Here in the States snooker is played by some but in my experience pool is far more prevalent. I worked in a room with 21 pool tables and two snooker tables. No three cushion at all. Here in Colombia South America three cushion tables are everywhere...a few pool tables here and there...and no snooker at all. Lately I've watched quite a few US 9 ball tournaments on KZbin and have noticed that a number of the top UK snooker players pop over to challenge all comers at the lucrative 9 ball tournaments. It's easy to spot the snooker players turned 9 ball players just by the way they stand at the table. It seems like all of them use the open handed bridge whereas the Americans, Fillipinos & other Asians will use the closed bridge. The snooker guys can pot the extremely difficult shots with ease owing to the fact that they were reared on much larger tables with decidedly smaller pockets. You guys are deadly on a pool table.

So come your snooker heroes often lose to the Americans or the Philipinos then? SVB just won another US Open 10b and Carlo Biado won the one at the Rio.

@@johnnyroc I didn't say they're my heroes. Why would you distort my words to fit a sarcastic frame of mind? To me they are able competitors and good shots. Snooker and 9 ball are very different games. I seldom played Snooker and 9 ball champ Efren Reyes was a hero to me. Even if the Snooker guys don't win a tournament they can still take home prize money. And it's amazing how much money is won and lost in private matches between players at the tournaments. Players go where the money is for the ACTION.

I liked . Excellent break down & analysis. ( I’m 72 , and never quite looked at stance in this manner , although I’ve changed mine many times over the years .( without actually seeing precisely why …)

That's excelent explaination and removed many obstacles for focusing on stance mocking from top players. Making your own stance according to standards and comfort of your own is a really really good idea. Listened to many coaches and watched videos and this is finest explanation. Thank you so much. I have a questions and I would be grateful if you would answer. 1. How hight should be the cue from cushion. For example playing straight shot for blue, my cue is about half inch high from middle pocket. It is how my coach is suggesting me but I am a little uncomfortable with it but it gives me better vision by straightening up my head and lease tension on eyes but very tight cueing, hardly touching cue to the chest while hitting middle of cue ball. 2. should I lower down my bridge hand to play screw and raise the hand or should I lower down or raise butt of cue for hitting high or low on cue ball?

*when i am down on the shot i normally cue with center chin, but when i do the dominant eye test, and holing a pen towards an object bring toward my face, that pen hits my right chin. should i trust my normal chin position or the pen test result? thank you very much*

how does stance change with the Sight Rite Method, do you need a particular stance or is it just sighting from eye?

Is it normal for the back to get tired??? Because really the body posture in snooker seems to me that it requires a lot of length, since there is a torsion of the trunk and the ankle when both feet are facing forward. The truth is that I am a pool player and I am working on correcting my posture and cue action based on snooker fundamentals, on the one hand I feel more effective when it comes to pocketing balls, but my back gets very tired.

My striking is a little too inconsistent. In practice if I get in a rhythm I can make 100+ breaks. My long potting is sometimes good but then I can miss by a mile for no apparent reason . I put this down to not cuing straight when using power. I am trying to pull back my cue more like all the top pros (except the Chinese players and mark Allen) but when I pull back far it’s not straight. If I pull back less it’s straight but then I can’t do power shots and rely too much on timing or I jab the shot. In fact sometimes im better just pointing and shooting with out much feathering but that holds me back and my long shots are inconsistent. I find that pulling back and loosening the cue grip to stay horizontal and straight means my cue control isn’t adequate. All in all I’m struggling to cue consistently and straight. Any recommendations - this must be a common problem.

Wrong again! There should be no twist in the shoulders. The higher the stress in the shoulder blades the tighter the grip will be. All the turn (if any) should be in the hips and legs. If done correctly, the hips will support the spine, the spine will support the shoulder blades and neck, which in turn will support the head. This will result in a perfectly relaxed neck and shoulders. Which then leads to a relaxed grip. The whole point of the stance (apart from stability ofcourse) is 1. to let you get down on the shot in a straight line keeping your vision centre always on the line. 2. to put the line of swing on the line of aim. The width of the feet, squareness etc don't matter too much as long as they are within reason and not too extreme (for eg. when you are leaning on to the table with one leg on it, all this goes to hell) It doesn't matter where in relation to the line you are standing initially. Your body will put you on the line even while moving. I have to say, I have seen all your videos and there isn't a single concept thats your own original thought. You are just repeating what "they" all have already said in various videos and books. None of these coaches have produced a player even remotely close to Ronnie O Sullivan; Oh but he is naturally gifted (A load of bollocks if you ask me). Have you ever considered that may be there is a LOT more to technique that you guys haven't even started to scratch the surface of? I know its hard but we must atleast try to think differently don't you think?

re "there Isn't a single concept thats your own original thought", with respect, have not the videos that Chris has posted have been about 'myths', hence the use of the word 'they"... also, 'theory' has changed over time... for me a time line can been seen through, in 'book form' starting perhaps with Joe Davis's "How I play snooker" into "Advanced Snooker". through books by Horace Lindrum, Clive Everton, Rex Williams,, Ray Redon, Eddie Charlton. Jack Karnehm, leading to Frank Callan's great book "Snooker Clinic", where he introduced us to The Pause....

This is one of the most bizarre comments I've ever seen. It seems like you have a vendetta against this guy for some reason, even though he's actually giving great information. Moreover, you expect someone talking about a pool stance to provide original thoughts? Would you make the same criticism about a video teaching multiplication? Teaching well understood concepts requires clear speaking, succinctness, etc, not providing "original thoughts." I'm not sure why I decided to spend 5 minutes of my life typing out this comment. I suppose if aliens stumbled upon this thread I'd like them to know we're not all idiots.

Jack Karnhem used a phrase "Sitting on the hips" when explaining/tutoring about the snooker/billiard stance. Any one here wants to explain what Mr. Karnhem was talking about ? A question here, and not to @kshgarg, why do most Billiard/Snooker/Pool Players have a slanted/skewed face when they are down on the shot. They obviously dont stand behind the line of the shot and line up to the shot in most cases with a skewed/slanted face; the angle of the face seems to skewer/slant/bend/deviate more and more as we get down on to the shot. Why are we not "even sighted/square faced" when we are down on the shot ? Most right handed players when down on the shot have their face turned slightly to the right, most are not facing the shot with a staright face and mostly start putting the cue under the left eye to compensate. This then starts us on the topic of the Dominant eye....we dont think about dominant eye when driving/reading/operating...etc. try riding a bike with your dominant eye only.
