Just acquired a copy of the game with all the expansions for a steal. However the previous owner discarded most of the boxes so I’m waiting for a custom foam insert to arrive. It looks very daunting at the moment with so much minis, tokens, cards, etc. What would be the best way to start? My wife is slowly getting into board games and loves strategy games so I picked an easier one for us to play such as Star Wars the deck building game. She loves it and enjoys playing however she has never played a skirmish type game. I don’t want to deter her so my plan is to watch a bunch of playthroughs and gain some experience.

I'm personally a big fan of getting new players straight in with the full experience, particularly if they have interest in the setting and particular characters etc. However, if you think that will be too daunting, some of the scenarios feature reduced options/smaller forces and focus on specific mechanics. This can be a drawback later, however, as it means relearning the full skirmish mode later. An alternative is to stick to the core box (fewer options) and the ruins of olympus board initially. Other than that, I strongly recommend you become fully familiar with the game rules before trying to teach them. It's a great game, though, and several of the new players (including those not massively into tabletop games) that I've introduced it to have become totally addicted. I'm sure you and your wife will really enjoy it! - Victor

@@namelessseraphimgaming thanks for the detailed reply! I love your content and it really helps as I am new to the world of board gaming, as well as hobbie painting. I even acquired the art book as a reference or inspiration. Keep up the great work!

which is the difference between 1.0 and 1.5 version? and which you think is better? thanks in advance

That's a great question! The 1.5 reprint of the game included an overhaul of the core rules and also the individual cards for a large number of the miniatures originally released for the game. To be honest, we've been using the 1.5 rules for so long it's hard to remember exactly what changed but I believe I'm right in saying it changed the way troops deployed, updated the rules for flying creatures and added a number of quality of life changes to ready the game for the Ragnorok expansion (for example). By far the biggest changes were the updates to the units themselves. The changes were significant and I think it is a postive sign for the game's health that Monolith would undertake a balancing exercise on this scale, however the core look and feel of the game didn't really change. Both versions feel like Mythic Battles. I don't really think one is better than the other necessarily, expecially in a non-competitive setting, but 1.5 is the more up to date and in theory ensures the units in the game are more balanced, especially for competitive play. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
