Some contestants in the original UK version also used to throw in cheeky references to "I'll take the E." and "I'd like a J.". Not sure if dear old Bob Holness ever latched on to what they meant.

This is an okay show, but these episodes pale in comparison to Bob's shows. I wonder if this show would work again if they tried having another kids version.

I think the original Blockbusters was of its time. Taking the rose tinted specs of for a moment, I have to be honest and say that it was feeling a little beyond its prime in the later Bob Holness days. The Simon Mayo version was probably the best attempt at a revival that they could possibly have achieved, and it was enjoyable. But it's not well suited to adult contestants, so it would have been interesting to see if today's youth could have given it that extra lift.

97channel That could explain why the American one didn't last as long. It only lasted for about two years. The revival later in the decade was worse, having two individual contestants playing. That one was done after only four months.

The various versions of Blockbusters, both here and abroad, are interesting because of how they mostly weren't successful. Only the British version with Bob Holness had that certain spark. I'm undecided as to whether it was ultimately a mediocre format which was boosted by gaining the perfect host and very honed production decisions, or if it was a great format which suffered bad production elsewhere.

+97channel It was an interesting format, but the original American host, Bill Cullen, had already been around for a long time. Even though he asked the questions had a decent speed, it did seem a bit slow at times. Even though he would host a couple other shows after this, when it came to doing game shows, his best years were already behind him.
