It looks so much like a satellite or drone view due to the extensive attention to detail on your part as you've lovingly built every tiny part of your layout. Bravo sir. My hat is off to you.

Glad to see that you're still working on the layout, had been wondering how you've been with the madness happening lately. Been slowly working on my own layout, just waiting for the post to finally arrive so can add more to it! Hope that you all stay safe! ~James

Beautiful, a real work of art, well done, I particularly like the transition at 2.26 from old plywoork junk rough area to beautiful perfect scenic area! Thats the lovely thing about n guage, its got room to breathe in an area that would be a squeeze for 00.

Welcome back. Great video. I love ScaleScenes kits. They take time, but the results never disappoint, and they do get easier with practice. Stick with it!

Hi there nice to see you again. I started a rebuild on my modular N-Gauge layout I have only just finished the wiring. I am currently checking the track over and testing etc. I made a track cleaner with a small piece of hardboard with a handle, I put isop on the end and go round the track with it, its a bit tougher than using paper.

Hi Simon, I have a very cheap and cheerful cleaning wagon, which works fine, especially in places you can't get at Get an old wagon that you don't use, but still runs. If it's light weight, fill it with lead so it won't derail. Wrap a strip of kitchen towel around it, as many times as will fit, and sellotape it down. Drizzle IPA underneath, where it is in contact with the track, and then haul it round the layout. Every so often, move the strip of towel a couple of mm around the body of the wagon, so you've got a clean bit in contact, add some more IPA, and go again. When the towel is completely manky, replace it and go again Simples!

Great to see an update Simon. I find a cotton bud dipper in IPA is a great way to clean the track. Looking forward to seeing the bridge completed, I love a Scalescenes kit but they take bloody ages and so fiddly in n gauge lol. Cheers Geoff

John Still John Hi there John like you I have begun doing a rail layout but because of the area I will be doing it in N gauge as the room is only 11ft x7ft therefore the layout will be 2ft6 x 7ft x2ft6 and just 2ft wide

Thanks for sharing, awesome! Just one suggestion if I may... It's better to keep the alcohol bottle capped as much as possible, it tends to attract water from the atmosphere and with time the soluble water content may rise. Cheers!

Glad your back in the shed - bet it's a bit warm. Anyway build that bridge and get over it! Would it be easier to make a jig to allow you to stick the squares to the uprights as a component then stick them on the sides? think corner of a matchbox. Once the uprights are attached they might be easier to handle to mark with a pen too.

Try using standard window cleaner with vineger. I use the the Co-op own brand with a cloth, works a treat at track cleaning. The vinegar being acidic lifts the dirt.

Welcome back! Good grief that plate girder bridge looks like it would test the patience of a saint! Looking at your iron girder bridge could you not scratch build the footbridge? I'm sure you could make it less complicated than the scalescenes one!! You can use hardboard to clean track, the rough side. I've seen home made cleaners using it, a couple of bolts and an old wagon; I'm sure if you Google it you'll find examples. Stay safe, Andrew
@SimonsShed4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew, its good to be back. I'll probably persevere with the Scalescenecs kit now I've got this far but we'll see! I'll have a search for some ideas on the cleaner.

I use a painters rubbing pad instead of a track rubber does not leave any bits behind and is very fine surface non scratching.

Hi Simon, my N gauge layout will be excess of 30' in length and some of the train/track runs will not be far off and I am worried about track noise. Having spoken to exhibitors on exhibition layouts they say they lay there track directly onto the plywood board, stating that the noise after ballasting remains the same even if you put foam or cork under the track. Now that is alright at exhibitions but my layout is going up in the loft. So I am at a loss as whether to lay straight onto the plywood board or use 2mm cork or Woodland Scenics Track-Bed. Can you offer any advice please as I get so much conflicting advise on the internet and wonder what your thoughts on it are. Regards Chris
@SimonsShed4 жыл бұрын
For what its worth I would say put foam underneath, it will deaden the noise a bit. I've used 3mm grey foam underlay from B&Q on both of my layouts. Its not 'in the textbook' but its worked well for me and hasn't degraded etc over the years.

Wonder what a good dcc controller make would be for starting N gauge , does the horny one work ok ? Or are there similar priced other males ?
@SimonsShed4 жыл бұрын
I used the basic Hornby DCC controller for a while and it worked fine, reliable etc. Upgraded to the z21 eventually.

Hi Simon, How are you doing with the Z21 control system?
@SimonsShed4 жыл бұрын
Yes still going strong, really like using it. I noticed they updated the app since last time I used it, looks like they've tried to improve the layout control bit where you activate your points from etc. I really need to lay out my controls in there properly and get it organised but I might try and finish the footbridge first!

I've spent most of my leisure time lately playing SimSig, so it's just baffling to see that Class 24 going through the small station on the right-hand path. Would've thought the interlocking would only let you clear the signal for the left-hand path ;)

08:45 actually - can you move the counterclockwise home signal so it's in rear of the points…?
@SimonsShed4 жыл бұрын
😃Yes the signalling is a temporary thing at the moment, had a minor disaster trying to get them DCC operated so need to start again basically!
@RoamingAdhocrat4 жыл бұрын
@@SimonsShed Would it be worth thinking of… not using DCC? I never understood the rationale to have anything other than a train's motor, lights and onboard sound operated by DCC. The MERG CBUS system - or ever just board-edge control panels…?

Do not use what you are using to clean your track. Use crc or wd40 or inox and just spray abit on a rag and run it around.kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6OVfWuEiN2CpLM
