I had a SNES and when the N64 came out, my family didn't have the money to buy a next gen console right away, so my memories of Mario64 are from playing it at shopping malls. It was a magical time, the games, all the sounds in the mall, the smell of popcorn. It might be hard to understand for younger gamers, how big the jump from 2D to 3D felt at that time.

I love this channel. I’m in the uk and was 17 when the n64 came out. The 3 most breath taking moments in gaming do me was golden axe on the mega drive in 1990, Mario 64 in 96 and psvr in 16. The n64 doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Absolute game changer
@inceptional8 ай бұрын
For me those three moments would probably be Street Fighter II on the SNES, Super Mario 64 on the N64 and whatever on the Oculus Rift CV1. Interesting how there's basically two same/similar choices there, which shows just how impacting those things were in the overall landscape of gaming. I'd say the N64 probably does get the respect it deserves, and it absolutely deserves all of it. I really was a huge paradigm shift moment, not just in terms of fully embracing the 3D graphics and 3D worlds, but also the full analogue 3D control out the gate too.

I love this channel. I distinctly remember back when I was 8 years old, and Super Mario Bros. 2 was THE game everyone was anticipating. Back when it came out, you literally had to be there when they put it on the shelf, or it was gone in an hour. Back then, there was no game release events - just a date announced. As luck would have it, I had a relative that worked at my local department store, and she was able to get a copy 2 weeks before it was released. When I told my friends, none of them believed me until they came over and saw the holy grail! It was so awesome - and the fact that you could pick from 4 different characters, each with their own unique abilities (my favorite was Luigi, as he could jump higher). It was insane as even after it was released, none of my buddies could get it for at least a month. Memories I will never forget.

I grew up in a relatively poor family with 5 siblings including me. But during Christmas of 1998, we were gifted an N64. Weirdly it didn't come with Mario, it came with Banjo-Kazooie instead. I'm definitely more of a Playstation guy, but the N64 brought our families together. Pokemon Stadium, Mario Party, Conker's Bad Fur Day, etc. So many good memories with this console!

I had a SEGA Saturn back then (I still have it). I remember how the N64 entered the stores. I was in vacation and one mall had "Waveracer" for playing. So I tested it some rounds. I found it a lousy experience. Mario 64 also never really touched me. I think, some of the better games were "Duke Nukem 3D" with split-screen and some new weapons (but it was censored). One really fun game was "Road Rash 64", but the console had not enough power for 2-player-mode and enough bots. Still a fun game. Looking on my SEGA Saturn, I found the N64 very terrible. Mortal Kombat was bad too, also Sub-Zero-Mythologies. Castlevania did not look good. Later on I had a SEGA Dreamcast and I bought "Re-Volt". Later on I saw the N64-version: once again terrible. ............. I think, Mortal Kombat Trilogy is good for the N64. When the N64 came out, it had almost no chance against the Playstation and the Saturn. And when the Dreamcast and the PS2 came, it instantly killed the N64. But for a young kid it was for sure a nice to have console. In 1998 I had my Windows98-computer and played Half-Life and Kingpin and the "real" Duke Nukem 3D, the N64 was no match anymore.

I waited until 2003 to get my first N64 (fleamarket of course) and boy did I love it at first. Mario 64 and zelda, even star wars. wow. Goldeneye yeah I did that. But years went by and I got a bunch of games and different versions of the console. But it seemed most games just didn't feel right. I mean I finally got a Gamecube in 2005 and really started getting back to top notch gaming (still NES freak). I finally ended up ditching N64 to my grandma's house where I'd play it on vacations. And finally sold it. I was so dissapointed in games like bomberman hero and stuff. N64 really suffered because the cartridges. Damn it could have done way better textures had there been space on the media.
