I'm really glad you showed how brutal and complex (but musical) the oscillator and filter voicing can be! I was part of the sound design team and kept finding these incredible sweet spots that in all honesty were not fit for public consumption as factory presets. Thanks for highlighting them as I think they are one of my favourite aspects of the whole machine.

@@mylarmelodies there are lots, you hit on a bunch already. The ability to quantize oscillator modulation independently for each oscillator is great. There are lots of weird PPL like quirks to be found by combining oscillator crossmod and then finding sweet spots on the sync knob. There are independent pan destinations for the two filters or whole voice available in the mod matrix which allow for creative use of the stereo space. The morph knob can also be set as a mod destination if you want to just unleash hell. The FX parameters can all be modulated and when in send mode this allows for modulated dub delay pings... I really could go on, I absolutely love this synth

@The Art of Subtlety Well, I have worked as a hardware design engineer since 1995 and designed dozens of electronic products, what you say might have been true in the 70s and 80s but nowadays the most state of the art electronic assembly factories are all in China. Of course they still have crappy sweatshops that are manufacturing low quality cheap stuff but when you are willing to pay for quality manufacturing, you can have access to electronic manufactures that are more advanced than what is available in North America or Europe. I’ve looked inside the Polybrute and we immediately see that it was assembled in a good factory . The boards are well assembled with no flux residue or crooked components, the solder joints are properly reflowed etc. If you think that a rev 4 Prophet 5 is so much higher quality because it’s made in America, you should know that literally all components of a Prophet 5 are manufactured in China except the wood for the enclosure. So I don’t think that the fact that they are assembled in America raise the quality so much. They could easily find a factory in China that gives them the same quality. And remember that people used to say that stuff made in Japan was cheap and didn’t last... Now look how many legendary classics synths were manufactured in Japan.

Thank you for this video! Yours is the first on this synth that didn't want to make me gag. (Everyone else seems to like patches that sound like butterfly kisses given by faeries in a meadow full of daisies at sunrise.) Pretty is nice, but that's not what I look for in analog synths. I want crunchy, chunky, fat, warm, buzzy and low. Impressive, I can't wait to hear compositions made with it going forward. The character of its sound reminds me of the Moog One a bit, and its six voices are optimized in ways that are quite clever, and because of that this synth will be fun to tinker with. Giving the Great options I think every synth manufacturer would be wise to have song contests based around their new offerings. Whilst visibility is peaking, a slew of songs created with it and showcased on their website would be great fun, and might create a second wave of interest.

@@AdamTheAd-vanc3d for the sound aesthetics and the oscillator concept i tend to like the super 6 more, but the polybrute has some fine modulation capabilities, i guess the super 6 is lacking...

You'll not find a Super 6 preview showing how good it is at BASS. Coz I presume it's not. Floaty pads, but in super dooper stereo!

I keep coming back to this demo. It’s just so good and you make it shine. Now what I’m stuck on is this vs Muse vs PB12. For almost $1k less than Muse you lose 2 voices but gain so much more in modulation tone shaping and effects. The Muse sits in the middle with less modulation and effects but the feature set is tuned really well for it and it sounds just so raw and lush like what you’d expect from a Moog. The Arturia doesn’t a bit cleaner to my ears. Then of course there’s the 12 which gains you 4 voices, poly AT, all the previously advantages of the 6 for only $500 more that the Muse. Tough choice.

I hear that! If you have the means I’d really recommend a pilgrimage to a shop where you can compare both - there’s no accounting for taste, I often find in person I feel differently about something vs online impressions, be it thru the way it works, sound, look, feel. Ultimately features are only one part of what makes us connect with an instrument

Amazing! Best demo I’ve seen yet! Arturia make amazing synths. I already have the MatrixBrute and I love it. I can really vouch for their build quality, controllability and amazing sounds. The PolyBrute is not just a polyphonic version of the MatrixBrute, it is an entirely different beast and destined to be my next purchase. I also have Moog but I’d have to spend much more to get anything close to the versatility of the PolyBrute.

Absolutely brilliant pal, you show just how much knowledge you have of how this synth works, I would love to have half that knowledge, I would love there to be a complete Masterclass like series on how to use this amazing machine, I have one and try to use it but my knowledge is limited, any pointers to any documentation or videos that will describe for instance the modulation section and Arpeggiator, those are an area that I struggle with and seem to be lacking anywhere with help or tutorials, there is a lack of polybrute tutorials it seems, few seem to have the grasp like you demonstrate here. Many thanks again for your Modulation section especially useful ...

Great demo man! Others have mentioned that it tends to sound somewhat similar to the classic Yamaha CS-70M in tone, and I would tend to agree. But the PolyBrute can get way more aggressive, of course. Looking forward to hearing more of this synth!

That’s interesting - I’ve played a CS-80 and CS-5 but never the CS-70m - that “inbetween” CS range always seemed quite mysterious!
@synth4ever
@synth4ever 4 жыл бұрын
@@mylarmelodies Indeed, the CS-70M is not well known compared to the CS-80, but has its own distinct character. They are fairly rare these days so difficult to come by. I was able to try one at the Vintage Synth Museum last year and posted a demo of it... I can definitely hear some similarities with the PolyBrute's tone, particularly sounds like this (not my track): soundcloud.com/shiversss/the-emerald-tablet-of-herbie Anyway really enjoying what I've heard from the PolyBrute so far, especially your drum machine + synth jams toward the end. You have a great creative style and approach, look forward to more if you get the chance. Cheers m8!

The ‘PolyBrute’ and the ‘UDO Super 6’, are two of the most interesting, and expressive sounding new synths. I wish I could take the best features of both, and combine them into one. My hat goes off to Arturia for the built-in multi-effects processor, XY pad, and ribbon controller (all will give this synth a major edge!)
