So I was at an art museum when this statue reminded me of a scene in the trailer of CMBYN. I was listening to Mystery of Love last night and there were lyrics that said "Like Hephastion who died, Alexander's lover." So I did some research. Apparently, there are historians who believe Alexander the Great was in love with at least two men; one being Hephastion. I dug deeper and there was a person who mistaked Hephastion for Alexander and Hephastion said that he too, was Alexander. Which brings me back to the scene where Oliver tells Elio to "call me by your name and I'll call you by mine."

So what's interesting, is that I do past life readings. What my guides told me is that both Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer have a past life during WWII. Armie was a German and Timothee was Jewish. They had a 'forbidden' relationship because this was considered punishable by death at the time. Armie was male and Timothee was female, not that that matters, but what matters is they were able to recreate that love in this movie. Not only that, but for everyone to see so there's no shame. It's also a testament to the fact that love NEVER dies!

Call Me By Your Name signifies the highest love. A love built on the admiration for the one you love. A love so deep that you wish you were them. That you love and admire everything about them that you will take their name in honor of them. In the hetero culture, I believe women do this when they take their husband's last name with the honor of their love. But there is no higher form of flattery when Oliver desires to be called Elio because Elio is the kind of person he’d like to be. He loves him so much that he wants to be Elio and wants to feel what it’s like for Elio to call him and share his name. How deep a love.

This story is so universal that it doesn't matter if you are straight gay or anything else, you will feel bad, sad and you will cry seeing this movie. I think it makes people understand that love is love and that gay people love as straight people do, no differences. Two boys (or two girls) can make love, hope about being together all their life, can be silly and happy as fuck on the open air, can cry freely because one left, as much as a boy and a girl do in a relationship. What i find amazing about his movie is exactly this, everything looks normal and natural, not forced to prove a point, but still the message reaches everyone, because everyone knows that at least once in life will feel (or already felt) the same as Oliver and Elio did. Thank you Luca, Armie, Timothée, André and everyone that had their heart set to make this story so pure, i think that is what the world needed

I'm a straight girl and I cried. Mostly because of the speech of Elio's father. I think that's the beauty of the movie, a love story that will not last but will happen anyways, because the feelings should be felt, including pain.

I love everything about this story. I've been crying a lot lately T-T Every time I remember the Monet's Berm part.... or when Oliver was sitting on the rock, Elio was wondering where he was and finally spotted him there... and what they talked there... T-T the days in Rome... The very final part.... Ghost Spots... TT-TT EVERYONE MUST READ the book, there's all the details you can understand a lot more better everything happening in the movie especially when Elio sniff Oliver's trunks xD in the movie they made it a bit weird haha xDDD

@@AgentAO7 I like Gods Own Country and its definitely a great movie. Captures that real feeling perfectly. But its no where near as powerful or moving as CMBYN imo. GOC captures these real emotions but CMBYN makes you feel them and stirs you in a beautiful way. Its intense and raw and everything about it (writing, casting, acting, soundtrack and timing) builds on everything else perfectly. It invokes feelings in a way almost nothing else can. I watched this movie on a really long flight earlier this year....had no clue it was going to evoke such strong emotions from me. I uncontrollably sobbed so much I got weird looks from the people sitting around me. I then landed in a different country and had my own experience with a temporary lover who very well might be my soulmate. He moved on but I still like to watch this as it reminds me of us deeply in love with one another running through fields and forestry feeling the pure unadulterated joy of a child in one another's presence. I will love him forever, and I have this song to remind me of us.

I watched this film a few nights ago and it is literally all I have been able to think about since. It moved me beyond belief and this song as well as Visions of Gideon at the end completely enhanced the raw emotion throughout the whole film. Timothee grasped the obsessive, vulnerability of falling in love for the first time, while Armie showed how desperate Oliver was to be as carefree about it as Elio, but having something holding him back (probably his parents/societies disapproval). Acting was astonishing in this film, the music was perfect for it. I'm also 100% biased as I have been a diehard Sufjan fan for over 10 years now 😂 I thank the world for this film.

I'm not sure what Pancho means with his comment. In the story, the older guy Oliver doesn’t encourage the younger guy Elio in any way. He actually pushes him away. I however agree with SuperSonicCat1 that Armie doesn’t really look 24, which is how old Oliver is in the book.

Excerpt from the book (The conversation happens in the winter, after Oliver’s been home for months.): “I might be getting married this spring.” [Oliver] said. I was dumbfounded. “But you never said anything.” “Well, it’s been on and off for more than two years.” That’s regarding Oliver having a girlfriend at the time he was with Elio. And I’m not sure they are putting emphasis on anyone’s age. Did the characters even have a line where they stated how old they are? I don’t recall such moment. But even if they do, I feel like people are the ones to concentrate on age in their heads, mostly because they cannot put aside the knowledge that Armie Hammer is older in real life. But everyone’s free to have an opinion, so I respect yours. I will just continue to enjoy this story.

the amount of beauty this movie captured is an amount that can be caught in the greatest and purest moments in life. through all the moments of terrible heartbreak and realization coming into one, reminding Elio who he is and that Oliver was there for a reason. that reason was not just he was there to be your lover, but as your guide, a perspective you never knew you had. in every way possible this movie is one of the most beautiful things i have ever watched and seen. i hope our future people can take a look at this movie and realize life is really beautiful.

This song makes me feel so bittersweet, I start crying every time. It reminds me so much of my first and only love. She ended up with a man, but she taught me what love was meant to be. I miss her all the time. She's still my closest friend but there's always our past looming in the air. This book got me right where it hurts. I've never connected to a piece of literature more.

It's a movie about white gay boys. When are we going to finally see a gay film that addresses the racism in the gay community? Gay men complained in the past that 99.9% of films made are about straight people. Now 99.9% of all gay movies are about white gay people. It's pretty hypocritical.

Oh, to see without my eyes The first time that you kissed me Boundless by the time I cried I built your walls around me White noise, what an awful sound Fumbling by Rogue River Feel my feet above the ground Hand of God, deliver me Oh, oh woe-oh-woah is me The first time that you touched me Oh, will wonders ever cease? Blessed be the mystery of love Lord, I no longer believe Drowned in living waters Cursed by the love that I received From my brother's daughter Like Hephaestion, who died Alexander's lover Now my riverbed has dried Shall I find no other? Oh, oh woe-oh-woah is me I'm running like a plover Now I'm prone to misery The birthmark on your shoulder reminds me How much sorrow can I take? Blackbird on my shoulder And what difference does it make When this love is over? Shall I sleep within your bed River of unhappiness Hold your hands upon my head 'Til I breathe my last breath Oh, oh woe-oh-woah is me The last time that you touched me Oh, will wonders ever cease? I don't know if watching this film was a good idea, actually. I mean, I loved the movie, it was great and it's now my favorite. But at the same time, I feel like I should have not watched it, it created this sort of endless sorrow in me, I'm not really liking it. I know i should be more mature, but really, I hope with all my heart that the sequel won't be the same as the one in the book, okay that it's like selling themselves just because of the fans, but this is not a stupid movie, CMBYN is on a different level. It's art, majestic art like Greek statues which look down on you, because you can't and you won't reach their level of beauty.
