Goblin valley is especially magical during and right after a rain storm...or through the night on a full moon...no lights!

Thank you for these amazing videos! Reminds us of just how vast and ancient the interior is of North America (and in Goblin Valley, sometimes vast and bulbous).

I always knew Ship Rock was a volcanic formation, but what your video appears to show in addition to magma is sandstone rock with bedding planes at the top of the structure ..... was this rock that was pushed up by the magma underneath or is it some kind of strange weathering that gives the appearance of sedimentary rock at the top?

Some information on the formation of Shiprock just showed up on Geology Hub. Very interesting.
@whooshr5588

This drone footage is of Goblin Valley in Utah. The ‘goblins’ are comprised of sedimentary rock, primarily sandstone. So, yes, what you’ve identified is sedimentary rock. Completely different from the volcanic rock plug that is Shiprock in NM.
@dronebastard1049
@dronebastard1049 Жыл бұрын
Hmmm... not sure. On the Shiprock video you're referring to, there are a lot of varying opinions on how it was formed. Some say it's rock or lava, while others say it's a giant tree stump, a castle, a melted building, or even a spaceship! I tend to lean on geology, but I'm fascinated & flattered that one of my videos has sparked a conversation and provoked thought! ☺☺☺☺☺ Thank you for watching both!

Has the area been opened to ATVs & rock crawlers yet? It would be a shame to deprive them.
@ericswain4177
@ericswain4177 Жыл бұрын
Hope not ! As much as I like ATVs & rock crawlers. If they do only to a very restricted designated area out and away from the rest, ATVs & rock crawlers destroy the natural landscape and are noisy.

terrible idea. it should be closed to all mechanical conveyances....and dogs.
@whooshr5588
@whooshr5588 Жыл бұрын
No, thank God! Who would it be a shame to ‘deprive’? You want rock crawlers to climb on these miracles of nature? What are you smokin’? And, “yet”? Like some people have been awaiting the moment the government woke up and FINALLY allowed four wheeled machines to grind these wonders to dust??
@lindaj5492
@lindaj5492 Жыл бұрын
Sarcasm, right? I hope so 🙏 Landscapes like this have taken millions of years to erode from the original sedimentary layers - I think probably from the vast inland sea that once covered a lot of the interior of the continent. Shaped by wind and water, molecule by molecule. They are National - no, global treasures. And like the ancient Nazca lines they can be destroyed by just one selfish, thoughtless, fun-seeker.

@@lindaj5492 Yes. Sarcasm. Because you know some motor clubs will complain that they’re being discriminated against or that their rights are being infringed.
