I got to replace the battery in a friend's phone yesterday and it had previously had the screen replaced at a professional repair place, I found 6 screws loose in the phone, a ribbon cable routed on the wrong side of the EMI shield and multiple screws in the wrong holes. I was astonished. Point is don't expect someone to do a better job because you pay them to repair something professionally it just means they're under more time pressure.

Hi Vince, great video. I have a tip for removing light scratches on plastic. I use brasso, the tin with the wadding, and I lightly polish the area with the wadding and it really works. If you do it on painted surfaces you have to be extra careful that you don't go through the painted surface. I've used it for the many boomboxes and tape decks I repair and they look great. Keep up the great work my friend. Kind regards. Paul.

Great job =D You may get that laser working by soaking the laser assembly in IPA (for like 2 hours) ! Sometimes smoke or dust does get inside the optical path!
@marcianzero_yt4 жыл бұрын
Really? I frequently have white residue when cleaning stuff with too much IPA. (99.9%) I do have a laser from a smoker´s PS4 still in my basement. It works intermittently. Will try to do the IPA bathing and see what’s coming out of this.
@GadgetUK1644 жыл бұрын
@@marcianzero_yt The white residue shows there's either some contamination on the thing you are cleaning, or the IPA is not as pure as its made out to be! IPA should just evaporate leaving no residue at all. The other possibility is its reacting with what you are cleaning.

Hi Vince .When i clean my computers and game consoles I take them over my garage where I have a small compressor. It's much better and removing all the dust especially from hard to reach places .It's easier and quicker to use a brush everything down and blow the dust out. Its brilliant for the fans where the brush just loosens the dust and the air blows it off.I always hold or secure the fan blade to stop it spinning when blowing them out as you can break the blades if the fan changes direction suddenly when you blow it out. The dust that comes out of fan cooled power supplies is unbelievable. I find the minute you use something damp ,like a wet wipe on the fans, you have to go over every part of it multiple times to remove the sticking dust. If everything is dry and you just use a brush the air takes it straight off.A wipe down with some ipa after dust is removed and looks as good as new. I know there are warnings about static electricity caused by moving air etc but I have been doing this for thirty years and have yet to have a problem. The only times I had a problem with static is when I forgot to ground myself by touching the case etc before working on a pc. Must have built up static from walking on carpet, buggered a graphic card up, happened twenty years ago, lesson learned and have never happened again.Thanks for the video mate.

An ultrasonic bath would be handy for all the cleaning that you do. Most parts including PCBs can safely be cleaned in one, you just need to be careful about nylon and rubber parts which are best cleaned by hand and you need to be sure parts are fully dried before reassembly. It would save you a lot of work.

Lasers in optical devices are *extremely* sensitive to static and are often unknowingly damaged by simply being disconected. In order to protect laser diodes during handling, there should be provision for 'shorting' the laser, more often than not this can be found on the ribbon cable itself as a couple of exposed copper 'pads' which can be 'bridged' by a blob of solder. This should be done BEFORE removing / unplugging any cables. Hopefully this precaution has been done with your replacement and if so remember to remove any 'short' AFTER plugging the ribbon cables back in. It goes without say to be extra carefull regardless not to touch the ends of any ribbon cables. Hopefully your replacement won't have already been damaged this way before you get it.

Too funny you posted this I just finished diagnosing and partially repairing a PS4 Pro. Had a faulty hard disk which I replaced then got an error when installing the firmware that pointed to fuse F6202. Removed the fuse and bridged the connection temporarily with an extremely tiny jumper wire (~2mm) and the firmware could be reinstalled on the new hard drive. The disc drive had a bend in the top plate so I bent that back into shape and it will take discs in but can’t read them. I’m wondering if I can get that fuse and replace it if the disc drive will be able to read the discs. It loads and ejects just fine. A new fuse here in the US is about $14 after tax and I don’t have a reflow station so I’ll have to pay a local shop about $10-15 to do it for me but I think that would be worth it to get the disc drive fully functional again. What do you think?
@MyRegardsToTheDodo4 жыл бұрын
It should still work, even with the bricked fuses, I did that too on two PS4 Pro (I just used some solder after I clipped off the fuses), both work fine. If it doesn't recognize disks it could either be a faulty laser or a bad ribbon cable/connector, I had both on separate PS4s.

As lasers get older they use more power which causes more heat. The focus is done by a "voice coil" that gets hot and looses its ability to hold the laser up. The result is sometimes you can adjust the focus to get it working but will not last. Sorry this is a bit poor explanation but its the jist of it.
@StephenArsenault4 жыл бұрын
I legit thought for a minute you were going to fix it by cleaning the mirrors. I still feel like if it wasn’t so hard to test your fixes at that level you could find the fault.

Hi Vince, I have the exact same issue(first time light for 1 sec 2nd time nothing then repeat) minus the disk problem I tried fiddling with the sockets that receive the prongs for good 20 minutes inserting and removing power several times. I thought I was doing it wrong so I temporarily soldered wires on each prong and inserted in the sockets(continuity checked ok) still no luck. Inserted multimeter probes alongside wires in socket and I saw it supplying 12 volts for a sec and then off. Fan moves a little than stops(just like ur APU blod ps4 video). Any tips? I have a similar issue with blood on a ps4 1001. The light turns on for 2 seconds and turns off. There is no fan spin. I found roaches in the system (got it off ebay). They were mostly in the psu, so that leads me to believe that the system needs a new psu since the fan does not spin within the 2 seconds. I ordered an new psu so hopefully that fixes it. Noticing the fact the disc would only go in so far, it looks like the spindle is NOT in the empty drive position. Since you checked some of the mechanism that does move, why doesn't the disc go in all the way? only ONE thing can ever do that, the spindle or motor is in the engaged with disc position. The biggest clue of all was how far the disc would go into the drive. The drive was registering a disc when there was no disc. That's the first ting I noticed @11:48. Now, this raises the question as to why? Why would the drive be registering a disc? The disc would not go in as far as the hole as the spindle is in the way. Biggest clue of all. In oter words, the spindle mechanism does move up and down to release the disc, should this fail, then eiother it will be stuck in the position it thinks a disc is in the drive and potentially, the motor has failed or a component more directly connected to that mechanism has failed. Maybe the drive was taken apart and nOT put back the way it should have been meaning the spindle was stuck in the wrong position when put back. Not sure but it was definately in the wrong position when you tried to put the disc in, as proven by how far it went in.

The two prongs under the power supply was bent by the perso who take it apart before, i had a ps3 slim with the same problem, bent connector and stuck power supply.
@MyRegardsToTheDodo4 жыл бұрын
That's not a BLOD, that's a fault with the electrical system. A BLOD means it turns on and the blue light keeps blinking. The original problem with it not taking disks in meant that the insides of the drive probably weren't aligned properly, if the drive was opened before (or the console was dropped). Also, what firmware is it on? If it has been sitting since 2019 without being turned on it might be on a firmware that is hackable, could be softmodded for all kinds of homebrew (and yes, piracy, but that is the least interesting part about softmodding).
