So much useful information, thanks. I hunted with a Savage 1899 way back in 1960 and was able to take a deer in upstate NY. The rifle was beautiful as a classic with curved butt plate. It had belonged to my grandfather. Fantastic rifle in 303 Savage, circa 1922.

Great video. One tip: be like Vana White when pointing to something- have your hands/arm off to one side. You smoother the spot with finger/shadow etc. Can't see jack.

If I was an CEO or high management for the Savage gun company in today's world, I would have the Savage gun company make these guns and make them popular again like Winchester has done with their model 70, or the Remington model 700 and Colt even brought back the Colt python etc..... And every thing I heard and read on the 303 British, its one of the best calibers out there. One of my great uncles had one. Just don't understand on how 303 lost its popularity ?

303 SAVAGE is a way different dog than 303 British. Up here in CANADA lots of 303 British ENFIELD'S still AROUND. Plus Parker Hale used the Enfield surplus rifle's as the base for many customs in 303 BRITISH. And the Northern Rangers had used the ENFIELD but Still use a new RIFLE BUT IT IS also BRIT 303. You can double check the last part in WIKI im sure i got it right.

Why is it your favorite? Is it the 303 cartridge or the 99. I'd really like to find a 99 RS 250 Savage. I've also read people are improving the 250 Savage chamber to a 25 creedmoor using 6.5 creedmoor brass neck down to 25. Still limited to 120 grain bullets because of the rifling twist. What do you think of this modification they say it gets quite a bit more velocity. I would be using it for Target fun plinking and deer hunting. I think the 250 Savage cartridge would also be fine but I know 65 creedmoor brass is very available too. I'd love to hear your opinion you seem very knowledgeable. Thank you

picked up 1899 250-3000 savage... actually looks old and great, stocks and barrel hasve not been refinished, can't find ammo but really would like to know more about this rifle... don't want to touch it till I know more...

I have a 300 Savage model 99 made in 1950. Looking for some 300 Savage brass. The modified 308 doesn’t sit in the breach the same as a 300 case does. Was wondering if you knew of anyone. I looked at Huntington diet specialties, and didn’t find anything.

There is ammo available. Its just expensive. I buy it online all the time.

They're very nice guns I've got that model but it shoots really nice and it's very deadly accurate but the thing is what he forgets to mention is you can buy the bullets for reloading in 303 for the Enfield and modify the cases from the 30-30 by case hardening the neck and the shoulder by expanding the neck but unfortunately when you expand the neck it now becomes paper-thin and the shoulder has to be by I believe a degree in order to fit inside the chamber I have done this before what I'm basically wildcatting a 30-30 case to accommodate a Lee-Enfield round a my reloads cost / ammunition is about $0.10 around and and each bullet weighs about 170 grains and it does have a flatter trajectory at about 200 yards and oh yes my Savage was built in about 1901 and it does yes have the brass ammunition counter on the left hand side I believe this rifle was a great design or as I call it the stud of the lever action rifle by Design and no I will not sell it because I believe this rifle from what I see am I collection I give it that condition from 1 to 10 pretty close to a 10 or is one would say at least 95% all there and yes I've had people off of me up to 1500 to $1,600 for this rifle but it will stay in my collection.

303 savage bullet is.308.303 British is .312.NOT interchangeable!!

I know what you are doing - you enjoy guns and enjoy working on them for fun. More power to you Sir. The rest of us can talk all we want but it is not that easy to make a video, yeah! Anyway, continue to have fun and make more videos. I know that with more experience your videos will continue to be interesting. Hey i know this is an old video, but can you or anyone here in the comments help me out here? I'm looking for info on one of these 1899s that has a Monte Carlo stock and a Bishop Butt Plate. Also a brass pin in the reciever, is that weird? My uncle just bought it from a friend and I'm just curious. I'm having trouble researching this. Any insight?

@@sonjadover2715 Maybe its a one off custom made for a HIGH END executive.That Monty Carlo stock would suggest a special order. You could check WIKI they have a good description for the 99 SAVAGE in their pages.

Also the spool in the rotary magazine is brass in many older 99S were is this brass pin LOCATED ?There is a loaded indicator pin that pops up on the top of the receiver but they are steel on all i have seen.

If a person were to find a savage in something like your 303 savage and wanted to change the caliber to something modern , like 308, would that be possible without re-barreling & would re-barrel be expensive ? If 308 was to much for the young lady , how about 243, or 7mm/08

A- I would only do it with a 1899 marked rifle. B- Although the receivers are the same, there is much changing to be done internally. It would be cheaper to look for a .308 model. C- Don't use a Take Down model

I think he needs a history lesson. WW1 was not started in 1941 but 1914 even WW2 didn't start in 1941 It started in 1939 Though the US didn't enter officially until Dec 7th 1941. Too late to have a bearing on rifles built that year.

This gun in 22 HP is an outstanding stalk hunting choice. My brother has our grandfather's in that caliber, and I have our grandfather's in .300 savage. Two bucks this 2022 season with that vintage rifle!

What do you mean the United States government never accepted a lever action rifle as a military arm. What about the Spencer carbine. What about the original Henry lever action. What about the sharps rifle it's a lever action breech loader. Calvary carbine and Infantry version both in paper and metallic cartridge versions.
