In the interest of Esteemed Viewers & Readers of Comments section . (Published in the New Indian Express , BBSR Edn : Nov 2009) #Patitapaban_a_Lesser_Jagannath. Planet earth is a unique place in the universe because one living species inhabiting over its surface called human being has flodded its surface with many Gods,each theist ghetto claiming 'their God',as the Creator of the Universe! 'Jagannath' in Odiya language means Lord of the Universe.Like others,propagandists of the Jagannath cult speak volumes about the 'Mahima' (Greatness) of their Lord;one could listen to their high pitched description during the live telecast of the car festival,an annual event.However all these self proclaimation are decorated over montains of hypocrisy.Having the same name and appearance,the dieties of the Lord are facing highest degree of discrimination by His confused devotees."Which Jagannath is the real Lord of the Universe?";It may be a controversial question,but it comes to mind when the three dieties : The one inside the sanctum sanctorum;the other at the entrance (Mukhashala) of the temple known as 'Patitapaban';and any diety outside the temple are compared.The Patitapaban is placed at the entrance for giving 'darshan' (visual contact) to the 'Patitas' (downtroddens) also called 'Achhutas' (untouchables) who constitute a large section of the Hindu religion but are not allowed inside the temple,a rule imposed by the self proclaiming so-called upper caste Hindus.Patitapaban is a very befitting name coined by the later who are custodians of the temple and the Lord has been assigned the duties of providing salvation to His Patita devotees.He gets a differential treatment from the upper caste custodians (and devotees) and Sevayats of the temple.He is not placed over a decorated dias as given to the dieties inside;He is not well attended;not so dignified; or respected by the devotees who have access inside the temple to visit a 'Superior Jagannath',rather the 'Supreme Jagannath' to all devotees.Very grandiose rituals are performed for the later diety and this has augmented the respect,faith,devotion,obsession and anxiety of His devotees for a visual contact with Him to achieve salvation (which the Patitas could obtain from the lesser Jagannath-Patitapaban).Strange is human behaviour.The Supreme Jagannath could only date with Orthodox Hindus (better read upper class Indian Hindus) inside His temple.Therefore foreign nationals claiming to be Hindus ,but not having anthropomorphical resemblance with the Hindu race ,face humiliation and harassment if found inside the temple premises.The Lord of the Universe must be going crazy upon noticing the amazing behaviour of a peculiar species (human) of His own creation.
