I am a physician based in United States and Nigeria secondary schools have been doing this competition over the years..My school those days went on 44 unbeaten run and we made it to Lagos where we were defeated by queens college Lagos..Kenyan secondary schools also have such competitions...It was called high school math and science challenge in Nigeria..We also have another mathematics challenge that is held annually...But given the state of affairs in Nigeria currently, I am not sure if the high school competitions are still active..Buhari has destroyed Nigeria..

I am surprised that most of the final contestants are willing to go to the medical school . My nephew was a part of the grand finale about 9 yrs ago and now he is a medical doctor in Ghana .

Probably because most of the industrial oriented fields including engineering, architecture, computer science have not been given the necessary attention and besides government have not built systems to make the job markets for these alternatives futures to be lucrative to these young talents.

Oh yes, it was early 60s and only a few lived through those years. Presec with Paa Tommy, dominated the long distance races, Prempeh won all the short distance races and with Ohene Frimpong, topping up with field events. Those were the days when Joe Lartey was the sports master for Prempeh.
