Small suggestion: tape or wire the handle of that new through-hull ball valve back onto the fitting to ensure that no accidental knock can open it. Suggest replacing it with a permanant one with a double-lock on the valve handle. Nightmare waiting to happen as is.

Congratulations on the launch! Frankly, I did not think this boat would be even close to being launched this season, no less at the beginning of May - and she runs and floats - EXCELLENT JOB!!! Now please, please, please remove those tattered burgees (flags if you're a landlubber) from the "Masthead" (the piece of wood holding the anchor and forward nav lights) and keep these videos coming. There are still a ton of things to be done and we can't wait to watch you do them!
@RuneLar2 жыл бұрын
I started watching these videos last night, and I love this series. And its because its so realistic. Too many project KZbin channels show things way over the top, which is fine, I like those too. But your temporary fixes are a breath of fresh air. Also, your channel is the first one that hasn't made me think that I could be a master welder if I just bought the equipment, which means you are the realest. Thank you.

The lever is for raising the anchor, to let the anchor down release/un screw the large locking wing nut by the side of the gypsy (chain carrier). Hope that helps and best of luck with the rest of the refit.
@toomanyaccounts3 жыл бұрын
guess every anchor mechanism maker did their own thing because I swear there are lever systems to lower the anchor slowly. then another system to drop the entire chain into the ocean if the boat needs to get away and the anchor is stuck.
@WileyFox013 жыл бұрын
@@toomanyaccounts To control the speed of lowering you alter the amount of pressure applied by the wing nut. Your anchor chain (In normal installation) is spliced to rode and attached in the anchor locker, should you need to let the anchor go you can release the gypsy and cut the rode.
@toomanyaccounts3 жыл бұрын
@@WileyFox01 like I said different makers. different sized boats have different systems some with multiple levers and clutches that do those functions. some boat owners want a anchor system that they don't have to pull up or let down by hand.
@WileyFox013 жыл бұрын
@@toomanyaccounts Yes I agree that some boat owners want or have have different windlasses but in this instance they have a manual windlass, hopefully they can now use it as intended.

All you had to do was to loosen the cable, set the rudder to centre, then refit the chain with the wheel centered and both ends the same length. You can do that in the water though. There should be a mark on the top of the rudder post for dead ahead . All the best;

Great effort, i am also fixing an old yacht, but i have not enough time to make a blog about every repair. One thing i would recommend is use 2c paint system and apply much more layers under the waterline on blanked steel if you fix it right it will not rust for 10 years or so. I wish you all the best and will keep following your channel

Good job but as far as rust is concerned on a steel boat. Don’t take short cuts whatever you do. As for antifoul don’t skimp on that either. Even antifoul your prop it will foul up in no time. I hope it all goes well for you. Safe boating 👍🇦🇺
@1Jurbo3 жыл бұрын
The handle you found should be hollow to fit on the friction release cross. On the RH side (chain side) you will find the friction release you need to “release” the friction of the chain drum to drop the anchor. Do it slow to control the speed of the anchor dropping. As you found out the other side is the anchor raise hoist.

Have the same type of anchor system. Turn the 3 pins on the starboard side anticlockwise (towards the bow) and that will loosen the "brake" the chain should flow through on its own. If stiff, dump a load of wd40 and leave over night. Tighten a fraction then try loosening it up the next day.
