एन दत्ता ने अपनी धुनों में एकॉर्डियन का प्रयोग उन्होंने एक अलग ही ढंग से किया। मेलोडी उनके गीतों की ख़ासियत रही। उन्होंने जहाँ पश्चिमी अंदाज़ का संगीत दिया वहीं हिंदुस्तानी संगीत में भी उनका कोई जवाब नहीं रहा। कुल मिला कर वो एक सम्पूर्ण संगीतकार थे। भले ही लोग उनका नाम याद न रख पाएँ पर उनका संगीत कभी नहीं भुला सकते।

होलीवूडके मशहूर संगीतकार (नाम नही याद आ रहा है) मुंबई आये थे। इंटरव्युवमे उन्हे पुछा की आपको हिंदी सिनेमाकी संगीत या संगीतकारकी कितनी जानकारी है तो उन्होने लतादिदीके साथ कुछ संगीतकारका नाम लिया।तो अगला सवाल पुछा कौनसा गित? एक गीत तो बताईये।मुखडा याद नही आ रहा था,लेकीन धुन सुनाई थी।वोह थी "धडकने लगी दिलकी तारोकी दुनीया" फिल्म "धुल का फुल" गायक आशाजी और महेंद्र कपूर।संगीतकार अर्थात स्व.एन दत्ता।पुण्यस्मरण।

Earlier he worked with Guhlam Haidar who migrated to Pakistan, it was then he started working with S D Burman.His demise was a great loss to his fans and music industry. Lovers of film music will always remember him by his golden melodies.

N Datta composed many beautiful songs and there for he was one of the greatest talent from Goa. Unfortunately he lost his position in between due to illness and like many other artists could not retain his place in Bollywood like many more greats including Rajesh Khanna.

Alas, the narrator failed to mention two most outstanding tunes of N. Dutta. One was the ghazal of film Light House in the voice of Asha Bhosle: Kis tarah jayey kisko dhikhkayen jakhmey dil apna, jhakhmey dil apna. And the second rare tune was ' Merey dilbar mujhsey khafa na ho,'. The rendition of harmonium in this qawali was most outstanding in the film Dharamputa. The qawali was written by Sahir Ludhianvi.

N Dutta was such a Middle row Music director who gave invaluable songs with Sahir for most of his films.The reason was that he never tried to change the written poems of Sahir.Sahir insisted for that only..There are innumerable beautiful songs with other lyricists.It was very saddening that he was not continued with BR Banner..It it had been,the things would have surely better for him as Sahir was with BR till end...I still remember his last song..Aaj Socha hai khayaalon men bulakar tumko, pyar ke naam thodi si shikayat kar len...form film Chehre pe chehra... Hats off to N Dutta...for Sadhana,Dhool ka Phool and Dharmputra...
