Well, maybe not so "mysterious"...but it illustrates an issue string pinsetter centers may need to deal with if they wish to offer league play.

Should be considered a separate sport.

With all the lighting fiasco, string bowling can only be classified as something you do for a company outing or flat out drunken buddy hook up. No sport tag necessary or allowed.

Have to be honest....the lighting makes it more difficult. Didn't mind the strings so much, but the lighting made it hard to see the dots and arrows, so finding an aiming point wasn't easy.

Fine for open bowlers who care more about their $15 drink and $25 quesadillas. Or a kids birthday party. This should never be a thing in sanctioned leagues! I know 5-pin and duckpin use strings in most of their houses but I'm not a fan of it for those variants either!

Looks like, maybe the ball hit a pin as it rolled to the right and the string from it pulled the 9 down. There is a bowling alley near me that uses this system. I don't like it. The pins behave differently. Especially for me as I basically use a lot of power and a heavy ball. I depend on the pens flying around a lot. But, my wife doesn't like it either. I've read tests in which they are supposed to produce similar scores for amateurs and very marginally lower scores for pros. I am not so sure, but I do not like it. The pin action is so different. I did find this just now as I wanted to refresh my memory on what I read about it. "The USBC, in research using a robotic bowling arm named Earl, found that string pins yield nearly 7% fewer strikes, more spares and a preponderance of oddball splits compared with free-falling pins."

Agreed. String pins are no fun at all, they remove all the fundamental needed to knock over the 10 pins, messengers…. Gonna miss those. But hey, even IF string pins get popular. I guess it’s the evolution of the sport, not saying it’s necessarily for the better but sometimes if that’s what happens we have to accept right? If we wanna continue bowling….

The only way a string pinsetter is going to work for bowling the honest way is if they make it possible for the bowler to tell the machine to put back the pins that falsely fall. Otherwise it’s an arcade game.

That's why it shouldn't be approved. Sucks

The pins do not even sound right. I think string pins are good solution for bars, entertainment attractions, and college campuses. They should not be allowed for USBC leagues or tournaments and legitimate bowling centers. I'm worried that Bowlero is going to make their centers all string pins to save money at some point.

Right on about Bowlero. They will ruin the sport of bowling if they do. Also, their price per game will not go down just like the food and beverage robbery.

It’s synthetic pins. But yeah bowling is going downhill from here.
