

Thank you for this long review - I watched your first videos on remarkable back three years ago while waiting for mine to ship, and now I'm doing this for the remakable 2 while, again, waiting for mine :) I fully agree with you that the weak spot is in the software. There have been some important upgrades in the last three years, so it seems possible that all hope is not lost. What I'd like to know is if I´ll still be able to use some of the third party software that are out there with the new remarkable. I'm a Linux user, and the fully supported software by remarkable is only targeting Windows and MacOS.

Thank you for your remarkable work doing this review! It is extremelly thorough. I was going to invest in this device but I saw that the functions I am really interested in (zoom in the PDF reader not amazing, cannot add note pages between PDF's pages, etc.) are lacking perfection compared to maybe other devices. I really hope that the developers will take into consideration your advices to upgrade their next reMarkable. Meanwhile, I'll go check your other reviews and try to find something that really fits my needs at the moment. Thanks again!
