Walking in darkness all alone With no place to call my home Winds whispering sad sorrows Silent cries uncertain tomorrows No tears to cry, to ease my pain No way to heel, I'm going insane Will darkness be left forever behind? Will light ever shine in heart and mind Light shines from the skies Blessing angel in disguise Reaching across eternity Saving a man uncertainty No tears to cry, to ease my pain No way to heel, I'm going insane Will darkness be left forever behind? Will light ever shine in heart and mind Leaving bitter memories behind Thinking of better days hard to find Believe in life, don't loose hope, don't despair Believe in love, don't give up the love you share

You are wrong. Progressive music is much about the music as it is about the story or message. Symphony X has great epic lyrics, Shadow Gallery has a great story behind their albums and Dream Theater.. well, everything they do is epic. This guys have a great story line also. Most progressive bands do everything right from their music to their stories.

OPETH IS PROG. have you listened to heritage, they may have begun their career as a death metal band but Arkerfeldt fucking loves prog rock and thats the direction he has been driving his opeth releases in for the last few albums. Heritage is a prog album if ive ever heard one..

the only sub genre that comes into my mind right now that is affected by a song's lyrics is 'fantasy metal', which is related to bands such as "rhapsody of fire". the term 'progressive' means that the music is changing. this particular myrath album is obviously highly influenced by symphony x, which were progressive neo-classical symphonic metal. myrath got a few power metal characteristics but it's definitely not the main genre. myrath is also folk metal or 'oriental' if you will.

Prog isn't a stigma attached to just metal and/or rock. It's a separate concept entirely.
@overdrivegain11 жыл бұрын
I might be mistaken about the lyrics thingy ... but what I was saying is one cannot generalize the genre of some of the rock bands , mostly you can do to each album of this band...

I believe that "progressive" can't be the main genre, because anything can be progressive: Power Metal, Death Metal, Jazz, Psytrance, etc. And although Myrath's music is different than the Finnish or German "classical" Power Metal, I see it as its genre because of the clean vocals, the speed and the melodies.
@qiapz12 жыл бұрын

@Athan050312 жыл бұрын
But Myrath's song here is a great example; the song structure is built upon lots of deviations, bridges, changes of key and all in all, a lot of sections, aka lots of progression. Also the lack of a "hook'" per se; take Eagleheart by Stratovarius. The chorus is an obvious hook, like most other power metal songs. Thing is, most "prog" bands are ProgPower bands... like Symphony X or Angra. Hence a lot of people has the wrong idea of "prog"
@manu12el12 жыл бұрын
pregressive is progressive, can be applied to everithng, like jazz, opera, rock, etc. And opeth is pretty dam original, thats why everyone considered as one of the best progressive bands
@Athan050312 жыл бұрын
The line between Progressive metal and Power metal might not be obvious to the untrained ear, but what you gotta listen for it the riffs and song structure. In terms of technicalities, there are "prog" scales for various instruments, that are often used to construct riffs that wouldn't be used in power metal. Uh... it's hard to explain, but there's a world of difference from Power to Prog ._.

The experimentation of progressive metal has a strong emphasis on technicality and theoretical complexity. This is done by playing complex rhythms and implementing unusual time signatures and song structures - all with the use of traditional instruments.
@PsychikHellgun11 жыл бұрын
