Update: FixDry will send new heat shield, but according to them, I have the latest rollers, which is weird, since there is not space between the filament and new part.

I can't believe they are just ripping off your data on their product page. They don't credit you and they lie about the data. Shame on them.

Thanks for the review and great data. They sent me one for review as well. Mine has the baffle, but the air temp, measured dead center in the chamber never reaches over 48C, even when running for over 12 hours. Their display, of course, showed 70C. When I questioned this and pointed out the temp was too low for drying anything but PLA (and even questionable for PLA), they stopped responding to me altogether. It seems like there is a real opportunity here for a company to actually produce a high-wattage properly PID controlled dryer.

Same, they ghosted me when I asked why it doesn't have a temperature sensor that display real data, not fictional numbers.

I'm a big fan of your channel as well as Igor's. It seems like all these chinese manufacturers keep farting these dryers out while constantly making the same design mistakes. I bought a cabinet-style food dehydrator for $120 and haven't looked back.

Thank you for sharing your work and passion for the technical aspects of 3d printing. --2 things, 1. I purchased a unit directly from fixdry in June 2023 and it contained the baffle, maybe some vendor is getting rid of old stock 2. It looks like anything you put on KZbin or the internet is fair game to be ripped off without credit. I subscribe to a newsletter that a guy put out for free on his website as a public service. Someone started taking the newsletter verbatim and selling it without his name or permission. The lawyers told him that because the newsletter was free, it had no value in a lawsuit because he could not show damages. Now he charges a nominal fee for the newsletter to discourage ripoffs. Some people have no honor and know they are doing wrong while others are in a Society that does not recognize that ripping off others work to be a bad thing.

Looks like I am the only one who got the dryer without the baffle, I have to design one myself, but I don't have the dimensions. About my data, as I mentioned, I shared it, so anybody can use it (even the excel table is downloadable). I am just hoping that who ever uses it, he will give at least some attribution, it doesn't cost them $.

Thank you for the video. It's good to have stronger dryers on the market too. This is not a solution for your average buyer, but personally I would just modify this one with a couple of thermometers, one with the sensor placed below the spool directly above the heating element and the other higher up and then just monitor the temperatures from those and ignore the machine's own value. Until now I have been drying my filaments in the oven, which is very powerful but during the first heat up overshoots the requested temps by about 100 C which requires constant monitoring by me anyway (don't ask me how I learned that LOL).

Another great review/testing as always :) (maybe a quick note that sponge testing only test surface moisture drying which will not always be representative of how efficient the dryer is at drying polymer with water content, We also tried it and we noticed that our dryer was performing similar to other dryer with the sponge test, sometime worse, but it was better at drying the filament, and safer) The challenge is to have a good balance between airflow and temperature "evenness" Just sharing some of our experience :)

I agree. Drying has 2 stages. 1) big heat forcing moisture from material to surface. 2) Dry environment, so moisture will evaporate from surface. But when I finish these tests, there will be again 6 dryer comparison, and this time the drying subject will be PA6 (soaked in water 1 week). I will measure the weight on analytic scale.

Do you have any updates on the FixDry? When I asked about the temperature never rising above 50C this was their response. “We use PTC heating to dehumidify while heating. The air outlet temperature is closest to the displayed temperature. Increasing the temperature may cause the printing filament or the container holding the printing filament to burn out. You can continuously use our drying box to remove moisture and observe the use effect.” If I dry a 1 KG of PETG for 8 hours I do see a dramatic difference in my prints. Less than that, not so much. They say it should only take 2 hours per their chart. What are your thoughts?

I answered my own question. I decided to buy the Creality Space Pi. With the FixDry I tried drying some Desiccant Beads. After 8 hours of the highest temperature they barely changed colors. After 3 hours in the Space Pi they were back to the working color. Also the The FixDry never indicated more that a 50 degree centigrade temperature even when the thermometer was over the heater. The Space Pi matched almost exactly what the temperature was in the chamber. Reaching close to 70C.

@@MyTechFun I also had to create my own version because the original heat spreader interferes with Prusa spools by causing friction. This issue negates the effectiveness of the ball bearing rollers, which are spaced too far apart, as you noted. One solution could be to print thicker rollers to elevate the spool, preventing it from contacting the heat spreader. I will try designing them tomorrow.

@@MyTechFun The Polydryer claims to have multiple redundant safety systems, thermal fuses. Have read reports of some dryers melting themselves to destruction. Would be a nice addition to these reviews to note whether a dryer has thermal fuses to protect against fires.

Thank you for the beautiful review. Ill suggest to everyone to use industrial vegetable drier - i reach with it 80 celcius on a spool itself (thermal camera check), and temp is even on all surface bc of very slow air movement with a huge fan inside that makes no noise. My PC & PETG is the most dry filament in a galaxy now (as i can reach up to 90 degrees easy).

The "Heat Diversion Shroud" came with my NT1, but i have the same rollers as in your video. With the shroud in place the highest temp reached inside the dryer is about 55C. When set for higher temperatures the display indicates higher than actual temperatures. If a measurement is taken under the shroud it is higher and much higher when measure directly on the PTC. I think it self limits (this is a characteristic of PTCs) at the higher temp measured at the PTC. There may be too much heat escaping through the plexiglass to allow higher average temperatures to stabilize within the dryer. I plan to add some insulation to the lid to find out what effect that may have. It appears they are using software to fake the indicated temperature above 55C. BTW, I think the blue humidity sensor also measures the temperature. It looks like a DHT-11.
@MyTechFun
@MyTechFun 7 ай бұрын
According to downloaded manual (since I didn't got one) the temp is not measured but "intelligent estimated". The Eibos had the sensor 3 cm above surface for better accuracy.

Thanks for the review. Seems like QC is an issue as the results from other reviewers are all different. I had that one in my cart as well and decided to go with the Sunlu S4 instead. I am glad I did. But hopefully fixdry is able to correct those issues. As it seems like a good option compared to some others I have used or seen. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I think they modified it to fix issues. Not sure when is my unit manufactured, but probably they tried to lower the hot air temp, and later they went with that shroud solution and later they modified rollers too, since the spool was too low, sitting on that shroud.

Mine came with a user guide and an air diversion shroud to protect the filament from direct contact with hot air. I also designed handles that double as plugs for the unused filament paths to even out the temperature inside, as I detected some backflow of cold air from outside. I also made a video! Additionally, it is completely unacceptable for them to steal and falsify your test results.

In your testing have you considered the differences when the volume isn't being taken up by filament spools? Or is it pretty negligible?

It's different, but I tried to make same circumstances for testing. IS measured Sovol two spool version, and I noticed it needs more time for heating, but after that it performs equally good.

Mine came with a fan deflector part, bigger rollers and a manual. That was at least 6 months ago. I also use a separate sensor and temperature is generally around 4°C lower that FixDry's sensor says. Very different to your results and I use an external sensor all tje time so it is consistent over time. Did you get a faulty unit I wonder?

I want something that can print PA-cf and nylon directly from the dryer. Which would you recommend? This seems like a winner with the heat shield, but their QC seems all over the place. I worry about the motor and long term durability of the Eibos. Especially because I can get a small food dehydrator for less and drill holes in it. I just want a single or dual spool holder that will work for more exotic materials but not fry my petg. Thanks so much. It is also disgusting they ripped off your data, changed it, and all without telling you. It shows how shady of a company they are and that they absolutely aren't honest.
