It´s because he´s lipsyncing, it´s not live singing. I´ve been listening Tony Christie for years and this is the original studio track from 1971, when Tony was 28 ( born 1943).

Tony Christie is one of the very few singers with inimitable singing voices with such vocal range that's truly God-given. Watching this clip, an 80 year old crooner able to whip the crowd into a dance party without back up singers, no special effects! Unlike 90% of singers nowadays who rely voice synthesizers, major stage production, cgi etc...
