Nice MD unit 😊 Regarding the noise I assume it is the sled motor. I had the similar issue with one of my Sony MDs. Unscrewed the back cover and flipped over the mainboard (only removed 2 ribbon cables). After that I removed one plastic gear so that I could pull out the sled motor rotor. I cleaned the rotor and lubed it with some lithium grease. It was much quieter afterwards.

I have this model. Bought it new in 2001. Did not use it for years. There is some corrosion in the battery compartment. Not too much, though. Cleaned it up. But, I can only get it working if I open it up with the case off, and run it with a power adapter. The FM remote does not work either. It also has the same noise as yours. Would love it working again normally.
@CBitsTech Жыл бұрын
Try cleaning the contacts on the remote unit to get that working. If it's not working with the battery, I would suspect there's more corrosion on the inside of the unit. Sorry, it's really difficult to guess if I don't have sight of it.

@@CBitsTech I have two MZ-R700 machines and one is noisy and the discs don't read. The other one isn't noisy and works fine. There was definitely something wrong for it to make that noise. Probably needs more lubricant which you'd have to disassemble the machine to apply.

Hi just found your video. Got one of these that I bought new many years ago and enjoyed tremendously. The radio and remote works fine but the player doesn’t work anymore perhaps due to neglect. When i put in a MD it whirs silently then the display shows “NO DISC”. I have tried so many times but same result. Would really like to get this working again as it has a lot of sentimental value for me. Any suggestions?

Hi, sounds like the disc detection switch might need some contact cleaner or IPA. I don't think I've ever fixed a disk detection switch, but I heard from someone else that it's a common fault. Another thing to try is to put in a disc and press play, and as it starts to spin, hit the side of the player near the control buttons into your hand. What you're trying to do there is free up the laser shed. Sometimes they get stuck. There's a video of me lubricating one here kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpfCZqaFl9SLqKs

Hi My Names Paul. We spoke before about getting the sonic stage working. I hope you can recall me. Anyway I have a MZ-G750 as well. Its broken as well. when I slide over the record button and try to record off my computer , the timer starts blinking i don't know if that is good or bad. Then I press play to record, and nothing. The play button doesn't click like it used to either. The disc icon is flashes as well. I tried pressing pause to make sure its not on pause and then It says sorry. i DONT KNOW, CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE?
@paulleblanc2474 Жыл бұрын
Also Im trying to record with a digital optical cable. On both the mz-g750 and the mz-n707 but these were in really good condition and they both are now saying sorry. is it even possible to record by toslink or that a myth?
@CBitsTech Жыл бұрын
Yes, sounds like your player is waiting for a digital signal via TOSlink, but it's not getting one. Sounds like the thing sending the signal isn't sending a signal that the recorder can understand, or the player is trying to send something with DRM. If the recorder is flashing a counter which isn't going up then it's on record-sync waiting for a compatible signal from the player. The recorder recognises that it's getting a digital signal and is waiting for the player to play something it understands. It sounds like the player is sending an incompatible signal. Perhaps it's DRM, or maybe the wrong frequency.

Hi Paul. SonicStage CDs won't work with 64 bit Windows 7, but may work with 32 bit Windows 7. The following link describes a user-modified version of SonicStage that I used years ago to get it to work. It was difficult to get it to work, I think. Since then, I think the link to the downloadable version of SonicStage that did work on Windows 7 has been removed. Have a read here and let me know how you get on forums.sonyinsider.com/files/file/95-sonicstage-43-ultimate-edition/page/3/

@CBitsTech2 жыл бұрын
@@lennymaunton3183 Hi Lenny. I only ever owned one Sharp and it didn't work. I think Sharps suffer more than most with failed laser diodes. I would guess that this is the case with your non-working one too, especially if the laser sled moves freely without too much noise. However. I think that model is a recorder, though. With recorders, the laser is used to heat up the disc surface to a very high temperature to allow the magnetic record head to record new data. I'm guessing that those lasers must work at a higher power than a player that doesn't record, so maybe they don't fail as often. I'm just 'thinking out loud' here. I'd lubricate the rails and worm gear first, check there's no fluff on the laser lens, and if that didn't work I'd take it to bits and see if there's anything obvious wrong with the circuitboard; could be battery corrosion on the board, maybe.
