As a 25+ year experienced commercial diver in the Gulf of Mexico it pains me to see morons do stupid things like this. Risking serious injury to personnel and possible entanglement issues with their mechanical systems (screw/props) borders on malfeasance. In addition to not check weather/sea reports before departure absolutely abhorrent. The amount of ignorance in this mission is staggering.

I have heard from a now retired USN sonar operator. From what he told me, the oceans are blanketed with USO's zipping around everywhere. I was pleased to hear from him, in particular, because the USA has long maintained a SOSUS surveillance system around the Atlantic Ocean, for a fact. He would hear these objects travelling at impossible speeds at every location he was stationed in. Usually, it seems the locals would advise the incoming people about the to be expected USO disturbances, and the radar guys of the expected radar signals. It is a dangerous game. If anyone were to mistake one of these signal for a missile attack, well....... He is just the type of guy who should come forward at a Congressional hearing with whistleblower protection. We really have so much more to learn, once the Pentagon gets out of our way.
