I finally had time to finish the video, I would definitely support a more balanced approach instead of the extremes. Of course where that balance point is is highly subjective. It is far easier going for the extreme where you don't have to put any thought into it, which is why I suspect it is such a popular production decision. The dino mode backwards knee is more egregious now that I think about it more since it could be solved with literally one more joint (per arm/leg). It already has a bicep swivel, just add another one below the elbow (which is normally unnecessary) then use both to reverse the elbow/knee.

This deco is really tempting me. I don't collect Legends, but every once in a while something like this, or the G1 toy deco Jetfire that NewAge is putting out, will really tempt me. Just had to rewatch the review. Been thinking of of this figure for some time. Thanks for the review Bobby.

Totally agree with you about the decals being a bit much but the toon version being to plain, and preferring a 'merged' version. Which is why you should check out the comic book deco one, aside from the blue, it pretty much does all that. Great metallic deco and detailing, 'correct' gun and sword, no decals.

The engineering on this is fantastic. Love the figure. I have the toon version. Can’t wait for the shattered glass version. As for the leg extension I use it to make him slightly taller than Newage David when in Dino mode. But even Fanstoys Grimlock has a similar leg extension. Not exactly the same but similar. But to each his own. You are right, you’re the one looking at it. Love your channel and the other three dummies.

I think you're bang on in pointing out that no Grimlock release has the full set of accessories. Whilst Newage's repaints can be an absolute joy, this seems to be pushing people into buying more-than-one, which is rough at the price.

I think you still missed the sliding hips. But good on you getting the eyes and arm extensions. Interesting take on the leg/arms.

I understand including the toys missile launcher with the toy version (though not at the exclusion of the toy gun), but at the bare minimum they should have painted the missile itself since it was not part of the launcher and always another color.

The gun is actually fine as if you recall the G1 came with 2 guns..his iconc twin barreled gun (that they should have included it with this version) and a smaller gun which was a missile launcher which looked a LOT like this 1.

Great review. I am interested in your SDS about the New Age Business decisions. When you finished up this review you said that they made 2 Really good Grimlocks instead of one Amazing Grimlock. That made me think of the quote in Contact where they said why build 1 when you can build 2 for twice the price...lol.

Bobby, have you seen the comic deco version? Seems like the solution you might be looking for. Sure, you're dealing with a very dark blue instead of black, but you get the appropriate gun and sword with full paint with none of the tampo sticker detailing.

On the one hand, I completely agree about making a single, definitive version, which is why I got into Masterpiece so many years ago (and why I'm not such a big fan of it right now, despite it still being my main collection). On the other hand, I've been looking for an excuse to buy some of these Legends figures and have decided to buy (some of) the toy deco versions to really distinguish them from everything else in my collection. I do agree some of the decals are a little too much but then on others such as NewAge's Cyclonus, I think the toy decals are spot-on without being overdone.

A significant retooling of this to give more of that toy flavour in terms of sculpt would have been much more successful as opposed to just slapping toy style decals onto very cartoony proportions. It's like when people throw G1 style Toyhax decals onto 'toon accurate figures. It just doesn't work.

This kind of paint is what the FT Dinos should have used IMO. I'm not a person who think every figure needs all that much paint, but the grey they use is really dull.

It's crazy I prefer this one in robot mode (don't like the painted decal on his chest though but I think a 3rd party has a replacement) and the toon one which I own in Dino mode. Is that weird? lol When you mention masterpieces should be definitive I am glad companies do repaints. Some people prefer the more cartoon look like myself and others prefer the toy look.

What I'd love is this, but without any of the tampos. Love the silver and gollllllld but hate the toy sticker look. If rather get the original gray/yellow toon version.

I agree that this figure is way more striking than the toon version. Will be interesting to compare the two. But, the real question is, how does this measure up to the iron factory version we just got? 🤡(I am joking)

Your reviews are the worst. I've been watching for years and you either complain about lack of paint or do what you are doing now and call paint aps overkill. 🤣 I've seen you break figures by forcing parts to go where they shouldn't and then call it bad quality control as well. 🧐 consistancy is not in your vocabulary and it shows.
