bentonite doesn't sink ... it keeps a cycle of shrinking and expanding, which is actually worse than just sinking ... The thing in Denver area, is the builders KNEW of the bentonite but just trucked in loads of "good" dirt as a cover , which eventually '"settled" ...
@ginathacker6207 Жыл бұрын
@@rhuephus Correct. Expands when wet, contracts when drying out. In the 70’s the ‘fix’ was to pour a “voided” foundation. This was kind of like pilings or spread footers so that the load was spaced out and concentrated. Theory was, don’t spread the load evenly. Voided foundation are more expensive to pour, requires soil core sampling and an engineer-even for a basic single family residence. Typically, bentonite is in spots not across super large areas. When a builder buys lots from a developer, the developer will discount the lot sale if voided foundations become necessary. Any thinking builder will soil test lots BEFORE buying the lot. This is a no brainer as soon as it was started. Of course when you pump enough of a liquid out of the ground the ground will eventually settle into the empty space. Whether it be water, oil or fracking fluids. The geologists that were a part of the planning crew were quite well aware of this phenomenon. But they also knew that it would take decades for it to happen, so they succumbed to whatever pressures, (or financial inducements), were put upon them to approve the project. Pretty typical of how our corrupted system works. This is just one of the many ways that the general population is forced to subsidize private business. Sure the government pays for the fix, but where does the government get the money to pay for it. Duh, your tax dollars. What really irks me is how we have to pay for our medical bills when we are afflicted with pollution causing illnesses. Or even worse die from them. The medical system proudly proclaims every new step in fighting cancer. BUT, the best way to reduce cancers by at least 50% is to force the petrochemical industry to stop producing carcinogenic products. Do we see these industries paying our medical bills? Absolutely not. What we do see is our governments subsidizing these industries with hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Then we get told that we have a country that is run by the people for the people. Ya, right. And Santa Claus rides his sleigh every December 24th.

Ground water depletion is a real problem all across the Midwest and desert south west. People are living where they were never intended to live, deserts. The only answer is to remove the homes and stop drawing groundwater. In the Midwest, the problem is using groundwater to grow crops. Large corporate farms have exacerbated the problems. When ground water use depletes an aquifer, it will take decades, if not hundreds of years to replenish it. So for all intents and purposes, once gone, the aquifer is gone for good. Common sense, which seems in short supply, is needed to limit populations in areas to what the water resources can supply. Currently it seems that populations are allowed to grow, and finding adequate water supplies comes next. Insanity for sure, as places like Las Vegas are in a freakin desert!

"deserve" People don't know what that word means anymore. You are essentially saying these people have somehow earned the right to enslave productive citizens who pay taxes. So, what did they do to earn the right to enslave productive citizens who pay taxes? I bet you can't answer the question. I bet you do everything except answer the question.

When the area was originally developed, the technology to see where a safe place to build a home wasnt available. So sad. That said, its still a safe place to put a manufactured home like a double-wide or other homes that the foundation can be safely releveled every few years in a single afternoon. But, city ordinance likely doesn't allow those types of homes.

The city does not care that we have to deal w traffic,what they care about is that formula F1 money that’s the reason why the roads here are getting built and fixed as well as upcoming super bowl

These wonderful poor old people have been paying their taxes since the 80’s and now mostly living on a fixed income. They did their part over the years so now it’s time for both the federal and state governments to take care of them by relocating them to another area and with same plots of lands as well as similar size of homes for them to live their grandchildren. It’s only right! How come nobody asks where money for war, aid to other countries and other crazy projects will come from but when it’s time to help locals it’s a huge debate left to the politicians requiring ‘votes’?. These folks deserve better!

They’ve been pulling water out of the ground for decades, thus the homes sink. There’s a limit to the groundwater.

That's what happens when you remove something from under the ground without letting it replenish. Remove water, then the air left won't have enough pressure to sustain much weight.

How is it the federal government's responsibility? The county and city are responsible for building codes, requirements, inspections and building approval. One thing you can count on is the fact that our governments at all levels will fail us every single time!

Not a federal issue. Though the city and state should be held accountable for allowing the building on faulty land to happen. Relocation is the thing to do for these families.
