I learned more from this than 6weeks with a trainer and CDL school combined.

I have 6 months experience and for some reason I can never do this right. I had to look it up. It is embarrassing when you can't do a simple maneuver. All in the setup.

I’m gonna make sure I watch this video 1 millions times especially at 3:58 - that’s what I couldn’t comprehend

I Like to thank you man. While I was training, it was really hard for me to get all this down in my head, it just didn’t click. Much to the frustration of my trainer. I was able to pass training but barely. Then I stumbled on your videos. Showing a birds eye view of the tractor trailer, the angles, the movement of the wheels and trailer. It all helped a great deal for me to finally understand better. Still need some more practice but your videos did help me get out of this slump in learning. Again, thanks so much.

I think at 3:58 is key. You can come out of that 90degree position too early and come misaligned with the spot. I think the key is counting 1.....2.... While you're in that perpendicular with the trailer so it has a chance to rotate ,THEN come out of it. Because I tried to do this setup tonight in an wide open lot and I was OMG I forgot how to park!?? I didn't give it enough time in that perpendicular to rotate...that's why. I came out too early.

It’s my second day on my own and you have already helped me out so much! I can straight line back but was struggling with how to set up at the dock. Thank you so much!
@AGreedyTree2 жыл бұрын
The problem with trying to set yourself up for a straight line back is you usually end up having to blindside to fix it. For that reason, I just do a sight side setup with a very small angle between the tractor and trailer so it's almost like a straight line back. The best advice for any situation is to use all of your available space.

I love your teaching, especially the way you break down the way the steering wheel moves during your backing.

You are the best and I was struggling in 45 90 straight back in dock. It’s easy with cone, but really life I was nervous and scare. Your video are helping and increased my confidence. Hopefully my trainer don’t yell at me this time

In a day cab with 53' trailer, I set up with the forward line of the space (if space is to your left then the one that will be on your driver side when you turn at my shoulder. Then hard turn until my truck is facing 45 degrees to the imaginary line coming from the rear line of my space extened out. Then 45 straight to the imaginary extened line and then drive my inside steer tire onto and along that line until my truck and trailer are straight, this usually has my truck and trailer perfectly straight and in line with the space. A shorter trailer you have to turn a few feet sooner. I have not tried with a sleeper.

So there are a few ways to park backwards depending on the space and surroundings. Some people use 12 o'clock then 9 o'clock method for this setup but this seems easier on this video.

Hey question i get thrown off when im backing sometimes , my trailers aren’t always straight when im backing into a dock what is the best pin point at looking at the mirror when backing straight which mirrors do i look at or is it my mirrors aren’t position right ?
@MyTruckingSkills3 жыл бұрын
You need to watch both mirrors, no I'm not saying having your head looked left right left right left right the whole time but taking a peek in the right mirror every few seconds just to make sure that what you are seeing in both mirrors is equal when it comes to both sides of the trailer. When you are backing up in between two lines compare the bottom of the trailer to the line in the ground on both mirrors, if they are not equal then you are not straight with the dock. If it looks like you are parallel to the line on the left you are probably not parallel because of depth perception, You need to make sure that both sides look the same when it comes to both lines. I will make a video on this because it is come up a bunch of times from people.

I can dock 45 and 90 no problem. But....setting up for a straightline back i have problems. Can never seem to get my truck straight in front of the docking spot. Always crooked and aiming at the wrong area
@Jad-TV4 ай бұрын
You are not alone, after 3 years, and I still don’t do it perfect. I think because we don’t do much straight backing
@edgarayala50712 жыл бұрын
do you have to move the steering wheel fast? also I have my left hand on the bottom. so when I need to go left I use my left hand to go left and right going right.
