Hey I have some theories that may answer some of your mysteries and as a veteran Zelda theorist/enthusiast level gamer (I’ve played and beat every single game multiple times to 100% completion {minus TOTK I’ve only done the wind dungeon, all the tears, 107 shrines, the depths storyline up to the first Koga encounter, all but one Majin Zao and a plethora of side quests}except ALBW and triforce heroes*) *played with friends but never owned the game. •1: Purah Pad Omnipotence - I believe that since the sheika were just as close to the gods as the zonai and just as ancient, I believe they were able to explore the depths at one point and recorded their findings in a more rudimentary version of the sheika slate (we’ll refer to it as the sheik slab for convenience sake) and we’re able to use zonaite to create their inventions however they were not able to synthesize its magical properties, they used a less refined version due to its ability to harness/withstand massive amounts of energy. And with their knowledge of the ancient flames due to past Impa’s large role and close relationship to Zelda(who is the only iteration to receive memories of her past immortal form after awakening her sacred powers from visiting each shrine) who was the one who had mapped the quest for link to temper his sword and spirit, and Zelda’s connection with each guardian deity is a very simple answer for her knowledge of their locations. After the sealing/containment (I lean more towards the latter as it explains the constant and gradual nerfing of the Master Sword throughout the years) of Demise’s residual energy and The Hero of the Sky’s wish, only our heroes and Groose are in hyrule. I assume it took a few years for the skyloftians to migrate and link and Zelda would want to ensure the safety of their people. I believe this is when the shieka sect was reborn, a group of rangers/scouts/ninja loyal to the crown and specialized in agility, science, magic and stealth, had made a reconnaissance and surveying the land a no brainer for the shieka to be the most suited for the task. Due to the shieka’s mastery of projection magic, they were able to bring a piece of flame with them in their projection shields (as seen in botw, totk, aoc & SS used by yiga & shieka alike) in order to make the ancient furnaces to use as the energy source. And as you know extremely hot rocks make lava and maybe the mix of zonaite and the blue sacred flame of wisdom made a molten substance that is pure energy and does not burn the flesh do to its sacred origin. The furnaces allowed for the creation of more technology and they were surveying the new world they had reclaimed from the demon king and due to their dedication to the goddess hylia, they immediately put themselves on the front line also making them the first inhabitants. I believe at this time the shieka had a sort of schism that was more of a desertion than anything and the deserters hid in the Faron region’s inhospitable jungle and began to live off the land, developing their own culture and form of magic. Around this time I believe the Zonai were beginning to move to hyrule and the skyloftians were just making settlements and did not have the same tech that the sheika did. Due to the schism, I believe a lot of info was lost to time but still inside the program they had developed. The jungle sheika then attacked and were quelled by the zonai who called upon the light spirits to banish them to the twilight realm and due to this were revered at gods. Eventually the zonai began breeding with skyloftians and made Hylians, now able to hear the voices of the gods due to the divine nature of the zonai. And after a few centuries they were almost extinct. Then the events of TOTK plays out and the sheika slate is brought to the past and reintroduced the tech to them. Sparking the inventor sheika to be inspired once again and between the first calamity and botw doubled down on their tech. The rest is history. If this sounds good I’d love to snowball more theories your way but my fingers are tired 😅

10:37: To answer your question about the Purah Pad, I suspect most of it's knowledge of the depth and sky islands comes from Mineru, who is within the Purah Pad until you finish her construct at the Factory. And before you say "NUH UH", we see her go into the Purah Pad in Zelda's transformation memory, and Mineru herself says, after the Spirit Temple, that she was in the Purah Pad the whole time, just didn't have the strength to reach out until Dragonhead Island.

@@MoxieWattsbut mineru is still traveling with link through the sages vow/construct, so she might be able to communicate with the purah pad through the construct. It is mentioned in one of the memories that mineru linked up the purah pad to zonai tech(which is why you can use it to teleport to shrines in game) so she might be able to name locations on the map for link, even outside of the pad. It’s safe to assume that map names can be transferred between two devices near each other if they can be used to teleport link from one end of the world to the other

it’s not that mineru was naming things. the AI was naming things. mineru was a major knowledge source, particularly with regard to zonai things. when mineru leaves, the purah pad is fine because it’s an AI it had always been doing the naming itself and also because it already had the knowledge that mineru would have been the unique source of also..mineru spent thousands of years in the purah pad she would have had plenty of time to prepare it to continue functioning without her and sis definitely would have thought ahead like that

I think "the Zonai" were a coalition of three tribes. The Owl, Dragon, and Boar tribes. And they may even have each been natives to one biome. The Owl Tribe in the Sky, Dragon Tribe ruled on the Surface, Boar Zonai in the depths. Just my take /shrug

A few observations: Master Khoga's shield is the same as the Sheika monks' protection in botw. Other lands are confirmed by Yona mentioning she comes from another domain. Most of the names of sky and depth locations are directly related to the names on the surface. When activating a skytower we see the pad sending map information to the tower and receiving processed information back, before showing the map. But most of the names only appear when you actually get there, so the AI makes sense. Most of the great plateau architecture could have been sent into the sky, but the castle walls? Yeah, though one. I've always seem the bubbul gems as a sort of evolution stone. With it, a person could become a blurpee, who could become a bubbul, who could become a satori. Could the king of the mountain have picked Kilton as its successor? Excellent video, as always.

So, if the Buuble frogs are the blockage preventing one from reaching enlightenment, and destroying them grants you a gem to become a Satori and become enlightened, then it's a quest. A trial to free yourself from all that holds you back from reaching enlightenment. That's a nice little parallel.

I definitely think that the labyrinths are/were proving grounds for young Zonai. Specifically, I noticed that the Hero's Aspect armor piece seems to have decorations on the loin cloth that look like a dragon, an owl, and a boar. The theory I had while playing was that at some point all 3 parts of the labyrinths (land, depth, and sky) were all originally connected to each other, and over time became separated. I also theorized that they might have originally contained pieces of the Zonai Armor Set for 2 reasons: first, the armor resembles Aztec battle armor, so it would make sense for it to have been given to those who proved themselves. And second, it just fits better to have found the Zonai armor in the labyrinths than in the locations they were *actually* found in game. My theory for why we instead find the Phantom Ganon armor is that it's Ganon mocking both Link and the Zonai by essentially desecrating an important cultural site. The armor pieces are found in the Depths parts of each labyrinth, which are the place where his influence seems to be strongest, it would make narrative sense for him to poke fun at Link and Raru by doing something like that

My theory as to why the zonai structures are not on the great plateau is likley because they rose to the sky. You see the sky temple of time in the memories in the great plateau so its likley that alot of the structure of the plateau rose intp the sky and became the garden of time.

On the topic of the purah pad knowing the locations and the whole geography of the depths, I have an explanation. When Zelda goes back in time and gives the purah pad to mineru to analyze, then when mineru “dies” from the gloom, her spirit stays in the purah pad. So it could be said that mineru is the “AI” of the purah pad because her spirit has been in it for centuries waiting for link to receive it from the construct. Zelda time travel lore is intense

Why the Master Sword breaks? Remember when the Great Deku Tree said that the sword becomes more powerful as it rests with time itself? Time spent bathed in sacred power. While weakened during the Great Calamity, it was restored to max potential after the Trial of the Sword. (Even if it still “breaks….”) Since Link poured that energy when he slayed Calamity Ganon, all that energy might have ran out at that point. In Tears of the Kingdom, while the sword was in full glory, little time has passed since Breath of the Wild, hence why it was still weak against Imot- (oops! Not again!) Ganondorf’s Gloom, and it wasn’t bathed long enough to take on the root of the Calamity. Therefore, it sent itself back in time 10,000+ years into Zelda’s hands so she (as the Light Dragon) can fuse the power of the Sword long enough to meet with Link again to finally strike down Ganondorf. The Master Sword is practically one with time. Quote: “Past, Present, Future… The Master Sword is a ship with which you can sail upstream and downstream through time's river... The port for that ship is the Temple of Time...” In the perspective of the Child Timeline by the events of Twilight Princess, the Master Sword hasn’t been pulled from its pedestal since the Hero of the Sky laid it to eternal rest after he had vanquished Demise. Due to Zelda’s actions in the Adult Timeline, the Child Timeline has it that the Master Sword remained to rest since the eradication of Demise until the Hero of Twilight arrived trapped in wolf form binded by Zant’s evil hold. From that point, neither Zant nor Ganondorf were absolutely no match against the Master Sword, that rested and powered after countless generations since the people of the sky settled on the surface that became Hyrule. Demise’s curse at that point breaks. Ganondorf screaming in pain and agony, struggling to get up, believing “it does not end here…” He was wrong. No physical contact with the Triforce, an inferior form of Beast Ganon, thrusted by thousands of years of bathed sacred power, losing the crest of Power, he dies… as the Gerudo criminal sentenced to death years in the making… not as the Demon King he was to be revived as by Demise’s curse… from there… the conflicting cycle ended… but in altered planes of existence… it either ends… or continues…

People seem to forget the cloud barrier isn't a physical barrier just a visual barrier. It simply hides the sky island from the view of the surface. We know that you can pass through the cloud barrier as we know people have fallen off of skyloft and fallen through it, additionally we get shot through it in tp by a Canon, and in mc we also go trhough the cloud barrier And so you might say we'll in ss we need to make holes in the barrier to pass theough but actually it's to know where he has to go next and also because specifically loft wings refuse to get near the cloud barrier.

Concerning the Bubbul Frogs and Satori. Bubbul Frogs feature 4 sets of eyes/4 faces where as Satori only features 2 sets of eyes/faces. What if a Satori is the ultimate goal for any Rumi to reach, by fusing with one other Rumi. And sometimes they don't reach that goal and instead 4 Rumi fuse together, creating something that shouldn't be, so Satori wants you to get rid of them. Another piece of evidence would be the fact that after defeating a Bubbul Frog they only drop a Bubbul Gem and 1 Rumi, but when you look at the gem it actually features protrutions that look like the antennas/antlers of the Rumi... 6 in total... so 3 pairs, making up for the missing three Rumi.

@@MoxieWatts So I took a closer look at the terms Mayoi and Satori and what they mean specifically in the context of Buddhism. Concerning Mayoi I haven't found a lot more information, except for the fact that Mayoi can also be translated as "the state of being lost" (Which is also the reason why The Lost Woods have Mayoi in their Japanese name). It gives me a sort of "lost souls" vibe... Satori guides Link, so he can help these lost souls/fused Rumi. Or maybe Satori has a more negative view towards these creatures, and it's not so much about helping them as it is about eradicating them. Concerning the term Satori I have found more though! Satori in Zen-Buddhism is not "just" understanding and enlightenment. It is an entire state of being and existing that happens very abruptly, from one second to the other after lots of preparations and time. So what you've said in your comment is very much true, a Satori essentially is "the ultimate form of spirituality". As for the Bubbul Gems, my own theory is that those gems ARE the remaining 3 Rumi that fused together irreversibly... let me explain. I think that Rumi are beings made of rupees, after all they are called Blupees ("Rumi" sounds better though and I will die on this hill xD) which is very similar to rupees. They drop rupees when you attack them and their Hyrule Compendium entry reads as follows "(...) there is one thing we do know: these peculiar little things have a penchant for collecting rupees.". I don't think they collect rupees, just for their value or magical power. They actually need them to survive and power themselves, cause they ARE rupees come to life. And in addition to that when you take a look at e.g. the German entry in the Hyrule Compendium it's phrased in a different way. Instead of "a penchant" for collecting rupees it's phrased as "irrepressible urge" to collect rupees, which sounds way more... well... urgent. But to get back to the point, because they are essentially living rupees I believe a Bubbul Gem is made up of 3 Rumi that fused together. There's not just the 6 protrutions/3 Rumi antler pairs coming out of the gem, the entire gem is also covered in the same pattern as Rumi/Satori. Unlike a normal rupee, thats just one solid colour. The number 3 is very important in Buddhism and holds a lot of different meanings (notably, only good meanings with positive connotations). What pierced my eye was the concept of "The Triple Gem" (Triratna) because of the term 'gem', as in Bubbul Gem. There are a lot more though. There's also the concept of "3 Worlds" or "3 Realms of Existence" and also "3 Bodies" (Trikaya). I think all of them could be interesting to delve deeper into! :D However, when I researched the meaning of the number 4 in Buddhism I did find a couple of concepts that are certainly not positive at all. Mainly "Four Evil Forms of Being" (Apaya) and "Four Illnesses". At least to me it's very interesting to see how the number 3 has no negative concepts attached to it (at least from my research), whereas the number 4 does have at least a couple. To sum it up, the 4th Rumi essentially brings too much unbalance to the creation process/Satori (here: the enlightenment process, not the actual Lord of the Mountain) of a new being which then results in a sort of "abomination that lost it's way", instead of proper enlightenment. There are a couple more things though that still puzzle me when it comes to Bubbul Frogs, Rumi and Satori, mainly: Bubbul Frogs ONLY appear in caves on the surface of Hyrule. It's always dark places shut off from the outside, unlike where normal Rumi and Satori reside. But I don't think that failed enlightenment process has to do with darkness necessarily, as demonstrated by the Blupee Burrow in the Depths of Hyrule. The only place in the entire Depths to feature a cherry blossom tree and obviously the burrow which usually holds 1 or 2 Rumi inside. I have never seen a single Bubbul Frog there though (might be for gameplay reasons, but I dunno). As for the different things you mentioned, I don't think they have anything to do with the Sheikah or their technology. The colours sadly don't match (one is described as light blue where as the other is a very saturated tone of blue). And concerning the scribbles on the Magic Armour and Sheikah technology, I don't see too many similarities between the patterns, or at least between the regularities in each individual pattern. But I have the same thoughts when it comes to them disappearing in thin air! I don't think it's too far fetched of an idea for Rumi to be able to jump between different realms considering they are living rupees, i.e. creatures of magical energy.

I believe the Depth skeletons are past enemy bosses from previous Zelda titles Since the Depths are a literal inverse of the surface the Serpents can play as inverses to the Leviathans In the way Leviathans are represented as benevolent spirits which aid a hero in their quest, the Serpents are to impede and destroy the Hero. In botw, the each Leviathan's fossil house a shrine, something for Link to use on his quest. In totk the the Serpent fossil's house Gloom Hands along them, something to impede and kill Link. But who the Serpents are is a bigger mystery. -Eldin's Serpent could be Volvagia being the beast was felled in the Fire Temple back in OoT -Hebra's could be Blizzargia from Tri-Froce Heroes as it was an Ice Temple of that game -Gerudo's is a bit trickier/ The first that come to mind are Molds (twinmold, Molgera) since they often hide in sand but Molds are typically more bug like that reptilian. Another creature is Stallord from TP. As it is a massive skeleton placed near a stadium like chamber right below the Arbiters ground (The TP references are stacked here) but I never thought of Stallord being serpentine which also ties into an older theory about it being the original Volvagia. Some other notes; -Though theyre all in 3 locations; all skeletons are identical down to their skulls which makes it harder to identify since it implies there are all the same species. -If they are the same species, they actually maybe some sort of mold creature as some of them appear in games 2 or 3 at a time. -If the 3 were fused together they could be a Staldra, a basic enemy type from SS, but one at this size would make it massive maybe even a King Staldra or Staldralord.

idk about the sheikah slate’s AI capabilities but it’s connected to the towers which are purpose-built to monitor hyrule (specifically for signs of ganon but my point here is that when they’re active they’re actively watching everything) so that could contribute to the AI and the towers could also house data for everything in their respective regions. as for the purah pad, i think it has knowledge on the specifics of the depths and sky as well as dungeon layouts because of mineru possessing it. cherry’s compendium stuff could just be stored data from robbie’s exploration but i don’t use it much so idk if it has sky and depths stuff in it. i remember in development there was a concept for the sheikah slate having an AI that talks to link like a companion which was scrapped

I don't have a platform of my own for this, but I feel like there's an angle we're still not considering regarding the Master Sword's breaking. Demise's consciousness was sealed in the sword back in Skyward Sword. His rancorous will has been in there for millennia, separated from the reincarnation of his malicious spirit through Ganondorf. Over all this time of Fi keeping it in check, the power of the sword is continually drained, requiring its storage between generations in sacred places and its reforging/imbuing and the blessing of sages to keep it potent... but it's never again the 'True Master Sword' once Demise's consciousness is within it. Because it's now tainted. BotW to TotK is the first time the Master Sword has not enough time to rest and recover after facing an incarnation of Ganondorf/Demise. It's weak, and like the One Ring, the consciousness within it continues to seek its latest vessel. Finding the desiccated husk of Ganondorf under the castle, where he has stayed for 10,000 years gathering malice and infusing with miasma, Fi is unable to maintain the blade against the will of the other consciousness within it, a consciousness which desperately wants out, and has been biding its time for time unfathomable. When Ganondorf strikes out with miasma, and Link attempts to block it with the blade, the will of Demise within the blade is emboldened, empowered, and takes its chance. Fi is without enough sacred energy to withstand an attack from without and within, and Demise bursts forth, shattering the blade. The will of Demise and the vessel of his malice are reunited. Demise might have been reborn in earnest... if it weren't for three things: * Zelda's Wisdom, in sacrificing unknown millennia to empower the Master Sword * Ganondorf's overwhelming Power, enhancing his own rancor through his Secret Stone; a will which Demise would eventually conquer, but not easily * Link's Courage in seeking him and defeating him with urgency

About 3:28 - I am wondering how you got this translation? The kanji presented does mean mystery or riddle, but it's usually transliterated as 'nazo'. Slap an honorific o- prefix (as used in oneesan, okami, etc.) and you get onazo. The letters here are actually grouped like o-na-zo, so in reverse you get 'zonao'. That's the only way I can imagine you got from Zonai to that kanji to Zonao. Some online dictionaries will say 'zonao' translates to 'mysterious' in english, but I haven't been able to find a corroborating source with context. But my Japanese is really rusty, so maybe I'm just missing pieces here.

The architecture of the Great Plateau could be the fact that after islands were raised into the skies that some of that original architecture broke off. The Temple of Time from GSI doesn't place itself directly on top of Great Plateau, but more eastward, the Great Plateau use to be much bigger landmass. The stone structures used on Great Plateau probably had to of come from elsewhere to repair the damaged stone structures as they didn't have access to the pearly smooth white stones of the Zonai structures, and quite possibly those stones came from The Depths which Hylians didn't have access to by any normal means such as natural normal openings that leads to The Depths much like that of Tobio's Hollow Chasm which opens up with a floating Zonai elevator system built by Mineru, since that place was closed off Hylians would of had no other access points to The Depths, as the other chasms we find in TotK aren't natural formations, but as a result of the upheaval which opened them, much like that of how sinkholes form because weakened ground structure and erosion. The chasms found at Yiga's Hideout, and where the Sheikah Towet in Gerudo would be a natural formation most likely also, but around where the tower use to be was all excavated also. Perhaps after the sky islands were raised into the sky they sought to cover up the existence of the Zonai, hence different structural changes to architecture as a means to keep their secrets hidden from those who may be tempted to find Zonai technology and use it for nefarious purposes, much like how Master Kogha used Zonai tech to build things.

I always assumed that the Purah Pad was able to name exact locations and map as accurately as possible because Mineru's spirit is housed within the pad, per the Tears cutscenes, especially the one showing Mineru's spirit literally entering the pad before being given to the construct by Zelda to hand over to Link. Who's to say Mineru was not able to know the lands as they were and help fill in any information gaps in the Purah Pad???

On the note about the purah pad and AI. First the obvious answer, it's a game mechanic, so don't examine it too closely. Secondly, and more importantly, why does an AI need to be trained? Real life versions of artificial intelligence need training, sure, but why are we applying modern restrictions on the world of the legend of Zelda? The bots from skyward sword were created in ages long past, either by the dragons or a civilization so advanced they figured out how to manipulate time itself, which is beyond our modern real life comprehension. For all we know, they could be tapping into something akin to Plato's world of forms, with a metaphysical compendium of everything that could ever possibly exist and deriving current interpretations of that information based on its programming. Thirdly though, link could be the one entering names into the sheikah slate/purah pad database based on what he knows. After all the names of things don't appear until link/the player discovers them and/or takes pictures of them. It may happen "off screen" but honestly it makes sense. Rather than an AI interpreting what it sees, it's just link imposing his own world views and knowledge on the data gathered by the devices he uses.

Regarding how the Gloom was able to decay the Master Sword so easily, I think part of the reason is that, for thousands of years, Ganondorf had been preparing the Gloom *for that specific purpose*. Rauru, as he was sealing Ganondorf, told the Demon King that in the future, a hero called Link would come to defeat Ganondorf with the Sword that Seals the Darkness. Thus Ganondorf knows that the thing he most needs to be concerned about is a sword, and he also knows he has thousands of years to prepare a defence against it. Observe how, as the Gloom spread across the whole kingdom, it seemed to target specifically *weapons* , causing all weapons to decay. It didn't decay metal specifically, because it didn't decay metal objects other than weapons, and it *did* decay non-metal weapons such as the Korok weapons. It targeted specifically weapons, regardless of their material. So I think this is because Ganondorf created the Gloom specifically to target weapons, and the Master Sword above all else, because he had been warned about it by Rauru thousands of years ago, and he had time to prepare.

Hey Moxie, good video. You were asking about the Bubbel Frogs and I think you are on the right track. When I did my research on them for my mystery video, I played with the idea of corruption and influence from humanity and the natural order being disturbed. We see this in a lot of Studio Ghibli work, and in Princess Monokee specifically, we see how spirits become corrupted and disfigured. I think it is likely that is what is happening here with Blupees, however, you raise an interesting point. I didn't realize that Satori's name was directly opposed to the Frogs, I thought Satori was just a name, and we all know who that name came from. Anyhow, it could be that the Bubblefrogs are stuck in a state, and have reached some sort of dead end on the path to enlightenment. Satori as encouraging Link to go and, um... let's say "Restart their path". We see the Frog revert to the far more adorable Blupee as a result. As for what the Bubbelgem itself is. I honestly don't know, but given its shape is similar to Ruppee... perhaps it is related to how the Blupee's drop Rupees when hit. I think it was Hyrule Gamer who speculated that they might have Rupee Guard, similar to how Link gains armor in several games that convert damage to Rupees. Well, there are my 2 cents on the matter.

I'm of the mind that ToTK takes place at the end of the timeline, including it's Past segments. Simply because of the existence of Rito in its Past, as Rito were never brought about, until Wind Waker, when Hyrule was flooded, and Zora couldn't handle the Salt Water environment, so the island Patron Valoo blesses them with this Rito transformation. Now, OTHER Zora DO exist in BoTW and ToTK, which can be explained as they came from another land, outside Hyrule proper. We do know of two distinct races of Zora; the regular Zora (I call Lake Zora), and the River Zora. During the flooding, Lake Zora are changed into Rito, and the River Zora just stayed in their Domain outside Hyrule. After the flooding, River Zora travelled to Hyrule, starting a new Domain in Hyrule, as we know them in BoTW. And in ToTK we get, basically, confirmation of this with the Green Zora person (not describing more about them as potential spoils). My grand theory, is that BoTW and ToTK (as well as a third unarmed title, to balance the "rule of 3" prevalent throughout these titles; I'm dubbing 'Wrath of The Demon King') all take place on a separate, unified timeline. It is in THIS game, ToTK when the timelines converge into this amalgamation of all main timelines we see. Through Zelda's excursions, the thing she does fuses the timelines together (in some way, haven't figured that part out yet, lol). Because of what she did, the three main timelines melded together, giving us Beasts from a time that should not exist, a Hyrule flooded where Beasts existed otherwise. Two major contradictions, seemingly existing in one timeline (Rock Salt wouldn't be so pervasive around Hyrule, if it wasn't flooded, and we see Lynels exist). It is clear, a convergence or melding of the timelines occured before BoTW (and presumably ToTK, because Rito). Nonetheless, we may have to wait for the final entry, to piece everything together properly. For now it's HEAVY speculation and theorizing, lol. (Not trying to say a third title is guaranteed, but seems VERY likely, given the story beats still left WIDE open in ToTK, some that remain from BoTW) EDIT: Because I wanted to show a connection I was making that helped me come to the conclusion of a third title. BoTW is symbolized by its Blue motif (Wisdom). ToTK is symbolized by its Green motif (Courage). Why not finish of the trio with a third title.. WoTDK, symbolized by its Red motif (Power)

As soon as i saw the sword break, i started to think it was most likely related to links vitality. The first strike against the gloom/miasma didn't break the sword. It was perfectly fine. It was only after link lost his strength, that the master sword struggled to repel the gloom on its physical blade, something that would be inconceivable in a previous zelda game(e.x. Twilight princess master sword just flaring up in the presence of zant's dark crystal, and reverting link to human form.) It's quite possible that regular master sword would have been enough to finish ganondorf before he gained full power, had link brought a GODDAMN SHIELD.

Phantom Ganon - was banished to the gap between realms - "Hey kid, you did quite well... It looks like you may be gaining some slight skill... But you have defeated only my phantom... When you fight the real me, it won't be so easy! What a worthless creation that ghost was! I will banish it to the gap between dimensions!!" - Ganondorf, OoT. His armour set now split with the 3 Timelines connected by his shadow banishment (think the fspace bwteen 2d to 3d painted world in ALBW) but is then echoed in the 3 layers of TOTK (Depths mirror terrain of Hyrule overworld). But there's more to what I think has caused the depths... Rito - I touch on this on a vid ("The Skyward Sword Clues for Tears of the Kingdom (Zelda Theory)". 3 part answer: #Part 1 - Zelda Encyclopedia - check out pg 68 - the Knights crest - Zelda Encyclopedia describes them as “bird-like Hyruleans” with roots linking them to the Zora from Ocarina of Time and evolving to the Rito following the great flood which submerged Hyrule under the sea in the Adult Timeline. The book goes on to state the Rito are not born with the ability to fly and that only when they have proven themselves as adults can they receive a scale from their Guardian Deity, Valoo, and obtain their wings. #Part 2 - Creating a Champion - describing the Rito as having ‘powerful winged arms’ which has helped them earn the reputation as ‘rulers of the sky’. Developer Notes on page 129 from artist Hirohito Shinoda confirm the appearance has changed dramatically, to emphasise their unique characteristics as a race. Page 130 goes even further, stating the Rito to be “a combination of the traits of birds and Hylians” and that they prefer to eat meat or fish, similar to what you would see in typical birds of prey. This description is contrary to that provided in the Rito we see in The Wind Waker and makes no reference to a lineage of evolution from the Zora. The Rito we see in-game during BOTW are capable of flight soon after birth, as evidenced in the shrine quest, “Recital at Warbler’s Nest”. #Part 3 - Hyrule Historia - concept art for the inhabitants of Skyloft, artists make reference to how they approached the style of the Hylian inhabitants of this floating haven. In particular, they describe how they assigned bird-like characteristics to each individual, with some specific examples noticeable in-game. A quote is provided from designer, Hirono, which states: “In the beginning it was decided that all residents of Skyloft would be modelled after birds. That’s where the idea to give Henya a rooster’s body came from. Groose’s pointy hairstyle was inspired by a rooster’s comb. Owlan’s and Horwell’s designs were based on the Rito tribe from The Wind Waker.” The end of Skyward Sword indicates that Zelda and Link have chosen to live on the surface of Hyrule, but it doesn’t confirm the choices of all the inhabitants in Skyloft nor what happens to Skyloft itself. In this scenario, it becomes reasonable to assume that if some Hylians chose to stay on Skyloft, high above the clouds, that the natural course of evolution already apparent in the bird-like features of some of the residents, would continue. That eventually, these Hylians may have evolved into “Bird-like Hylians”, such as the Rito we see in Breath of the Wild. In fact, the Rito Crest bears a striking resemblance to a combination of the top of the Hylian crest (the bird claw) worn by Gaepora and the bottom of the crest from Karame. Going further, this concept would explain how the Rito came to exist in the same Hyrule that contains a race of Zora 💚💚🌟🌟♾🐲

Sword is able to be broken because it has not been reivigorated by Light Power proper in a Hyrule where the Blood Moon has gained increasing capacity and velocity acting to "dampen" the pure light energy within Hyrule and Zelda was amassed in battle with Calamity Ganon for 100 years. Zelda notes she cannot hear Fi at the conclusion of BOTW...she has exhausted her light energy and although they place it with the Deku Tree, it has not received Light Energy ("Light Force") from Hylia and the Dragons have not imbued a sacred flame. Moreover, the sword has not undergone a purification / rebirth in what could only be considered an age, but has been constantly battered. The image of the blade, chipped and battered as iconic to the pre-launch of BOTW acted to herald this very concept - We were in a Hyrule flumg far into the chronology that the blade had lost it's lustre - Meanwhile Ganondorf was gaining more potency with malice - as each "monster" is bested, and then brought back to life, it eventually starts to resent it's torment of being unable to escape death - it builds malice and hatred against it's own fate aiding to feed more consumption of the malice to higher potency, and even semblance of intelligence and formation of organic growth - it was evolving and growing stronger - the embodiment of the curse of Demise signalled by the pools of malice under the Ancient Cistern which existed in "Present Day" Hyrule; meaning - just as Zelda was always in the Amber crystal, so to had Link already been destined to defeat Demise as indeed his very hatred and malice was actively restoring the life of the cursed nokonlins - "This horrifying Bokoblin reanimates after death. Analysis indicates it fears pure, shiny items and will startle at the sight of a sacred shield. It is able to reanimate purely through its hatred of this world...and its attachment to outlandish undergarments." - Fi. Demise's incarnation of malice in Ganonforf's gloom has leverage Demise's forte as a being said to have conquered time to build his army of monsters, fueling it's growth in an unholy reincarnation of the dead via the blood moon, foreshadowed in the concept art in Hyrule Historia which features Demise against a blood moon oobject and disc shape wiht the same colouration and implication. Funnily enough, the sealing grounds are also setup in a winding spiral shape, and were meant to feature torrii style gate impediments

The stormwind ark made me wonder if the cloud barrier was created and maintained by a machine, and if the old lanayru mining facility was either the place the original cloud barrier machine was made OR if the facility was created to manufacture the parts needed to repair the cloud barrier machine OR the "god" (alien) needed parts to repair his vehicle (spaceship) . (Several theories here, each more crackpot than the last) *Its possible the god that fell from the sky was part of the "maintenance crew" and there was some accident or malfunction leading to his crashing to the surface, that would also explain the winds, bad weather and how the ship would be able to pass through the barrier. *could it be possible the "god that fell" actually crashed his vehicle? Upon seeing that the technology and materials to repair it weren't available came up with the only plan he could think of to get back home. With help from the rito and using the parts of his crashed ship, one being a timeshift stone, and using the ai and helper constructs that survived the crash he was able to travel to the very distant past. While there he gave the constructs a task, make enough copies of themselves to be to able to mine materials and produce the parts needed for the vehicle, along with where and how to store them. Immediately upon returning to the present, and again with help from the rito, they were able to retrieve the stored materials and construct a new vehicle. That would explain the visual similarities between the lanayru mining facility and the debris, ruins, and stormwind ark. Crazy stuff, i know. **blupees are the perfect, enlightened version of spirits. Bubbul frogs are what happens to the same spirits that cant let go of something from the past, bubbul gems are a magical manifestation of those feelings, or rather a physical representation that can be symbolically "let go" allowing the true form to fully manifest. On a different note, i used four small wheels, a sled, and a steering stick to make an elevator for the labyrinths. I found an alcove like area along the outer walls and laid the sled sideways then attached the wheels facing up, two on each side, with the wheels against the wall. Then put the steering stick in the center, facing one set of wheels. Using the stick to keep the elevator balanced and staying in the slot. Its easier to have the stick sideways, so that left or right keeps it in the slot, and backward or forward keeps the wheels on either side moving at the same pace. I always enjoy your videos and have lots to think about both during and after. Thank you Moxie.

Regarding Satori and Mayoi. While this was expanded as lore in TotK I strongly believe the original inclusion of Satori Mountain and Satori is a play on the name Satoru Iwata. SatorIwata, and its description is of something that metaphorically matches the late Nintendo president who passed away in the final year of this game's development.

How I see the master sword based on all the games The sword is often referred to as "the sword which seals the darkness", what else in the Zelda universe seals the darkness? Sacred power, often shown a white/yellow light. What in the Zelda universe has the capability of creating sacred power? - The Gods - Zelda - The sages together - Lower deities such as the great deku tree - (Possibly) The sage of light alone - All living beings contain a small amount of sacred force/light force All of these things have been shown to repair, strengthen or entirely restore the master sword at some point in the series. So what "is" the master sword? It's a storage vessel for sacred power in the form of a sword. When the sword is low on sacred power, it's becomes more brittle and weak - it becomes a more normal sword. When it's full of sacred power, it's stronger and in the presence of evil it begins to glow with sacred power. The material itself is made of sacred power, it's why the statues can generate goddess swords and also why the weakened form can still damage evil (e.g. ganondorf at the start of TotK). Then the question still remains - why does it break at the start of TotK? The sword had just depleted all the sacred power destroying calamity ganon, it had no time to recover in the lost woods by the power of the deku tree and was brittle. Ganondorfs gloom is a concentrated form of darkness and easily broke the blade in it's weakened form. After being inside zeldragon for ??? years, it was breaming with sacred power again and had no problem destroying ganondorf. TLDR - The master sword works on a sacred power battery system, destroying evil diminishes the power and sacred power sources charge it

@@MoxieWatts 🕵 like 20 years of being a solid zelda nerd has paid off I've got all sorts of theories around this idea, some of them crack pot af - Light sages are sacred power sages, that is what light energy is and why they are more rare - The temple of time being linked to the temple of light via the master sword pedestal is because it needs a direct connection for charging - In most games, the pedestal is still connected to the light temple, even if the temple of time has fallen apart, often these pedestals are inside the "sacred grove", it's sacred because of the connection to the temple of light via the pedestal providing sacred power to the area - The temple of light exists from skyward sword, preparing for the master sword to be placed in the pedestal outside the gate of time, when link first thrusts the sword into the pedestal the light energy explodes out of the pedestal as the connection is made - WindWakers master sword is NOT in the same pedestal, it's in the castle instead and that's why it has no sacred power. It needs charging which is why the sages are required - The master sword quest in skyward sword is about filling the sword with sacred power for the first time. The three flames are just filling the blade with each component of the "white" light sacred power. Once the last flame is added, the sword *is the master sword* but it's not full of sacred power until Zelda/Hylia adds additional power to it. - Powerful time magic requires sacred magic. (This could be a whole sub-theory lmao) but basically every example of "strong" time magic involves some sacred power source. - - Temple of time requires the master sword to move people through time - - Gates of time seem to work for Zelda, but Link needs the full master sword to use the second one (e.g. it needs to contain enough sacred power) - - Majoras Mask link *has the triforce of courage* (I think?) So he can travel through time using the ocarina - - Wind Waker shows the master sword sealing time until Link draws the sword from the pedestal, removing the seal. I think the sacred power is being drained to keep time kept in place but as the power diminishes so does the seal and Ganondorf gains power as this happens - - Clear exceptions: Timeshift Stones, Sage of Time Recall ability Super crack pot theories: - The hero of time didn't need to wait until he was 16 to wield the blade, for some reason the sword was not ready to face Ganon with the triforce of power and Raaru made the decision to keep Link there until the sword had charged to a suitable state - Zeldragon is the source of the sacred power which triggers the master sword recall at the start of TotK, that's why she is flying around the sky islands at the start of the game. She needs to ensure the sword is sent back in time otherwise she wouldn't exist

for the mastersword breaking, i think it was a combination of Ganondorf having prepared the gloom specifically for breaking the master sword like someone else said, Link being caught off guard, the master sword's power being diminished after hundreds of thousands of years (it has been shown to enter a slumbering state before), the power of Ganondorf's secret stone, Demise's consciousness still inside the sword, and the sword's link to, well Link.

Is it possible Link is just naming the map locations himself as he arrives based on whatever criteria he feels like using? While the location names are often cryptic, none of them suggest any information you couldn't assume (or make up) based on exploring then for five minutes with a modest amount of Hyrule history under your belt. Maybe he's just naming the lightroots after his pet ants from his ant farm.

Excellent video as always. One quick thing to note - the Japanese you placed above mayoi is actually "otoshi mono," which would be a drop, not mayoi. Mayoi with kanji would be 迷い, but based on the screens you have from the Japanese version of the game, it appears to be written in katakana as マヨイ. This could be because it's referring to a creature as opposed to the actual concept of "mayoi." Hope that helps!

24:39 - I'm pretty sure the "mayoi" the bubbul frogs and Lost Woods aren't just referring to the 'doubt'/'hesitation' spelling of the word, but rather the 'lost' (迷う; "mayo") spelling (to "get lost", or lose one's way, also a root that can be extended into さ迷う; "samayo" - to 'wander'). Japan's big on wordplay, which adds another layer to the bubbul frog because it's even a frog to begin with. While they don't call them frogs in Japanese, the word for frog "kaeru" (蛙) is another homophone for the phrase to 'go home'/'go back'/'return' "kaeru" (帰る). So defeating a bubbul frog is a fairly literal act of helping a lost soul back onto the path of enlightenment so they can potentially become a Satori by ridding them of the impurity that made them lose their way.

The sky islands really remind me of the Drablands. Also botw hyrule and TotK Lorule… The similarities are there! I was reading the encyclopedia and it got me thinking. Could Zelda have made a wish to seal calamity Ganon in botw with the triforce, then since it would be gone that caused the whole onset of Ganondorf becoming unsealed, and gloom taking over the world and turning animals and such into monsters. Idk it’s a stretch but botw and TotK hyrule are very similar but also very different, just like a link between worlds and a link to the past. Lorule was taken over by gloom…. And so on. It’s all in the encyclopedia if you’d like to fully read into what I’m talking about.

1. I personally think this is one of those things where Nintendo didn't think as hard as the fans when placing the phantom Ganon armour here but for the sake of devil's advocate - under the questionable assumption that the past that Zelda goes to is somewhat of a retcon of OoT, my personal headcanon for the hero of time was that along with MM that the Oracle games & Awakening are adventures of his too which is relevant for this because what if the Oracle's were Zonai and given child link wouldn't have defeated the phantom Ganon of his future yet what if the Oracle's ended up having to become the spirit dragons through dragonification & sealed the parts of the armour in their respective mazes. - a less fun but more possible answer is there were three main tribes representing boars, dragons & owls on the Zonai era each having a maze as a coming of age trial that also served to seal the phantom Ganon 2. I mean Koga is a mad man who as far as I can tell is as old as link, Zelda, Robbie & purah should be if AoC is out to go by he also shares alot of powers with Kosha including the secret technique, as for recognising the purah pad I wouldn't be surprised if there were Zonai notes on it since Zelda let Mineru study it, or he thinks it's the shiekah slate 3. I think the purah pad (using computer learning) or link names the locations because tarry town definitely didn't exist at the time of the depths creation and unlikely the Kara Kara Bazaar did yet both are used to name the areas below 4. I couldn't begin to have a full head canon for the Rito origin however I believe the Rito have always been a race with a connection to the wind and that the glide set you get from dive challenges are the garments of pre-avian Rito(I mean imagine that suit, a sail cloth or glider & a pair of hook shots you'd be like a race of hyrulean Spider-Men)and the god that saved them is what made them what they are today in a similar way to Valoo in WW but under different circumstances (it would be nice for the Rito to get a patron deity of their own even if colghera of the ancient past killed it) 5. My personal headcanon for the great Plateau is that it switched places with the lost woods as it's the only way I can reconcile how the lost woods got up north without any trace of the forest growing and dying over time, along with it having OoT's temple of time on it that would make more sense to the north of castle town & if we remember the adult timeline in OoT the entire castle does get removed in favour of a tower and lava which looking at the floating castle could be this Ganondorfs end goal what I'm saying is hyrule's a jigsaw with extra steps 😆 6. Bubblefrogs are perhaps followers of Satori that have been warped by doubt and slaying the bubblefrogs is a form of purifying them retuning them to their original state (side note while watching, satori being a reincarnated sage and the barginer statues along with the amount of barginer statues all having four eyes perhaps there's more to be connected there) .7 i don't know what to add to the skeleton mystery .8 possible however I think it's more of a fact that as you say the Master sword does grow weaker between centuries (perhaps more if you take into account the amount of times the royal family or the shiekah or whoever think they have a better idea then the chosen 10 -17 year old with the spirit of the hero who then has to fix the mess they make on top of fighting Denise's incarnation of hatred) and ontop of that both the calamity Ganon & zonai era Ganondorf if they're not one in the same both had extra time to become beyond the power level they'd have on a usual 100 year break given Calamity Ganon had given up on reincarnation and just existed as energy at that point and ZGanondorf had been accumulating power and hatred for atleast ten thousand years maybe more becoming more and more in tune with the crystallised evil/Curse/Malice/Gloom energies so while his physical form would still be vunerable to the sword of evils bane, that particular Master sword had been put through the ringer during the AoC being the most damaged we've seen it, not even getting to finish that Ganon before needing to rest 100 years to then only have a 3-4 year "break" of recharge before having to fight a Ganondorf at literally 100 X the power level the master sword would be at on a good day If you've read all this I'm sorry but also thankyou for letting me use my theory brain 😆

I took the labyrinths as being a set of challenges designed not for Link specifically, but for anyone who would be the reincarnation of the ancient hero, as I believe the Lomei to be another species of ancient hyrule that, other than the ancient hero himself, weve never seen before. Some of those statues we see in the depths look like something completely new, to me at least. I dont have an explaination for why the armor is there, but the ancient hero is actually wearing three symbols representing the three animals the labyrinths depict. Whatever this species was i believe the first ancient hero was originally from their species. We never see a warrior wielding the master sword in the past during Raurus time period, so perhaps they were introduced to the other species after Mineru and her brother had already passed. I assume this species eventually died out, maybe with one of these heroes being the last survivor, and as a sort of backup plan the goddess Hylia intervened and with the other three goddesses they somehow passed on the reincarnation to the Hylians since they still needed one and had no othet choice.

For the master sword breaking, i seem to recall something about the blessings and powers it's been granted being mentioned to simply be... _fading_ over time, requiring to be renewed every so often. Can't recall where from though sadly. Maybe she expends all her energy from the upgrades to see the big threat defeated. Maybe keeping the seal on Demise puts a continuous drain on Fi and therefore the sword causing the need for her to recharge more often, and if we go in that vein: Perhaps Demise's power is still steadily growing while sealed, like ganondorf's was, and it takes more and more of Fi's strength to maintain the seal and that's why the master sword breaks so easily by now? I mean seriously, how _old_ would the master sword even be by now? _Eons?_ And she's specifically been keeping Demise (or his 'essence') *sealed* within the master sword during all that time. Honestly i'm surprised she hasn't broken more yet by now; Fi is one though lady. Definitely one of the most _reliable_ holy relics ever crafted.
