So true. I used to have stubborn acne right up into my 30s. My doctor started me on Retin-A and my skin cleared up really well but my skin still didnโt look itโs best. I started moisturizing a LOT and now my skin is pretty flawless. No texture, only smooth, bright skin. The Retin-A dried out my skin and I still got breakouts here and there. Since really moisturizing my skin I have NO breakouts and my skin has never been healthier. Moisturizers with ceramides are so important for skin health :)
I also use oils too! Back in my 20s and early 30s I couldnโt even imagine using oils but the more I hydrate, moisturize and top off with a light layer of oil, the better my skin gets every day! In case anyone would like to know what I do, I spray my face with thermal water or I pat on an essence; then I add a serum with hyaluronic acid (with ceramides preferably) and spray again with the thermal water (if you donโt provide the water for hyaluronic acid, it will get it from within your skin, drying you out); then I moisturize with a thicker cream (I love using โConfidence in A Creamโ by IT Cosmetics. They also have an amazing lighter version called โConfidence in a Lotionโ) and I top everything off with an oil. The one Iโm using right now (and loving) is Farmacy Honey Grail. I donโt use a lot. I just dab a bit on each of my fingertips of one hand and then I touch my fingers of my bare hand together with the one that has oil and lightly tap-tap-tap the oil all over my face. After Iโve given my skin a little massage with my finger tips, I press it in with my hands and rub any remaining on my cuticles and nails. Elizabeth Arden has a lot of products with Ceramides to choose from and their hyaluronic and Brightening capsules (in grey packaging) are particularly nice. I almost forgot to mention: I stopped using cleansers that have any soap or surfactant in it. This dramatically helped my oily skin. Cleansers with even a hint of bubbles wrecked my skin barrier and would cause my skin to breakout and look fatigued. I now use a milky cream cleanser without a hint of soap or anything that creates lather. When you donโt adequately moisturize skin and use bubbly cleansers with soap, etc, the skin overcompensates with oils and makes shed skin cells sticky and dry these clogs pores. The more you moisturize, the less sebum your skin will make. Youโll notice that you donโt get too oily through the day and makeup lasts longer and looks better.
