Your reasoning for keeping XTB Skids is a perfect example of the value of "first to market", and also the value of stepping on each other for announcements to get people to consider waiting for a later one (like FT has done repeatedly).

Before Takara’s came out,X-Transbots looked to be a very good(and only?) representation of the character in Masterpiece form. Which in turn,almost makes the comparison unfair for X-transbots,because it came out a good while before the official release. The thing is,one is cartoon accurate and the other seems more toy accurate if I’m not mistaken. Good comparison overall.

Nice comparison. Since I'm a huge fan of the anime You're Under Arrest, I freaking love this mold. I love it so much I have 4 of them, 3 of which are Takara Tomy and 1 is the You're Under Arrest version from X-transbots. I was shocked to see that it was actually X-transbots that made it instead of Takara Tomy as that's the very first thing I thought of when I saw the mold.

He hates the pins that xtb does and at 6:56 I happened to be staring at takara's 2 pins looking at me... but I guess since one of the two takara pins were painted red, I suppose they get the edge. 🤭... I mean, 😉 since only one of the two takara pins was staring back at me.

I plan to get the Takara releases (Skids and Reboost) for my MP Diaclones; XTB's stays with my cartoon display, as it's more accurate to the cartoon model. Also, Merry Christmas, Bobby! Wish you all the best :)

Merry Christmas Bobby! I hope it was wonderful. Let me step up to the opinion podium for a moment. Alt mode. Takara takes it because they were going for the toy and really world esthetic. Skids was a Honda city turbo and that had the hood bump for the intercooler. Savant was missing that and it bugs me. Also, Takara is smaller in alt and I thought Sav's alt was huge and stuck out. Sav got the toon shoulders but Takara went toy there. It is an eye of the beholder thing. Toy esthetic wins in my collection so it is worth the swap for me. (Also helps that my wonderful wife bought it for me)

For me, I try to keep my MP scale collection is as close to the original toy aesthetic as possible. My nostalgia is the toys rather than the cartoon, so toon accuracy kind of turns me off. Anyway, I kept my X-Transbots Herald, and he is in car mode. But my official Skids and Reboost are in robot mode and look really lovely together. Interestingly, the portable motor scooter that comes with Reboost is NOT as nicely done as the one that comes with Herald. I will be buying another X-Transbots figure in this mold, but it is going to be the "Taiho" one, after I found out it was a crossover with the anime, "You're Under Arrest". And the Japanese police car deco makes me very nostalgic for when I lived over there (Although the police weren't driving Honda City Rs, unfortunately).

I think this was fair as possible. I agree w/ him side by side Takara is better. Like him not enough 2 switch up 4 me. Interesting though on his shelf w/ the dio xtb looked better. Takara looked more like a cheap toy & xtb looked more like a statue w/ the dio.

The thing I noticed is that the XTB version's face/head is more faithful to the G1 character while the Takara seems closer to the IDW version.

I’m not mad at the result, I have already sold all my MPs, but I loved the XTB Skids and so I still want to point out some stuff I missed and think differently about. First: I bought Herald for just under €70. I see it sold out at ShowZ for $100 so I think XTB should get an extra point for that ;) As for the back of the robot, you mistransformed the bottom of the left door, that bar really doesn’t stick out like that. Check the right door in your video for comparison :) Heck, you wouldn’t be able to fit Skids in your display like you did with such an eyesore! It also looks from the side as if the XTB feet are too far forward in your video. I am not sure, but the whole weight of the bot seems to rest behind the heel spur, but I remember him as a very sturdy and balanced figure so can that be mistransformed too? Fourth, I think you used XTB Skids with his original face sculpt. That is fair, since that is how he comes out of the box, but there was a more defined face packaged in another XTB figure to replace it and that looks way better. You could also see it in the Taiho and Crosscut versions. I think the XTB Skids rerelease also has the better face sculpt, going off a quick online search of the photos that web stores use for him. Finally, since I feel I should say this too, I am surprised I didn’t hear you specifically about the clumsy and poor way XTB Skids’ upper arms hold together, or how much force you need to apply to get his front window in and from its place when transforming him. Or did I miss that? Anyway, I finally had something worthwhile to say about one of your versuses, so I took the opportunity. Love your show, keep up the great work and enjoy the holidays!!

I ended up filing down the pegs on the front of the windshield alot. As well as a tiny bit in the holes they go into. Makes popping it in and out so much better than before.

Damn! I really thought XTB would take accuracy due to the arm shape (wheels inside the shoulder and light blue colour) torso and weapons colours. I think the part hanging out with the backpack on the XTB goes under the door, as it is on the other side. Merry Christmas! Have a good one!

Love the vid Bobby, Thank You. I cannot Replace my XTB with TT, there are way too many Sacrafices. The blue Windiws, The wonky Shoulders, The lack of Diecast, The lack of Backward Sweep and no little bike just Says TT is cutting Costs, Which leads to Price...I got my XTB for $80. At TTs $100 the above should be Remedied.

My 2 cents: For accuracy: 1. XTB has better shoulders (the sculpt is more accurate and you can lower the shoulders a little to tie the position), 2. XTB has the correct color for the windshields and roof. 3. TAKARA loses 3 points for the Honda license plate, the extra sculpt on the front grill, the bump out for the Autobot symbol. A. Takara has more accurate knees. B. Takara has more accurate feet,(but just barely). Making it 6 to 5 for me. A win for Takara as I expected, but like you the categories where Takara wins don't make it worth swapping out. Especially since for me the shoulders, with the tire as XTB has it, is far more important than the knees. Well done and fair as always.

Agreed. Bobby does great reviews and versus but if we are considering cartoon accuracy the XTB is the clear winner. Too many things wrong with the Takara version. Hell, Takara even said this was a partially toy inspired look. It is close, but the XTB version is more cartoon accurate.

But a lot of collectors aren't going for toon accuracy but are going for toy aesthetic instead. I am one of those collectors. So it all depends on what the collector is looking for.

I really like my X-transbots, the interior car detailing is a huge part of that so it seems strange that didn't even get a mention(or did I miss it?) because the Takara is just full of robot bits. So yeah, you can display it with the doors open by why would you want to? Either way I'd still like to have both for the right price even though neither actually scale properly with the other Autobot cars in alt mode. For me it actually looks like the Legacy Skids nails the toon accuracy alt mode and real world scale so that will probably be my choice to display with Savant as robot mode. Great video as always!

The alt mode is an existing car. The honda city from 1981 and came with an actual folding pocket bike the motocompo that u could store in the trunk! So just for that xtransbots takes the win for me. Thanks for the comparison. About the only thing I would score different is the gimmicks. I like the fully finished dash in the XTB more then the hood opening in the Takara, but that is very subjective. I am keeping my XTB Skids in bot mode and the Takara in alt mode, but I also have the police repaint of the XTB, which is in alt mode on a shelf with rescue Autobots, and I have the red repaint of the Takara mold, with is in bot mode in my collection. I was always a bit of a sucker for Skids, and I love a police repaint. Have a fantastic Christmas season Bobby. Thank-you for all the excellent content over the years.

Good review. Don't understand why TT didn't include the little bike except to get you to buy the repaints. I think alt mode accuracy would go to TT as the XTB is larger and the TT is the correct size for the vehicle in comparison and has the Honda Lic. That's why there is a bump out for the turbo on his hood. IMOO (In My Objective Opinion) I think the TT looks better on your shelf as his asthetics better match the other figures. I have preordered the Crosscut so I can have the mold. On a side note, when will Takara start using rubber tires? I'm pretty sure that MP-01 is the only one that has them. Maybe I'm alone in my preference, but if a 3rd party company made rubber tires for official bots I'd buy them all. Ha ha

Are you serious?! You're penalising XT because there's a big blue stick projecting from his back on one side? Just look on his right side and you'll see how it's supposed to be.
