Excellent tutorial Mike. I grew up running a single screw boat, so my Dad taught me about prop walk. The other thing he taught me, work with mother nature (wind and currents) when you can. Makes it much easier.

Really enjoyed your expert tutorial, how you handle Victoria is amazing. But those cans need a good repaint and who owns all those rusting hulks, especially the Narrowboat, wouldn't mind it myself. Thanks once again Victoria is one of my favourite workers on the Cut.

Another great video. Many thanks. My wife and I were called to rescue a boat up the K&A and the most efficient method was to reverse our 57' up from Frouds to Woolhampton. The river flow didn't help. Lots of bends. Sometimes I had to cheat and use the bow thruster but most of the time a repositioning or blast to reassert the stern did the job. Many thanks again. Learn a lot from this, if only that my crazy ideas aren't all that crazy!

Very interesting video. I wonder why they moved all the those old tugs, workboats, and derelicts out from the 'Stink Hole' and on to the canal?

Excellent tutorial Mike. I'm pants at reversing. Hadn't thought about the rudder stalling. As I'm only on a 45ft boat I wouldn't have to reverse that particular section. Don't have to very often as 45ft is about optimal size to turn and still have living space. But I suspect shorter boats are less stable in reverse, would you agree?

Shorter boats can be harder to reverse, especially if they have a small rudder, however I noticed the tug I was driving at Great Haywood reversed a treat even though it was short enough to spin in most of the canal!

That was very informative ... is it correct that the bigger the prop the more prop walk? I recall some years ago Vicky got quite the upgrade.

Its more the difference between the deep part of the prop and the shallow part of the prop - so yes a bigger prop might have more paddlewheel effect, but so does having more pitch, so it's difficult to pick the best.
