Freetown Christiania, also known as Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania or Staden), is an intentional community and commune in the Christianshavn neighborhood of the Danish capital city of Copenhagen, Christinia, Christianshavn, Copenhagen K, Island of Amager. It began in 1971 as a squatted military base. Its Pusher Street is famous for its open trade of cannabis, which is illegal in Denmark.

When I was there nearly a year ago you were allowed to take photos basically everywhere exept in the pusher street where the weed is sold (fairly cheap in comparison to the whole of europe). But I have to say that we were in company of a guide of Christiania. So if you film alone by yourself it might be different.

There is many rules and laws in there, like no running, and no cars. You cant rely on tourist infos from yt footage lol. And yes you cant film on pusher street, because there is obv dealers there, which is not interested in getting recorded for obv reasons. The rest you can film as much as you want. Christiania for most Danes is like a village park you can come and relax with less of a big city vibe. Many come after work to grab a beer and a little one, and just enjoy free time. There is also some decent restaraunts and cafes in there, a woman blackmith and some funky small shops.

@@MichaelNoon nothing really serious. I thought the place was extremely underwhelming and nothing special. It had a bad smell the graffiti and art work was mediocre to be honest and I got a really bad vibe when walking through pusher street, like I did not belong there at all… and yes I respected their “rules”. Unless you don’t have nothing special to do, I would not waste my time going here. It’s very underwhelming. Been to be alternative places in Brazil, Germany etc.

well if you had done some reasearch you would know that the real chris freetown did disapear for at least 5 years ago! that place was undisturbed from police and politticans over 35 years but after they changed what police can do and not do and that killed the free town all gardens is gone and the wounderful decorative park is gone when the goverment got acces to the area again it got grey like all other places.

Thank you for filming this. I lived in Copenhagen for 8 months in 2012! I was wondering how much Christiania has changed. I never remember dealing with police EVER, as I would leave frequently with hash. But it did get raided all the time but it seemed as they weren’t concerned with consumers 🤷‍♂️

Hej. They asked you to not film or take pictures on the pusher Street. Why can‘t you respect that? You could have filmed everything else in Christiania. It‘s just the pusher street (a space of maybe 200x200m) where they ask for a little bit of privacy. Everything else is free to be filmed or taken fotos of, even the private areas.

@@mixchief Nah, that assumption isnt entirely wrong. Younger generations and more left-leaning people in general wont care about you smoking weed at all. I dont smoke myself, but I view it as perfectly normal. its not as normalised as alcohol, but it is certainly moving in that direction. The real reason for the no filming rule is that the drug dealers on pusherstreet are criminals and gang affiliated. Filming them is basically putting them at risk and therefore they may react violently if they catch you filming. Other people in the area will ask you not to film simply because they dont want the drama if you get caught.. basically for your own safety.

Actually the only place in Christiania you're not allowed to filmin is the pusher street, every where else is fine to film :) is also not true that theres no rules or laws, the community makes their own laws. for eksemple weed is allowed but they do not allowed other hard drugs. Its also very important to note that the people selling drugs are NOT people from Christiania. The citizens have tried numorous times to get rid of pusher street, with no luck. The Christianits are very peacful people and really what they want is for weed to be legalized, so pusher street can be gone.
