Easy EYE-CATCHING Excel Infographic Charts

Wow, this came at such the right time Mynda. A client just yesterday asked for some "infographic" style graphs in a deliverable....Can't wait to try these out.

There is an option at the filling format of the graph that pops only when you use a picture or texture fill, that it is called "Stack and scale with" which removes the distortion effect. This trick and the option of "Stack and scale with" works with icons too. Using male and female icons to show gender ratio in my company is one of my favorite. Especially when i use an only outlined icon to show 100% and a filled icon to show up to which point it is filled. Great tricks. Thank you for sharing them and making them more popular.

Thanks for sharing, Alex. The stack or stack and scale with doesn't work so well with shapes in the examples I've shown in this video where you want the top of the chart to all show the same shape.

One of the things I requested via UserVoice for Excel is the ability to use more than just the default shape types. I’d like to be able to insert an SVG and use that. So, for example if I’m doing a chart if people related data then if I have an SVG of a person I can use that for my columns.

Have you tried SVGs? The Excel Icons are SVG and you can paste them into the charts. They get distorted though, so not ideal.

It's helpful. I never thought of your ways around graphs, like using Ctrl+1 for graphs and the copy and paste. Thank you P.S. Can't you make your thumbnails a little more attractive, little more different each time, even with the zoom? A lot of people can learn from you if they click to your videos and the thumbnails help for that. Thank you

Very nice! However, when I repeated all the steps I get a little white line separating the bottom and top. I played with the outlines but could not get rid of it... Any advice?

I suspect the white line is around the shape prior to inserting in the chart but it's not visible on the white background of the Excel grid.
