Day 10 of the MMV Christmas Advent Fixathon Challenge, 24 fixes in 24 days!!
Different item each day.
Join me in this Christmas Special where we will attempt to fix a faulty item everyday in the run up to Christmas.
Should be fun!
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in these videos.
Many thanks, Vince.

A hammer drill, as the name implies, impacts (hammers) forward. Think of tapping a chisel with a hammer, driving into the material. An impact driver, on the other hand, impacts rotationally. Think of when you are trying to remove a stuck nut or bolt with a ratchet or breaker bar, and you tap the handle of the wrench rotationally to help break it loose. (The impact driver, of course, is usually used for driving in, however.) Two different mechanisms and uses. An impact driver won't help you much if you are trying to drill into masonry, and a hammer drill won't work well for trying to drive screws deep into wood.

Hmm got to love the smell of fresh sparking brushes in the morning. I can recommend Dean Doherty for watching power tool fixing of all sorts, admittedly since they are doing it as a service for tradespeople getting their kit repaired it's replacing worn/broken parts with new depending on what the manufacturer supplies rather than the component level repairs we love here but it's still super satisfying watching someone with the knowledge strip the tools to pieces and rebuild them, plus they're really generous videos if someone wanted to tackle the same repair themselves.

Incorrect on how impact drivers work Vince, impact drivers have rotational force and impact (it momentarily slips then hammers the rotation again, many times a second which provides very high torque with minimal twisting on the reaction handle, where you hold). BUT, I love these videos, so this is just a minor nitpick.

A couple of points that may help: firstly, an impact driver doesn't drive the drill bit directly, but drives through a rotary hammer mechanism using a spring loaded clutch. When the bit lags behind the motor rotation the clutch slips allowing the hammers to apply a greater force, repeatedly hammering the bit around. Secondly, this means that the much greater turning force is applied to the bit. Normal bits will work but impact bits are tougher to withstand the extra load. Expect to break certain types of bits with an impact driver as some are too brittle to withstand the punishment. It's cheaper in the long run to use bits specified for impact driving. HTH

I personally don't mind background noise in KZbin videos you know a washer going off, people talking or whatever else it just shows that the KZbinr is keeping it real and honest. This is one of the reasons i like your videos because you keep it real and don't do any fancy editing to canel out the background noise and real life daily things. At the end of the day you're a family man you have a wife and kids and you have other family members it's called real life and it shows you actually have a real life outside of KZbin.

The factory defects can be interesting to see. I once trash picked a Harbor Freight electric 3” disc Cut-Off tool (20000 RPM type). At any rate, I don’t think it ever worked for the person that bought it, it was dead but looked brand new, I took it apart and eventually found a bad crimp at the stationary motor windings, they crimped a connection right over the enamel coating and it wasn’t making contact, I fixed that and it worked perfectly, still works many years later.
