Yes. The game uses footage of actors rather than 3d models. The Myst team is quite willing to use inflexible graphics (nodal movement and FMV cutscenes) rather than the more open free roaming of most other games (which really isn't necessary for a puzzler). Frees up enough graphical resources to make a 2004 game look good even in 2012.

The thing that makes Mysts 1-4 so beyond their time graphically is the node based movement. When you have to fully render a 3d environment in realtime from any obscure angle the player can find, a lot of processing power is required. If you can pre-render the images (and use greenscreen filmed actors when you need people on screen), you don't need to worry about burning processing power. That's why this game looks at least on par with modern games like Far Cry 3. Despite being quite old.

Im thinking about getting this game but I have a question... Would you guys recommend buying the other games in the series first (for the sake of the storyline) or can I just jump right to this one because its this one Im looking forward to?

After twelve years the answer finally finds you :) Myst IV is the first game I played of the series. Then it was Myst 3, 5, 1 and I'm still to play Riven. Although this is the fourth part, you understand the context of the story, you understand who is who (with the exception of yourself), so you can start with Revelations and then just to other games. But I guess you've already tried the series :)
