Myers 2.5 HP water pump tear down (Irrigation water pump disassembly for Myers is same as AO Smith)

This is the disassembly video for the Myers/AO Smith water pump. Seems similar to most water pumps. The bearing farthest from the impeller is the one that typically goes out because it is smaller and not next to the fan (for more information check out my other video I posted about this)

Great video. I wish I had found this yesterday. I had to replace what I thought was a siezed pump (lot of iron in the water), but now I see it could have been corrosion, a bad starter or bad bearings :-\

It almost always is bad bearings. I have done this tear down a lot. All the parts are inexpensive. Especially the bearings.

Good morning, any ideas on how to to fix the cast iron part of the pump?

Are you asking about the housing end of it with the four bolt holes in it?

I had one crack on me before and they had extras available at my irrigation supply store.

That part should be cheap. Literally these pumps are all simply different brand labels but a lot of the parts are interchangeable. I literally pulled one out of the earth that had been sitting in weather and mud for last 20 years and got it going again. The only expense part is the core. If you mess that up it’s basically the cost of a new pump. Go to your closest irrigation supply store with your old part, don’t sound desperate, and you should get out the door for under $20. It’s irregular that your part broke because it’s usually only the bearings and start capacitor... but none the less, that part shouldn’t be expensive because they should have one floating around the back some where taking up space.
