Please remember this is just some tips from my personal experiences with penpalling. I've tried to stick to the basics because I'm sure each person will find their own unique way of writing letters and sending snailmail. I wish you all the best with your snail mail journeys, it one of my favourite hobbies, because you also get to make friends!

Emily Yeh It's probs best not to start until you are completely comfortable with the idea. Maybe talk to your parents or friends about it and see what their opinions are? If you have any good online friends then you could talk to them about it and see if they wanted to write. But yeh, definitely make sure you are 100% comfortable with the idea before you start :) X

I think, because you still live with her, ultimately it's her address you'd be giving out to a penpal, so you do have to respect her wishes for now. But I don't think there's anything wrong with having a penpal at 13. You can take part in snailmail through websites which might be an option? Hi, I'm 26 from texas, if anyone wants to penpal with me. but I have a personal question. i was pen palling with a girl for around a year. we sent each other tons of letters, with little gifts like origami and washi samples. but even though i've sent her a letter every other month for past 6 months, she hasn't written me back. the last thing i sent her that she responded to was a few character sheets for my characters and i said if she wanted to draw them all, it would unlock the 'secret 4th character'. we also played a game where we made character designs of little monster pets based off our letters. anyway, I emailed her before sending the last one, asking if she 'still accepts letters.' which was a passive aggressive way of asking if she still engages in the hobby OR if she still wants to write me back. she said 'yes i still accept letters,' so I sent her a new one on special stationery I got at the Daiso japanese dollar store. my other pen pal usually has her response letters get back to me in 2 weeks, and I can tell she's still enthusiastic, but I'm afraid my original penpal has been alienated by me. is there a polite way to ask her if i hurt her feelings or ask if the relationship is over? or should I just stop sending her letters, now? i still wanted to be friends but i don't want to pressure her. but i also always felt like my letters were shitty. and maybe too personal? her letters would always be totally pleasant and small-talkish, but i would go more into my hopes and fears and i thought maybe i was over-sharing? or maybe i was offering too much advice to her and came across as judgmental. or, worse fear of all, maybe she thought i was a basic racist white person, which makes me hate myself to think about.. there was also a time i sent her a pack in january, and recently it got sent back to me, marked 'undeliverable: unclaimed'? i was a little short on postage. anyway, sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask about this kind of thing. clearly it wouldn't bother me so bad if i had more than one active penpal. I can't use instagram because my phone is too old. I am not very good at crafting and scrap booking and only know about illustration and fine art.

It often happened that penpal stop responding... Sometimes they just change their mind, or they didn't have enough time... It happens to me too, my penpal just stop answering me... I question myself, but I actually think my penpal just change her mind about pen palling :/... Anyway, don't pressure yourself :3

Postcards depending on weight and size still are usually pretty cheap worldwide. No more than. £1 I've found for postcards :)

***** I do postcrossing also, as Tasha said, it's no more than a £1 per postcard :)Obviouslt that's for a standard postcard size. if you find a massive fancy postcard to send then the price goes up because it is heavier. Pretty sure it has to be less than 10g in weight :) X

Where do you put the return address on the envelope?

Most places you put it on the back of the envelope. I think if you're sending to Canada they like it in the top left corner on the front. But really as long as it's on there somewhere and you have 'sender' next to your return address, it's better than not having it on there at all 😊

laurenhk19 If it's set up via a school then it will most likely be super safe, as far as knowing if you'll click with the person, don't be worried, they will most likely be of similar age to you and if you go in with an open mind, you never know you might become really good friends! :) X
