I’m just a hobbyist but I love horsepower. I bought a 585 and immediately installed a 592 piston/cylinder. Stock squish because I didn’t want a it any harder to start and just smoothed out the exhaust port and the “lip” at the port opening blended out and I’m very happy with it. It’s great on fuel and the new stainless muffler sounds awesome stock, for what that’s worth. It really brings me joy. Just wish they did the captured nuts on the west coast clutch cover. Love the videos as always!

Stihl not doing too bad considering it's giving the Husky (592?) a 12cc (13% capacity) advantage. Here in Europe where the Stihl was developed and first introduced long bars and semi or full skip chains are rarer and 3/8th's 0.063'' full house chains are the norm. For us a 500I is often the next step up from a Stihl MS361/362 and often the biggest saw in the back of the truck. However, we are seldom felling really large timber and when we get the chance we are more likely to create a front cut (mouth or gob as they are known colloquially) with a compound cut and fan cut the interior from the front rather than reach for a seldom used 90 class saw. There are now a few mods for the Stihl anti-vibe but our legislation for H.A.V. (hand arm vibration) exposure times are regulated and fairly strictly enforced for on-the-books employees so the softer saw allows longer work durations. Over here 500I's are generally offered for sale with 20 or 25'' bars and at today's exchange rate are sold at $1,500 US (taxes included) for the 25'' variant. I hope these few words are somewhat informative for you.

lld hi. Okay, thank you. Here is my take on it - 92.7 (rounding) vs 79.2 (also rounding) is 13.5 cc. I came up with a 14.6 (that rounding thing again) % differential. With all that, not to shabby for the 5ooi. But, having saw tested a fair amount over the years, a "hp" doesn't really get you that much less time in a 24" cut. We have a few different names for things over on the the West Coast. Like, gut, or gutting, out the heart wood. Long bars are a must on Steep ground. More so to get 'em bucked than anything else. For instance, I've seen where you can get a tree down with a 36. Takes a 50, or maybe a 60 to get a log or two off. I talk (email mostly) to my buddy Dave in Ireland. He has clued me in on a few items "Europe". Seem like your EUOSHA has a strangle hold on the process. Even greater than what we deal with over here. Loose saws wander on bias cuts when the handle, on either side, gets pushed off. Like a root flare. Bias - like with an overhand or farmer's face. Colloquially in this neck of the woods... Or the downward slanted new age Humboldt. New age because all the oldtimers know differently. Whereas, a true Humboldt is made with two flat, parallel cuts for the undercut. And then a snipe, or scarf, or maybe both. I hear it referred to as a block cut as well. Pardon the digression. It would take a hands on operation in the right conditions for someone to understand the "wander" point I make. I do have a solution for that problem. Stay tuned. Lol. Thanks for watching.

Hi Jack Nice review my personal opinion on the Husqvarna 592 xp I’m a little disappointed with few things. 1st the filter that is a big failure compared to the old school 395 base doesn’t seal very well lit crap inside carb . 2nd factory felling dogs not a fan of compared to 395 are stronger. 3rd power of the 592 xp seems a bit strange I’m not used to compared to my 395 feels like has more down low torque whereas 592 is more of an top end screamer like you said it’s a smog saw ( EPA ) The 592 is a bit lighter than 395 not a big deal of difference for me. I would probably sell my 592 before 395 which has proven be a reliable work saw over the years.
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 Жыл бұрын
Tony hi. I think that (your) filter is at least the 3rd rendition of rubber compound on the sealing lip. I had an original initially. Part way through testing they sent me a couple more. The initial filter really let the fines past. 2nd & 3rd did a better job. Husqvarna, since ~ the early 80s, has been "lagging" in the LW arena. The 2100 a game changer for falling old growth when compared to the comparable Stihl saws of that time. The 181 was cutting edge with the liberal use of plastics parts. Since then, it been less displacement with equal or even more weight for the Swedes. On the other side of that, and imho, the 462 is a fuzz to light. To nose heavy with even a LW 32" Stihl bar on it for my liking.They will fall off the log if left idling. It's on a video or two on this channel. Dawgs are an interesting concept. At some point (pun intended) you will see a set a that actually work in a West Coast application. The "cab forward" position on the drive side tube is to my liking for sure. Allows for micro placement of the tip. I can prolly pick ur nose with a 42" lol. The transition from the top tube to the pto side tube absolutely sucks. What can a guy say. The 592s do run good. But it's just like the comment I made in early 2020 about the 5ooi. I went on record saying that the 5ooi would be lagging behind my "481" (or any great running 461 that I built) if it was designed like a 462. The 5ooi saws are technically a 1 series smog saw. The stratification process is using exhaust rather than raw air. In the end, they do not overpower a 461 on steroids. I have said the same of the 395 vs 592. The 395 is hard to beat in the raw power department of the current heap of saws providing the tuner knows their business. The 592s run "on the pipe" for sure. But like the 461 vs 5ooi, where both are 1 series smog saws, the 395 an "old skool" muscle mo-chine and is going to come out on top. Well at least when I do one up. Thanks for watching.

@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 Жыл бұрын
I'm sure a saw like that would run great & have a lot of power. But,,, you couldn't pack enough fuel to get a day in... 5ooi, 20/25 minutes a tank. And that's in stock form. The operator is spending way to much time chasing their camp. You are not getting wood down constantly headed to and fro, along with the time involved fueling it. This 592xp did pretty "goodly" in the fuel consumption department and it had great power for a stock saw. My 461, with more power than the very best running 5ooi, gets 45/50 minutes between fill-ups. I've felled & buck over 40K many days on 1.25 gallons of gas. So as a bushler, I'm not running a 5ooi while trying to get anything done. Buy that's just me. Thanks for watching.

@@hotsaws101 yes I couldn't agree more on the fuel issue! Same as a fuel injected dirt bike they drink the juice compared to a carby bike! And like you said in a production setting fueling up all day isn't practical. I've noticed this myself too and went back to my 660 for better fuel consumption. I mainly keep the 500i for residential work blocking down trees. I only run stock saws here in Australia because of the hard woods the chain goes dull quick. So I find stock better on dirty hard woods and keep a few ported saws when I get green hard woods and large pine tree removal jobs ported is the way to go! I'll be interested to see how the Auto tune 592 holds up I think the Husqvarns run on the ragged edge of lean from what I've noticed. Compared to say the 500 runs a bit rich. Keep up the awesome content and work mate!

Hi Jack, well as we all know now it's a 592 XP and it should be pointed out I feel how much regard you are held in by the factory to have been involved in the real world testing and I should point out that although we "talk" quite often you kept it under wraps and not even a hint of the testing you were doing ! Now on to the saw and as several folk know I have the 585, 592 and a 500i ( prepared by you ) and have been running them for a goodly time. So much is made about the weight of the Husqvarna saws, 592 around 2lbs less than 395 585 slightly more than 390 but more power - the 500i the lightest 80cc saw although when you add in the very common WCS clutch cover etc it starts to creep up but still by far the lightest and the argument is I suppose is could Husqvarna have perhaps done more with the 585 (86cc) as it closest to the 500i in cc but they didn't and in fact it's 200g more than the 592. Just for the record the 592 a smidge lighter and smidge more powerful than 661 . As for how they run you only have to look below to see the differing views and that will always be the case, we all have differing styles of cutting, ground and timber type what I will say is the two saws shown here are at the top of there game and you'll make money with either !

Dave Halo. I do enjoy our "little talks". It was uncompromisingly noted, and I subsequently promised, to tell nobody (and you sir are definitely a somebody) that this testing was happening in my camp. Not trying to be obdurate here at all - I did weigh this mystery saw a multitude of times. Against a lot of the current factory offerings. I used the "hand-me-down" scales as well as the "good stuff" on occasion. The h-m-d scales give, at the time, relative weights. They are fairly accurate. This 592xp was a 20 pounder like clockwork. I saw 19.8 once or twice and 20.1 the same. The 395 is 21 to 21.2. It was consistently one full pound more than this mystery saw. Husky themselves have the 395 up 1.1 pounds. I have had the opportunity to weigh the retail version of the 592 as well. 20 pounds also. The 661 is around 19 pounds. 19.2 registered a few times. The one I use has some time on it with some build-up. A Maxy. That will have it a bit more mass, but it's not much. It's important to note, I'm talking powerheads that are fully fueled & oiled. I remember weighing a 385 when they 1st came into production around 20 years ago. Same time as I weighed a 660. Both brand spankin' new. The 385 was .06 of a pound more. I remember being disappointed. Husky has been lagging since they introduced the 181,,, 41 years ago... On a parts run last week, I grabbed a 390 on the self. Then, picked up a 592. There is a difference to be felt, but it is slight. The thickness of the 592 handle might be aiding the lw feel. It says .2 of a pound less for the 390 and .2 of a pound more for the 585 - as you noted the 585s added weight. Part of the 585s extra mass will be from the 2mm thicker cylinder wall due to it's smaller bore. Husky cylinders seem to weigh more than the comparable Stihl saws. That extra bulk will help with cooling to a degree. But, I digress. Agreed on the style point. Some of it is going to be the saw's ergos too. I cannot count the number of times hearing "it just feels better in my hands". It's certain saws. I know a few fallers , me included, that will one brand in one cc class and another in a higher/lower cc class range. I see a bit of that in Ireland, lol. Thanks for stopping by.

I own both saws. There is much to like about both. I do have some complaints about the 500I though. If Stihl is going to sell these for what they do, why can't they put a decent air filter on them? Also, they should re rout the intake system so that it doesn't fill the filter full of debris. My other chief complaint is the mushy suspension system. Other than that it is a ripper. I really only use the 592 for big stuff. I keep a 36" bar on it and it pulls it like it is nothing.
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 Жыл бұрын
It's to bad the 5ooi is such a fuel hogg as well. I've seen where I cannot even get 20 minutes from a tank. EUOSHA has made sure of the flimsyness of the newer crop of saws. It's only going to get "worser". In a nutshell, the operators in Europe can work longer as the vibration telescoped through the handlebars/pistol grip becomes less. Hence, the engineers are working long & hard to reduce the busyness on the hands, which in turn makes for the flexiflyer type mo-chine. Thanks for watching.

I think husky needs to rethink this saw,power is fine but the handle bar sucks and the the weight is not worth it. for the power to weigh ratio.Stihl nailed the power weight with the 500I .the handle bar is perfect ,the power to weight is sure nivce. I Bought a new Stihl 500I since my 441 blew up . A saw needs to have power balanced with weight..

By the way the filter cover has a big [STIHL ] written on it. i think it might have been a saw used by some logger. for some reason. I noticed it makes a unusual sound , idle. i didn't tried the saw, just started the engine inside the shop. Very noisy ,almost brutal at full throttle. i can have it for 450 usd. ** the shop is full of used machineds coming from who knows where, . and typically the old man makes one machine with three..
