2018 Trail Riding & Green Laning Highlights - Devon UK

Some of the best bits from 2018's days out around Devon and Cornwall's green lane trails. Featuring the well honed imbecility of: Sam, Tim, Peter BC, Ray, Scott, Paul, Nigel, R2, R1, John, Hugh, Peter L, Marc, Jack, Dave D, Gary, Colin R, Simon, Jake, Jeff, Mark, Ady, Dave L, Paul, Jamie, Colin J, Matt and Craig.
Bikes featured include: Yamaha WR250F, Yamaha WR450F, KTM 200EXC, KTM 500EXC, KTM 350EXC, KTM 400EXC, KTM 450EXC, KTM Freeride, KTM 690R, Kawasaki KDX220, Kawasaki KDX250, Beta 300RR, Beta X-Trainer, Husqvarna 350FE, Husqvarna 450FE and Honda CRF450R.
Filmed on legal vehicular rights of way around Devon UK and Cornwall UK in HD with GoPro Hero3 & Hero4 on a Chesty mount, helmet mount and GorillaPod.
We were courteous and polite to other road users, even the arsey ones who deserved nothing less than a damn good roosting.

Brings back memories, ridden most of those lanes with trf around Shaldon, Dartmouth etc in the late 90s, tried to spot a few faces, lanes aren't as good in Lincolnshire and stay on the tarmac these days..... used to do clubman class on Coast to Coast, don't suppose that's still going?

2 strokes - more fun, more maintenance. 4 strokes a bit dull, more riding time. So long as you can fit knobblies to it, it'll do.

Out on my wr450f tomorrow, Saturday , going with a few new mates Iv met at the local bike night. We doing Derbyshire dales . Learning some pretty decent lanes . Proper getting in to it . Who knows might buy a go pro .

Thanks for LOLing Lorcan. Lanes aren't labelled with useful width info. I'd say that less than 50% are wide enough for 4x4s.

A good place to start is your local TRF group. They will know the lanes in your area and will provide support and good company. Glad you're enjoying the videos :o)

All around South Devon Bradd, and a bit of Cornwall. You'll need to road register the scrambler as most of these lanes are classified as roads.

Riding unclassified roads and byways on a road legal motorcycle is legal across the UK. All the riding in the video is on legal routes, at least, legal at the time of filming. Some areas only have a sparse coving of green lanes so research before parting with cash.

Another good video! Starting to recognise a couple of those lanes now I am getting out there a bit. Me (on my KTM) and my friend (on an xr) saw the guy with the sherco (I think) black jacket and white helmet around 9.45ish in Sainsbury's Newton Abbot fuel station this morning. Would have come said hello but we were a bit tight for time. Do you normally meet there on a Sunday? Would have been good to tag along. Cheers

Id love to come out and play at some point, you guys look like you have a hell of a laugh! New to greenlaning. Also, what kit do you guys normally wear? MX armour and clothes?

We wear motocross gear and as much under armour as possible. Some prefer the flexibility of trials boots rather than MX boots. Armoured gloves too, MX gloves don't cut it. Also, decent hand guards are wise. You're welcome to come on a ride.

Hi Ryan. It's not a loop, just a compilation of the best bits from about 20 rides in 2018. Should all be legal though - at least it was at the time of filming. No GPX, done from memory and OS maps.

Whats the best way of planning a route? Do you use the green lane map?

We know the area well now, so it's simple to put a route together in your head. Going back a few years it was OS maps and Devon TRF overlays that got us started. This was useful too: www.qwerf.com/greenlaning/?county=devon

Have you considered joining the Devon TRF? There's a full set of map overlays showing all Devon green lanes available for members. We have a lot of decent lanes in South Devon.

OS maps and MemoryMap are really useful. Also, if you join up to Devon DRF there are mapping overlays available that show exactly where the lanes are. If you're near Newton Abbot you're welcome to come out with us.
