As Mr. Crispin recently said "I need a milling machine and lathe, to make parts for my milling machine and lathe". Nicely crafted, as usual. I do like seeing side milling cutters used on horizontal type setups. It just seems like a more rigid arrangement, much less tool deflection. Plus the bonus that the cutters are so simple to sharpen.

Thnks. The fact that I have a bunch of these cutters as a result of an acution buy sometimes makes me feel bad when I stumble across them.. I mean they do not get much used. Agree, this is a rigid setup. However, for my use it didn't matter much on this very simple, small job, but it was a chance to try/show..

On the Super 7 i just made a bush where you fit the ball race. The thrust is adjustable from behind. I thought about the thrust mod , but do not use the lathe that much. Steve.

I guess that also works/is sufficient. In fact, think the original design functions OK enough as well :) A fun, small project anyway

Is this based on the George H Thomas design for the super 7? Arboga mill? Same as mine 😁

It has inspiration from what is published on the ArcEuroTrade site, but I just used what I had available which was suitable and adjusted to that. Therefore the sleeve. Yes, the Arboga drill press is nice to have. PS! This is the drill press only version.. floor standing and only fitted with an MT3 taper for drill chucks. We have the mill/drill version where I work and this has their locking system to adopt milling cutters as well. As you know, this has a beefed up column, and a better, more rigid XY-table setup.. but not the table-spindle envelope as on the drill press variant.
