[Open for all supplies, links and other info!] Here’s a tutorial on how I made my own DIY Bullet Journal, Traveler’s Notebook style! It only cost me about £1.50/insert and £5/cover (the total cost of the supplies will be higher, but you can make multiple inserts and covers).
• Dot Grid pdf: mylifeinabullet...
• Process step-by-step Breakdown: mylifeinabullet...
------ SUPPLIES USED ------
I linked similar products if I couldn’t find the exact ones, however I do recommend buying the supplies from your local craft store. If you’re from the UK, I recommend shopping for supplies from Hobbycraft (that’s where I bought everything).
---Inserts (notebooks)--
• Dot grid pdf: mylifeinabullet...
• Paper (from Daler Rowney Sketchbook). Feel free to use any paper that you like.
• Cardstock (12” x 12”) - US: goo.gl/Fq2tah / UK: goo.gl/3EpTDb
• Staples - US: goo.gl/hu9qmP / UK: goo.gl/HwksFZ
• X-acto knife - US: goo.gl/k7CjVJ / UK: goo.gl/dBYJcy
• Self-healing mat - US: goo.gl/SdZwXP / UK: goo.gl/Q6MQ3W

• Bone folder (optional) - US: goo.gl/vLbyxe / UK: goo.gl/2pqmtx

--Alternative Inserts--
• Miliko notebooks - US: goo.gl/Eic87F
• Muji Notebooks - US: goo.gl/sKJDrf
--Cover--
I recommend buying the supplies from the craft store.
• Pleather (from local fabric store): it was about £4 for enough material to make about 4 covers
• Heat n’ bond - US: goo.gl/eSbY5p / UK: goo.gl/7Nq8v3
• Self-healing mat - US: goo.gl/SdZwXP / UK: goo.gl/Q6MQ3W
• Rotary cutter (or X-acto knife) - US: goo.gl/48FFr2 / UK: goo.gl/9vbJWw
• Eyelets - US: goo.gl/ZzCBi9 / UK: goo.gl/Cw1xe8
• Elastic (2mm) - US: goo.gl/a64daS / UK: goo.gl/tjUeLt

When using staples be aware than unless they are brass they will eventually rust and damage the pages - this will take a good number of years, but if you want it to last there are many Japanese sewing/bookbinding techniques that will let you have pages that will open flat without any rust problems

I really like what you did here. You are actively creating instead of just consuming. I love how popular these travel journals are, and I love anything that inspires people to write more but I am not a fan of feeling the need to go out and buy things just to scratch the creative itch. I feel the benefit to taking your time to create something like this is that you will end up writing in it more often because of the pride you feel in it. It truly becomes YOUR journal. Thank you for the wonderful content.

Hi! To keep the elastic from undying themselves, put a couple of drops of nail polish on the knot! If you coat the elastic ends with nail polish, they will be less likely to fray also. PVA glue (white school glue) works as well, it needs more than one coat to get the same results as the nail polish though. Also, if you put a little clear nail polish on the eyelets, they will take WAY longer to tarnish! Thanks for a great video!

This is a very exciting project for making a totally custom vegan Traveler's Notebook (any color paper and elastics, etc., etc.) with thoughtful attention to detail and really clever techniques (like not needing to buy the really long, strong staplers)!!! Your videos are beautifully filmed with very clear information. Only thing missing is I'd love to see how to make a pen loop.

I came here because I wanted to learn how to make a bullet journal inexpensively and that I wouldn't have to buy supplies for the only thing I had to buy were the eyelids and those were not expensive at all. I'm just starting to use traveler's notebooks for my bullet journal because I was so tired of transferring all my collections and logs from journal to journal. This way I can have all my main logs and collections in one notebook and just switch out the monthly/weekly/daily log book when those are done with.

Beautiful video, really lovely. Clear and concise instructions, and very inspiring. I've made many of my own inserts, but never a cover--your video inspired me to go get some material tomorrow and do just that! Thank you for sharing your techniques with us!

Best instructions out of all of the many I watched. Saving this for later, so I can go step by step when I am ready to make it. Thanks!
