I'll say this once then off my soapbox. This video is absolutely stunning.... THIS IS the very ESSENCE of the ART of Electronic Music and the random nature of analog circuity which makes it such an absolute joy to create and hear..parts of this video brought me to tears... the random nature of control voltage non-linearity is just so absolutely beautiful and breath-taking...nothing is ever the same twice and hence, why it is TRUE ART in its most simple , honest and raw form.

Couldn't agree more! The #1 ingredient for creating fabulous art is the amount of passion you have for the subject. This is a great example of a simple video which turns out to be masterpiece of someone who drives such a passion towards what he is doing, and took the time to document some of it as well.

Speaking of random, I'm looking for a module that is small and does random CV. I only find a lot of random GATE, but I want random CV like the Mother-32 outputs it in one of the modes in its ASSIGN output. Anyone knows a module that does that? Even Intellijel random source only seems to output random GATES, not cv.

I lusted after Ryk's sequencer pretty hard back when I had one a five-module 100m setup. I'm happy to see that Intellijel has licensed it because, as your video demonstrates, it deserves a wider audience. Wave Strike's comment about "Top Gear" is spot-on. The tone and pacing are very slick, and you've clearly spent some time with it. Excellent video.

mylarmelodies i just came back to watch this again. Ive had metro for a few months now and its still ridiculously fun. I didnt “get” all the various features of sequencers, and I realized this wasnt ideal for drums (at least more than 1 track of drums...so, drum?), so i have other sequencers now for drums (primarily euclidean circles v2-also brilliant), but the metropolis is still so unique and immediate and tactile. You have been an instrumental and wonderful guide on my eurorack journey. I follow everything you post; its always rad, smart and usually funny. Thank you!

This sequencer is still so fresh! Being able to reduce the gate time via knob to nothing and skip steps is something so powerful. Incredible demo. Feel like this is more in the spirit of how I make music than metropolix. Less depth but more immediacy, and less information on screens. That and I’s probably get the metropolix if I could afford to get so spendy. Did this sequencer change the way you looked at sequencing in modular at all? I guess we all have our different ways to get away from the 8 steps repeating forever. Thought I have some ways, I don’t quite have the predictability of complex patterns repeating at warp speed such as this. Thanks for teaching so so much!

Mike Synct did you have Eurorack to start off with or did you start from scratch? I obsess.over these videos myself and want to get started. What do use for your racking system? Cheers
@synct8 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, no I indeed started from zero eurorack, just a healthy obssession with synthesis and electronic music in general. I started of with a Virus C, moved onto a Virus Ti and Maschine, then got an Analog Rytm to add to the collection. Im not that effected by GAS, so everything that I have gets used - nothing sits about waiting to have music made on it and to me thats extremely important. I wouldnt actually advise getting the thing I have for racking - Waldorf KB37 - as it take a fair chunk of budget that could be spent elsewhere, on a nice doepfer case and a MIDI interface... however I have found its space limiting in a great way and I needed a grown up feeling controller keyboard anyways. I can only have 114hp on it, so I really had to consider what I wanted out of my first system. The keyboard is also superb. I guess what I am trying to say is heavily heavily research this stuff - get an account on Modular Grid, get on Muff Wigglers and get on the rest of KZbin and then just spend like 2 months getting to the point where you feel like you already own a modular, does that make sense? When I got mine I had done so much oogling andd research, it actually felt like I had owned it for years and the learning curve was gone. Really hope you join the crew man, it has been the most exciting and musically liberating thing I have ever done. So much so I am rethinking the directions I want to take as an artist, but thats another story. Anyways, good luck on your adventure bud, peace.

Mike Synct Thanks loads for the reply. I to have a hardware arsenal but the flow and sounds that I see on these videos from modular set ups really ticks a few more boxes. Good advice, I'll research and design the system before spending the cash. Look forward to posting my own videos someday!

This video is fantastic! Very good demonstration, and very musical. Much more listenable than most eurorack videos on youtube. One question, around 6:10 into the video I can hear some of the notes change slightly, as if there's a random/chaos element to the module. Is this the case, or is it a glitch or something?
@mylarmelodies10 жыл бұрын
Thanks - Yeah occasionally when you have a fader right on the knife edge between two notes it can sometimes do that - bear in mind I've got it on Oct-3 mode here meaning the throw of the fader covers three octaves, you can change that to two octaves, or one, in which case the notes are much further spaced out and you're less likely to find that happening. Personally though I think it's cool it does that, after all most of the time I'm trying to add variation anyway, and since it's all pitch quantised, it's all musical.
@MattKeenanMusic10 жыл бұрын
Awesome, thanks for explaining. Yeah I guess it turns into a feature if you want it!
@mylarmelodies10 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I've been having fun recently running it in chromatic mode and using an Intellijel uScale to quantise the output to my own scales - that's ace actually, the interaction between the two, as I have to admit I'm pretty clueless when it comes to interpreting the names/applications of 'actual' musical scales in Metropolis, but I can understand the piano roll.
