I love this. The moment that I saw her I went "that is the face and body of a middle aged woman who has been under unbearable stress for twenty years" and then her expression of hope when she thinks her husband might be coming home. Just amazing. I also love how much dignity she has in public. I have no doubt she could be out there in rags and still treat the suitors with such utter contempt. That is a Spartan queen; beautiful, intelligent and powerful. Love it.

yep! the kind of bow odysseus had was described as “palintonos” which means “bent backwards” so if the suitors wanted to string it the ends of the bow would have to be pulled backwards into the proper bow curve before being strung. like basically fully reforming the bow just to string it and use it, which is impossible if youre not hella strong considering the bow was made of wood and animal tendons

That could had been possible simply because Hera is the goddess of marriage. Odysseus as long as he is alive he is the husband. Another marriage with any of the suitors would had broken her more sacred value, marriage. So yes, Hera might had blessed Penelope to hold on knowing Odysseus is still coming home.

Every single one of these animatics is a heavy reflection of your grasp on framing and form. Like, good GOD. The arms and torsos draw the eye, obviously, but the fact that you add so much hatched detail and have such a fantastic idea of how fabric works? And the fact that these characters actually display the visible signs of age?? The gestures you can FEEL? I mean, seriously, Penelope just brushing her fingers over the shroud itself is gorgeous, and the whole thing only grows more so. The expressions are so intense. I am loving this Character desgin of Peonelope; historically speaking, Peonelope was Spartan, and most spartan women were treated as equals, and were expect to preoform as such. So her having a desgin that reflect that is amazing. Better is that Peonelope is also rumored to be incredibly beautiful, and is depicted more feminenly in media, so her representation of being athletic and just a intimidating as her husband helps us understand how powerful she was

The focus on her hands and how strong they are hits so hard for me! I’ve been listening to the recording of Emily Wilson’s Odyssey translation and her foreword actually speaks quite a lot on Penelope’s hands, which are described using the same words used for a soldier’s hands in the scene where she unlocks Odysseus’s armory. That detail lives so rent free in my head so I always imagine a focus on her hands when I listen to the song-on top of catering to me specifically with that detail, your design of her is perfect and her expressions are so fantastic. Jesus Christ, dude, all the fucking detailing of Penelope's design! Her strong and calloused hands, the bulky build full of strength showing she was once a princess of Sparta, just so delicious. Then the way her tired face lights up with this youthful vigour and hope at the prospect that something is going to change, that her husband may soon return just rips my heart out of my chest and stomps on it. OMIGOD AND ODYSSEUS!!! The way he lights up at the sight of the love of his life. I feel like I don't see enough versions of her that depict her as actually having aged, and certainly none that make her this physically imposing. I don't think anything could really unseat your version as #1 in my ranking lmao Edit: Came back to add in that I can almost perfectly imagine an animatic of Would You Fall In Love With Me Again with your style. This Penelope design would lend perfectly towards the mix of softness and determination that she goes through during that song, particularly the indignation at the very idea that she wouldn't love Odysseus anymore. That plus the contrast of how seemingly frail your version of Odysseus is, and how much smaller he'd seem next to Penelope. It would really add even more weight behind her comment that his "frame is lighter" than when she last saw him. This is brilliant! The most realistic animatic for this universe that represents it's characters as so distinctly human. I loved Antinous! I FELT like he fit the voice so well and represented exactly the kind of man we heard him be in 'Hold Them Down'. Penelope Spartan Queen made my heart MELT and I love it because it makes SENSE! How could 1 woman and 1 boy of 20 fend off over 100 men thirsty for the chance to be King - to bed HER as Queen - she HAS to be strong. She has to be fierce enough that it makes these men pause and WAIT for YEARS before finally growing impatient and I believe your Penelope is exactly the kind of woman who encompasses that fierceness and loyalty.

omg first the scylla design that actually takes use of how she supposedly looks in the mythos and now the bow... you’re gonna make me screAm. i also adore the body types you chose for both scylla and penelope. a lot of animatics draw the girlies super thin (except for athena who's occasionally muscular) when these women were considered to be epitomes of ancient greece's beauty standard, which was anything but thin (not saying there's anything wrong with being thin ofc i just find variety to be refreshing !!)

the amount of detail in this animatic is ABSURD! i really especially love the way you depicted the challenge, its really unique taking the actual axe heads that connect to the handles! instead of drilling an arrow-sized hole at the blades themselves. i've never seen that sort of depiction before, in media featuring the Odyssey, but that little change really makes it seem more sensible! kudos!

I love this so much!!! I have no qualms with the other interpretations of Penelope so far, but oh my gods! You have her a warrior body with plumpness to show her class, upbringing and feminity and gods the crows feet are awesome! So pretty and they really show the amount of mental stress she's been having to deal with for two f-ing decades! Including threading and undoing a shrowd daily for at least one full decade! Her hair is so pretty too with the almost crimped like curls and i love how it is a veil like for a marriage ceremony(gods Ody's eyes lighting up is EVERYTHING) then removing it for a sort of shawl or cape because she already has a man she waiting for is just exactly what I've been waiting for without realizing!!! I love this so much and how despite showing the years of stress and strain you immediately bright in her excited and determined energy, i was literally squealing when she was dancing around on the balcony with her hope rejuvinated!!!

Pretty sure he’s metaphorically “looking at the blood on his hands” as in he is thinking about all the harm he’s done. In the final song of epic, he’s concerned Penelope won’t love him anymore if she knows what he had to do to get back to her, so this is referencing that. Seeing Penelope again causes him to recall the blood he shed by seeing it on his hands. And as other people said, the blood is both red and gold because he feels responsible for both human death and has Poseidon’s blood on his hands.
