Tslim Alleyesonme No, he’s actually his lover but this movie didn’t want to go that direction and instead made them cousins even though Patroclus was fucking badass in the Iliad. He was an exiled prince whose kill count rivalled Achilles and killed a son of Zeus, Sarpedon (who is the second strongest of the Trojans after Hector) while impersonating Achilles. That’s why Achilles loses his shit when he dies.

He couldn't close his eyes knowing the reality of the situation with no glorious revenge in his hands. Such badassery reminds me of the first scene with Achilles when the boy wakes him up and he goes back to sleep before finally rising. Only in this movie Paris survived. In the myths , it was not Achilles that set foot in Troy , but rather his son. Achilles was cowardly killed by Paris , but after that , every hero from greece desired blood from Paris , because of how he won. So one of them uses Heracles' arrows to shoot Paris , which is poisoned that gives so much pain , that Paris killed himself to end his misery.

the cinematography was so good in this movie, but if you read the Iliad, you see how inaccurate the characters’ portrayals are here. The rage and sorrow that consumes Achilles is so much more intense in the Iliad. Achilles agrees to send Patroclus to battle in his disguise, and realizes it would be Patroclus’s death before the messenger even reaches him. His regret and lament is nothing like I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately these crucial and precious plots of the Iliad are altered in this film. The writers give tons of audience the impression that Achilles is Patroclus’s cousin and a playboy. This is so disrespectful to the original.

HE WAS A EXILE. yes he was a prince but he was exiled for killing a boy over a dice game. This is clearly stated in the illiad. Not a bad movie but a horrible adaptation. Also they could have done so much more with the rage of Achilles. His cries fo grief were so great they shook the bottom of the ocean. While it is not explicitly depicted in Homer’s book the Iliad that the two are in a romantic relationship, later sources do display their love as more intimate rather than brotherly. Here in this movie, Patroclus is younger than Achilles and is his cousin, with no romance in the mix. There are books that display a romantic relationship between the two, one of with is Madeline Miller’s the Song of Achilles, told from Patroclus’ view on how a romantic relationship grows between them.

Damn Agamemnon's a douche - kid's funeral isn't even really started yet and he's already making it about him. I respect that about the movie's makers though; they approached it in a very ancient Greek kind of way. There was no linear spectrum from good to evil. They were just humans/characters existing and doing what they did. The heroes were flawed but mighty. Many of the slain were good, just not as strong or stumbled on the wrong god. I still think Greek mythology is the most intellectually developed of all the religions (saying religion not culture cuz the stories heavily mixed both.)
