I've been in and out of model railroading for years at almost eighty years old. I would think an N scale cleaning car would have to have a whole lot of weight added to it to work. Bottom line anybody that can make N scale run consistently has my respect. Good stuff thanks for posting Happy New Year

Mike looks like you are right, the pads we add to HO don't need springs, so I can't see why they put them in a N scale car, looks to me you are so right too much ....thanks for sharing...👍👍👍👍👍😃

I wanted one of those in the worst way about 20 years ago, but couldn't find anything. So I took a Santa Fe Roundhouse 57' mechanical reefer, to which I added two pieces of pink eraser to the bottoms of the fuel tank. And I added extra weight. Used to push that around the layout with a couple of GP35's.

Really nice review Mike. I think you are 100% right on the fix as well. I think they just took a good idea for HO and it doesn’t scale down to N.

Interesting... I clean my track with crc electrical contact cleaner. Wonder if spraying the pad with a little crc would make any difference... I'm assuming at some point you'd want to change or clean the pad. Great review, Mike !

I had a similar problem, it seems the locomotive was pulling the car with the wheels barely touching the rails....like to was dragging the car only supported by the pad. I'm going to try it without the springs and see how it goes.

NOOOOOO! STOP trying fix something that is not broken, Mike! The car is designed to "float" on its bolsters so the pad stays FLAT on the rails. Get over your fussy feelings of wanting to make it 'act normal'. You had no real NEED to modify the darn thing. You MIGHT see an improvement [to your way of thinking] by making a very small adjustment to the spring tension by lightening the force, but I have been running my cleaning car for several months without ANY issues and NO adjustments regarding how it came out of the box. Hope this is your best year ever buddy and your followers DOUBLE in size! 🌞🤗🌞

You are totally wrong. The car did and does need to be modified to even run correctly. Mike

Mike you are way too sensitive lately!! This is a good review but lately whenever some followers do not shower the video with glowing accolades or mention remarks contrary to your post and meant to add some info you take offense by “inviting them not to watch” etc. my goodness Mike this is the internet no need to be so thin skinned.we subscribed to your channel because we enjoy what you put out and gather a lot of knowledge from your efforts. I for one have enjoyed many benefits and garnered a lot of knowledge from your channel and I am sure that applies to a lot of your subscribers. To disagree with a posting of yours is not the same as an attack on you at a personal level. Harleymike/Chicago

What my question has been is "if you do not like the content and post a thumbs down, Why did you and do you watch the video? " NOT what people are commenting on. I am merely saying " If it really hurts to hit you thumb with a hammer, Why would you purposely do it??" That is not an expression of thin skin but more a question of some peoples process to reason. I do not need negative people to watch my videos as it is not my living, it is simply sharing. PS, you have no idea what my life is or has been so please do not pretend to know me that well and I promise not to question your integrity or well being. That is not why I am here.

Hi Mike. I don't think you mentioned two things; (1) Does Bachmann recommend adding weight(s) to the car/ If so, how much did they recommend? (2) Does Bachmann recommend the use of a cleaning fluid for the pad?

Very interesting. I have one very similar but its an 40 foot refeer made by Model power. Is it possible to switch the shell for one from your Atlas 50 foot boxcars so you can have a paintscheme thats not available from Bachmann ? Looking at the construction of the underside of the car, the tabs holding the shell looks very much alike the one Atlas uses. I would like to do that. Thanks for another great video ,
