Rupert Spira was kind enough to sit with Bill and me while we were on retreat with him at Mercy Center in San Francisco. Rupert has a clarity that sounds in the mind like a Zen gong! His insights help "connect the dots" in ways you will be thankful for. To stay in touch with me, join my elist at amytorresacim.com

As a Course student in in-person groups for many years, I started searching for more and found Advaita. I started listening first to Mooji, then Rupert. Love this new "look" at spiritual life and I find it a perfect place to be after the Course. This interview - questions from Course people - and Rupert's wording to his answers very useful. Looking forward to listening to Part II. Thanks so much.

Simply do this: Be still, and lay aside all thoughts of what you are and what God is; all concepts you have learned about the world; all images you hold about yourself. Empty your mind of everything it thinks is either true or false, or good or bad, of every thought it judges worthy, and all the ideas of which it is ashamed. Hold onto nothing. Do not bring with you one thought the past has taught, nor one belief you ever learned before from anything. Forget this world, forget this course, and come with wholly empty hands unto your God. ~Lesson 189 - A Course in Miracles ❤️

Yes, only yourself can know yourself. Ego is an illusion, an activity not an entity. Ego doesn't do anything, you might think that it is your separate self that finds God, but it is not. It is God in you taking itself away from the awareness of the mirage, of the illusion called ego and its illusory body of thoughts, it is always God, yourself, that takes its attention away from this illusion and places it back upon itself. So only God can know God just as only awareness can know awareness. Your ego cannot know God.

Actually .. a major correction to Amy's quote from ACIM is that it says "Into ETERNITY crept a tiny mad idea ..." not "Into the mind of God...". So unfortunately is a misquote that misinterprets the actual meaning of that passage in the Course .. Chapter 27 section VIII Hero of the Dream.

You know, for me, Paul, the essence of all teachings is the Same. So there is pleasure in the overlapping of paths with no need for them to be totally synergized ... the path literally disappears from under our feet as we drop belief systems and, as ACIM puts it, rise above the battleground. All I care about is the Essence, the Source ... the paths are just the temporary undoing tools.
@freelightexpress
@freelightexpress 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Amy, I agree. Life is infinite as it is, so although essential reality is universally the same, as you say...the tools, paths, approaches or methodologies are diverse and different. The more useful tools will actually assist us in directly knowing/realizing the truth that liberates us. Do you have a particular version of ACIM that you personally trust and use? I have the physical 2005 copyrighted version by New Christian Church of Full Endeavor,....and I've used other online versions for discussion group studies, etc. I was just curious if you had some thoughts on this and recommendations. Thanks!

There are 2 perspectives of Reality. Top Down or Bottom Up. Rupert is sharing the Top down approch as a starting point. Either way they both meet. Both are needed for the Full Merkaba,.. and yet depending on which one is our main Starting-point, they give different experience of Reality. Check out the ebook "The Conscious Being" by Brian Schaefer it puts all together in a most complete wholistic Approch & Understanding.

Please understand that you do not respond to anything directly, but to your interpretation of it. Your interpretation thus becomes the justification for the response. Here with Rupert Spira is a very good example of this justification from interpretation..

Is the dream analogy meant to be equal to, you(awareness) and your mind(thoughts,feelings etc) in that if your not aware of being aware your minds noise becomes a reality your lost in but if your aware that your aware you know your not the mind and therefore are not pulled along by it? A tiny mad idea did not enter God's Mind. The tiny mad idea appeared to happen in the mind of the dreamer (God's Son). Therefore God is not mad, but the dream that the Son/Dreamer is having appears to be mad. God doesn't know the content of His Son's dream because if God did, then the content would be real. God only knows that His Son is dreaming. Hence God calls His Son to awaken. This calling is heard by the Dreamer. We experience the calling by God as GRACE or the Holy Spirit in the dream of separation calling the prodigal Son to awaken and return to the realization that He is dreaming a dream that is untrue and that He has never left God or the Kingdom of Heaven.

As Rupert explained, the one Son is having a dream---a dream that he is many. The world doesn't exist, except in the dream. God does not participate in the dream of separation and a world. It's the Son's dream. It isn't real, and God is only real. God does not participate in the Son's fantasy.

Because thoughts feelings perceptions ( body mind) are always impermanent, changing and shifting, but your awareness of them is changeless. You are always aware. You can be sad one minute and then happy the next therefore these experiences change but what does not change is your awareness of whatever you experience.
@depressionbeard9882
@depressionbeard9882 4 жыл бұрын
wtipton28 if YOU are aware OF IT, you cannot BE IT. It can't be what you are if it appears TO YOU as an object. You wouldn't say that you are the car outside your window or the cup of coffee on your table or the tree in the forest or the dog or the woman that you see in the park, would you? Of course not. Because you have your own sense of identity and know that everything else you perceive outside of you is not you. This teaching here just takes this a little further and questions even your sense of a solid identity that you think is made up of your thoughts, perceptions, sensations and emotions. And so what is considered an object and not you now also includes these thoughts, feelings, sensations and perceptions. They are just as much objects (arguably subtler than so-called matter) as anything else outside of you. This is what's meant by the inward facing path. You single out and establish your Self as awareness by realizing that you're no thing. In other words: a thought cannot think, a perception cannot perceive, a feeling cannot feel. The outward facing path is a different story then of course and tries to merge this awareness with the objects again. And this time even with seemingly innate matter. You recognize yourself not only in thoughts etc., but in everything and everyone around you.

Rupert escapes the "why" question when perhaps he could just say there is no answer to the "whys". The only reasonable answer would be that the Divine gets "bored" so it creates a palate of Time and Form and also the "screen" he talks of---or the "sky" some use as metaphor--in which the Lila or the "play" can be manifested. So there is one answer to the "why"---a problem though arises. Why did "god" get bored or need some action--the movie on the screen--and where the restlessness came from--and then of course why all the suffering? And yes the "dream entities" deserve consideration. There is a touch of reality to their experience. Can anyone do better in answering the why? Boredom? Or is the whole "spiritual metaphor" an attempt to escape the harsh reality that omg there is duality and suffering and no answer outside of that created by the ego-permeated mind?

@donnsmith6482 7 жыл бұрын
Yes michael that is why i suggest he should just say there is no answer to "why". However i think it valid to question why it is that the consciousness or god or awareness or whatever has chosen to create this world---to in one sense use all of us "non-beings" as puppets (hello trump!) in his/her/its game. Yeah i know how that can be answered by non-dualists but the beauty of their philosophy is it has developed a way to answer any question that arises---that is--given you accept their first premise! And do not dare question it.

If someone is suffering one would respond to it.. sometimes its gonna be enlightenment teachings, sometimes its gonna be money or medicine. Or do you want to go to the suffering one and offer them the perfect description of why duality happened? Not sure its gonna quench their thirst.. Or do you yourself feel knowing the why will help you in some way? Is it rather that you yourself have an aversion to suffering and pain? So what exactly can be done about that? If it is part of life, then nothing can be done but to do our best for ourselves and others.
@donnsmith6482
@donnsmith6482 7 жыл бұрын
Hi michael. Wow how did you answer that so fast? Yeah i get your point and having lived in advaita ashrams for many years on and off (plus being 70 helps) i have a fairly clear idea of the whole "Lila" answer to wtf is going on here. The buddha says there is suffering....so who or what is suffering and why would he even speak anyway if he understood --and he may have--there was no one who actually suffers? There is and the true test of any kind of "enlightening" is how one responds to that. How to behave in this play? Advaita often ignores this along with little mention of Love(yes there is some) in these philosophy lessons. There is a lot of self-stim here too. Sometimes a kinda "hey look how intelligent i am" feel. Of course --a perfect comeback to any observations--i could be projecting. If you stay in their ballpark and play their game by their rules it all makes sense. That is the fun of listening to these talks. And they do help--another tool in the toolkit of pointers to the path to where you always already are! Now----i do applaud any efforts to point folks in the direction of self inquiry. We need for consciousness to change and fast. Many of us feel that and we would not be feeling it if we believed all was just god playing. And i do not agree that a child starving and cold chose to do so. Or a mass murderer incarnated knowingly and so did their victim volunteer. That is non--sense from our temporal point of view. Ok from the universal perspective who is there that cares? I do appreciate your point of view michael---it is just as valid as any. Even the pov of the non-dualists. Who is it that is not dual once they open their mouth anyway?

One has to be careful with these kinds of things. They can lead to spiritual bypassing and depersonalization. "There is only impersonal awareness" is true, but ONLY in one lens or view. Try telling someone being raped or tortured, "relax, only an illusory separate self could be raped or tortured". (you get my drift) Human life can be very hard! Have you ever lost a sibling or child? This Advaita stuff is of no help in those cases. So, while we contemplate this absolute stuff, don't forget that it's only one side of the coin. To me, Zen is more advanced than Advaita Vedanta. Zen teaches "the harmony of the relative and the absolute" (as opposed to saying "there is only the absolute" etc). When we want to philosophize, we can take on these absolute points, but we don't walk into "illusory traffic". There is wisdom in holding both views simultaneously. The non-dual scene is full of spiritual bypassing, just be careful.

It is good for Rupert to stay away from the Course in Miracles, which is nothing but a channeling of an evil spirit, a masterpiece of neurolinguistic programming to lead you to the dark side of the Force, as Darth Vader goes. However, another masters like Eckhart Tolle, even mention it in his books, like The power of now...incredible!....
