The communal oven is still a much used and desperately needed thing that happens today all over the world. Not everybody can afford their own, so usually they pay a small rate or give some of the food to have the community oven cook the meals. I’ve even watched videos about them in places from Mexico to Africa. Sounds kinda great really. Many modern nations are trying to create community kitchens where everybody comes together to share food to make great meals for those who want it. I’d love to try it.

It a great way to meet the community. Years ago we had a big ice storm. Power was out for 4 days. I got out my gas grill/range and called my neighbor She posted on the next door app..."Hot grill tonight", and my address. People came from blocks away. Family, some friends I hadn't seen in a long time! Everyone coming together to eat and get a little drunk. Strangers all going through this shared experience with one another. People were grilling everything from carne asada with peppers and onions, pork loin, baked potatoes, corn on the cob. Some teenagers even showed up with a stack of frozen totinos pizzas! Lol. It was so cool to see the community come together like that. My mom even paid for a family to stay at a Holiday inn for 2 nights. Really shined a new light on what we take for granted vs where people really are in their lives. How something so simple can bring everyone to the same level
