Although there were no roadnames for me this run, Atlas has consistently improved their quality in locomotives in recent years!!

Atlas has always been a staple in my modeling - not always the most detailed - but good models, reliable mechanism, and now with V5 sound - worth the price.

Absolutely amazing work you do! I actually have the same exact locomotive in HO SCALE but you have inspired me to move into N SCALE due to space limitations and actually want to have continuous running in a small space. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

N scale is perfect for conquering space limitations. Manufacturers have a come a long way in improving model quality and offerings - especially with sound. You're not going to be disappointed.

Great review. It’s a nice model. I bought the NYSW version and was pleasantly surprised to find it also has rear ditch lights (I knew about the front ditch lights). Mine ran smooth right out of the box. Hopefully there will be more 4 axle locos in N scale. It seems 6 axle is the trend lately.

i'm guilty of loving the big 6-axle diesels - but these little 4-axles still have their place and honestly, watching a string of them lashed up pulling a train is pretty cool so hopefully the other manufacturers catch on. Would love to see ScaleTrains take on a GP38 or some other smaller switcher for N scale. The operating ditch lights front and back is a winner for me - especially because i like seeing them run long hood forward.

i love how accurate they can get the sounds now - it's not generic anymore they have these real recordings and it's pretty awesome.

Thanks fot the video review! I have been on the fence with these but I am happy to see the ditch lights are nice and brights. Wasn't it the GP40-2Ws that had anemic ditch lights?

You know, i knew the old one was a 38, i had a momentary lapse in comparing them. should have been a clue when they had a little different configuration but....

Hi C Mastracci , a nice review there on the Atlas GP 40 . I’m waiting on my Atlas GP 38-2s. Last night I got my weekly news letter from Scale Trains and they have addressed the issue with the SD 40-2s. There is an issue with the fuel tanks. Screw is not all the way in. They posted a how to fix the problem. I didn’t know if saw this or not. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 😎😎 👍

The Atlas N GP38-2 Ph2s are on the way! They won’t have ditch lights which is a bummer though…they were designed in 2019 and postponed.

I saw ScaleTrains' email about them but now the proud owner of 4 of them - i don't have any issues with them running the layout. two of them i messed with the CVs for smoother operation and notice little difference but in general, all four are operating acceptably well. I actually had a jerkier start with this Atlas version but it calmed down too with some running. There's another MOW road number in this run and might get it to pair up with my others. That'll let me assign 2 to MOW work and then throw a random MOW loco into a standard consist for some fun.

I purchased the Atlas N Scale GP-9TT Locomotive, Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo #403, Maroon/Cream version and very disappointed how slow it was compared to similar DCC ready Kato engines running on adjacent tracks
@AlleghenyNorthernАй бұрын
It has a slow-speed scale motor in it and is set on the ESU decoder to run at prototypical speeds. if you want to run it at 'train-set' speed, you can adjust the speed variables CV 2, 5, 6 to your liking.
