I think the second channel thing is because they have their main style, that they know/can prove gets views/interactions and have a schedule, and it works better getting sponsors, second channel they don't have to worry about any of that, so they can still have fun with youtube and try things out on the alt with no risk to potential future sponsorships

Its an algorithm thing. Not sure if it's been confirmed in come capacity, but the belief is that if you upload a video that doesn't match your standard content, your next couple wont get reccomended as much. KZbinrs have been talking about views dropping on videos that come out after a non-typical video. Secondsry channels are to put out content that doesnt match the main style of the channel.

The reason creators use a 2nd channel is so they can upload videos that they think will have a negative effect on their main channel analytics (usually something that they don't usually upload) therefore affecting potential sponsorship deals. I absolutely loved to watch b0aty prepare for the All-Stars tournament, Jagex invitational tourny and whatever else that I forgot. Unfortunately he isn't interested in PVP, hasn't been in a long time - and as a result he's hopelessly outclassed. The skill ceiling is also sky-high and playerbase has matured beyond comprehension compared to what it was in 2010 Altough he's still really good at the game, I could see him being somewhat competent if he started investing time in it once again.
