There was a medial doctor who lost the use of his legs. He had a large family (boys and girls) and as each became older they took their turn helping their father with his many side construction projects. Because of his condition they did the actual labor under his direction. Eventually each kid became a doctor like their father. They credited the work they did with their dad as giving them a better understanding of how things actually work and it helped them in their studies. Your kids, besides building a cool place, are gaining the smarts and skills a classroom never could. I've enjoyed your videos.

IT HAS BEEN A VERY LONG DAY ! So nice 2 come N & watch my favorite family show! I really needed the break 4 a while! Thanks Y'all because I needed 2 C what the solar setup looked like! Have a great week end ! Y'all deserve it ! I'm a dog lover & Diesel is adorable carrying his toy around place 2 place ! Garen seems 2 B real handy around the homestead with his mechanical capabilities ! I would have liked my son & daughter 2 have shown an interest N building and mechanics ! Knowing how gives U a since of freedom & independence ! ! ! I love it but maybe as they get older & have the need 4 it they will pick it up. Necessity is the mother of invention ! Sorry. I made the same mistake with the breakers. I plan on putting heat to both sides of the breaker box so that I can use all 6 breakers as singles, no 240v. My house system is 24v and the shed for my son is 12v.

Gary and Shelly, I'd double check Arizona's laws about going off grid. Some states will actually fine you for going off grid because of stupid dumbass laws forcing people to be dependent on utilities because the utility companies pretty much buy off politicians to make those laws. There was a woman here in Florida that actually went to jail over that.

To battle the problem of heavier gauge wire you can go up with the panel voltage..Just connect the panels in series of three panels coming up to 72 volts and have two sets of those.. Your morningstar MPPT charge controller can easily handle that. :)

Great video, I would have run the under ground wire through 3/8" pvc. But where i live it rains a lot.

+Michael Hunt i would of ran conduit . its cheaper then pvc and i would of ran at least 2 inch so if they add more panels its easier to pull wire and increase size

+grizz270 You can't run conduit underground it is against code and logic, even galvanized metal will rust if it is left in contact with the earth

Just love your vlogs and have watched most of them. Such a great family you are... But tell me just where are you located? One of my sons is wanting to do a earth ship home...and of course Az is a place he would love to build one..but I tell him there are places that he could build here in Washington State orothers no need to burn the summers away...I am a total believer of Earth shifts and coming mini ice age but first the shift will happen and changes will happen and we all will feel it.. But I still would love to know where your location is not the actual address but general state location just to see differances in the actual weather patterns ...ie generally 4 days to dry a floor for one of your EARTHBAG rooms to what it would be if one was to be built in the Pacific Northwest well Eastern part of Washington that is...where the summer days are less hot than the southern parts of AMERICA. And just to let ypu know some of the videos are not found was wanting to watch the Underground Green House.. For year round gardening... Broken links??? Oh we get it lots on my mothers family site Bigelow Family....one of the largest just some snerks booting out links... Again love the shows keep it up one true watcher here.

Just a thought, I bet the 3D printers run DC internally, It might be possible to get or make a DC to DC converter and run straight DC to the structure for the printer, and even use DC lighting. there would be a potential savings by not converting DC to AC back to DC, as with each conversion there is a loss of actual power. However, the length of the run to the structure might drain some power, There are too many unknown variables for me estimate power loss.

I noticed you aren't running the 24v DC to the buildings themselves, but instead only run the 110v AC output from the inverter. Is this because there would be more loss over that distance from the low voltage wiring than the loss the inverter causes?

here is something to add to you tool box to identify the wires at different purpose, like red for DC positive, green for DC negative, white for AC neutral, black for AC hot, you get the idea. also don't run AC and DC in the same box and make sure all metal and ground pins are connected to common earth ground, including to ground lug on inverter, not that you didn't just sharing, it's a common mistake.Also your battery cable size should be total inverter power/24 volts = amps then check a wire size chart, if they are under size you won't get full power from inverter, just saying.you may consider adding some time a MPPT charge controller that you could wire panels in series to get a higher dc voltage, hense getting more power on the existing #6 cables, like the midnite classic.Love what you are doing.www.homedepot.com/p/GE-14-ft-3-4-in-Electrical-Tape-Assorted-Color-5-Piece-18156/203709206

+Submanca When you add tracking you also add complexity, Now you have motors to maintain as well. Thats the reason most homes skip it, well that and the added cost.

Claythargic Well IMO the complexity is minor if you have the right mount ie satellite. If you want to increase the size of your system by 50% it's cheaper to go tracking than to buy 50% more panels.

Having experience in electrical work watching that one dude twisting those wires together with needle nose pliers made me cringe.....nicking copper causes breakage and spark. All u need is to cut back the insulation a quarter inch hold the wires together and twist a wire nut onto the ends... I usually top the wire nut off with a couple wraps of electrical tape so the wires don't unwind and pop off the nut.... yes the wires create a weld but ur gonna end up having to reconnect those wires when they break down the road with what I'm looking at....just saying

John Smith. That is right.... suppose to cut a bit longer and braid or bend them togeather as twisting will break the wires... Ole neighbor electrician (& dog sledder) whom helped hook up a mobile home power box showed me just how and gave warnings as well...many years ago in Superior, Wyoming.
