Much better than the characters explaining it. That's the one thing I like I always hated it when a character pretty much tells their opponent their power just so the opponent has an idea of what they're up against and how they can counter it. With the narrator and we the audience getting idea of the power in the ability we get that privilege information not have it told To Us by the character while the opponent hears the power too which is ill-advised in the world of Hunter x Hunter for example to let your opponent even have an inkling of what your power is. And when they do talk about their power day at least have a reason for doing it not gloating stupidly or giving an enemy a clue
