Very nice video but I think you forgot a Huge and VERY important subject........scammers.....so many scammers on Upwork and Fiverr that will try to get you to contact them outside of the website chat......be careful people, if they don't chat with you through the website chat......do not accept their offers.

Really helpful, Deya. Thank you. I started on Upwork and found them to be quite decent across the board (once I learned to recognise and avoid the overbearing scams). Freelancer, however, I'm not sure I'd put them in the same tier as Upwork, based on personal experience. 15 days wait for first payment to be processed (which turns out to be 18 days) and a KYC process that left me feeling I was applying for a Swiss bank account. Seriously over the top.

Ever since I started watching you (which is just last week lol) I have had so many ideas that helped me figure out where I was stuck for years with all the knowledge I had already. It isn't just a matter of starting, unfortunately, I still have a ton of work to do beforehand (or do I? maybe I'm trying to procrastinate some more) but I have managed to deal with the ever-present overwhelm. My ducks are now lined up in a row for the next 10-20 years. 😂 The best thing? I didn't even know if I wanted to do this anymore - I'm a book editor, translator and writer - but the info I got from you helped me figure out what exactly I need to do in order to not just get paid but also wake up with enthusiasm and have that passion to work on all my projects and products. My priority is definitely to make sure I have time and energy to pursue different things, there's so much to do within my field. But I want the freedom to live my life as I please too. Your advice really is extra, not just generic stuff. It helps me see what the next steps should be, which as someone with ADHD I struggle a lot with. Even just you talking about Notion was a game changer for me! So, a big thank you from a future fellow soft entrepreneur. 🤗

Freelancer has to go down, People bot clients seconds after they place a job, so you will see 10 bids in like 10 seconds, and then you have the spammers, so you talking 50 applicants per job under an hour, Just a pointer 👍

Downside: none of these work for serious gigs. If your skills are built in an enterprise/B2B environment, none of these platforms will land you anything worth your time.

There is a con of Contra. The payment system doesn't work in every country. You may be able to use debit card, paypal, direct bank transfer for developed countries but freelancers from developing countries has no way of receiving their money.

I think the best is to leave these platforms as fast as possible. Get experience, then get out. They all have toxic pricing cycles. They are a great way to build a portfolio though once you get it going.
